    Great in almost every way except the bezel! Better looking than the Speedmaster Racing Chrono 40mm. I only wish Omega had kept the standard bezel design.

    I really like this, it corrects a lot of issues that I have with the standard moonwatch, it has a glossy dial with metallic hands and indices instead of the matte grey dial and plastic hands of the bigger brother. I just bought a Bulgari Aluminum Chronograph but if I knew this model existed I may have bought it instead.

    Fantastic video, Max! I feel like you really upped your game with the cinematography and editing on this one, and the music choices were great as well. Really looking forward to seeing what you have in store for 2021!
    One super nitpicky suggestion I've been thinking about for a while that I think could possibly make your videos feel even more professional-don't be afraid to try letting the music from one section bleed a little more into the next section before fading it out completely. In particular, I think your title intro (at 24 seconds) could benefit from less of an abrupt music transition.
    Just something to consider; keep up the awesome work!

    Outstanding production, great looking watch. I also have slimmer wrists and went with the MK40 (not the Ben Clymer, the classic one)
    What I miss on this 38mm Co-axial is the classic Speedmaster Pro look with the white markers and hands. Would have been cool if Omega made a version in the classic Speedy look.

    I got this watch. Its a great watch. I also have a no-date Sub, and I can't tell you how many times i have to dig my phone out to get the date when I have to sign off on forms. (At that point I already see the time on the phone too, so the watch becomes totally ornamental. Not necessarily a bad thing. I also dislike the Rolex Cyclops.). For work, its a better watch. The date function is done so well - so unobtrusive but legible when you need it, unlike other date windows. Small enough to be a dressy watch, along with the shiny applied indices. However enough classic Speedmaster DNA to wear causally with jeans. Water resistant to 100m is another plus. (unlike 50m for even the recently updated Speedmaster professional) The bracelet is like a Presidential style bracelet - all the comfort but without the jangling. It's a true "go anywhere, do anything" watch.

    I have one of these and I love it! I don't think of it as a small speedy, though - rather, for me it's more like a beefy datejust, or an aqua terra with a chronograph complication. This watch should be addressed on it's own terms, not as a comparison to a speedy pro. As a mid-sized, sporty AND dressy chrono, it's awesome!

      @@WatchCrunchOfficial Sure, I'm not faulting you for making the comparison (I mean, Omega calls the watch a "Speedmaster" after all, and the design features are quite similar). My point is that I've heard this watch criticized for NOT being enough like the Speedy Pro (or even the reduced), which I understand (and agree with). If however, one views this watch out of the Speedy context, it becomes a really attractive piece. To sum up: This watch is VERY far removed from the Speedmaster Pro. If someone wants a speedy pro - just get the pro. This watch is awesome for someone looking for something a bit more sporty than a rolex datejust, but a bit more dressy than an rolex explorer. Great video! As a person with a smaller wrist size it's difficult to find a luxury watch that feels good to me. For some reason luxury brands (Omega, Rolex, Patek, etc) have decided to ditch the 38-40 case range on most of their models. Which is the sweet spot for me. I used to love the Speedmaster Racing 40mm on how it looked on my wrist, but never got a chance to buy it and now it's discontinued. May I ask for your wrist size? No. I ended up getting a Seamaster Aqua Terra 38 mm (the model with horizontal deck floor pattern). Unfortunately the lack of screw down crowns despite a 100m water resistance rating was a turn down for me. I usually like to take my watches to steam rooms, pools and hot tubs. I have a Seamaster (the bond version) in 36.25 mm that has screw down crowns and has never failed me through 8+ years, so I didn't feel like risking it with the Speedmaster. I feel the Aqua Terra looks great on my 6 inch wrist, and the Speedmaster is pretty much identical dimension wise. So I wouldn't worry for it looking too big on your wrist either. Maybe I will be getting it as my next watch as I really like the looks, its midsize and automatic unlike the Moonwatch.

    Hi Max and Happy New Year, I think this 38mm Co-axial is a nice looking watch but it doesn't really grab me like the reduced Speedy but to be fair I think a lot is down to the almost uniform bezel tachymeter markings, I much prefer the bunched up markings becoming more spaced out on the traditional Speedy bezel. Great movement though and you're description of the Co-axial movement was the best I've seen, I've still no idea how it works but it looked excellent. Oh and I have a 2nd watch, it's a Submariner...a Seiko Submariner, the SKX033. I love the watch. I’ve always liked 40mm or less, so this suits me fine. The only problem I have is the lug width. At 18mm it’s just too narrow. The bracelet looks out of proportion to the watch. While it isn’t a big diameter, it is a thick watch, which I like, but the narrow bracelet just doesn’t look right. 20mm would have been perfect. I have a padded leather and a sailcloth strap and they both look too narrow for the heft of the watch. NATO straps are better, probably because they don’t taper, but I’m not crazy about them. So if you’re a big ham fisted he man you’d best look elsewhere.

    I think the 38mm Speedy cheapens the line if I'm being honest... I think it looks like a fashion watch, ok, maybe a Bulova. But really, it could have Michael Kors on the dial and it would look at place.
    If you want a smaller Speedmaster for slim wrist (I'm in that camp), go buy a FOIS. I've owned multiple Pros and finally bought a FOIS before the holidays and couldn't be happier. The symmetrical case, straight lugs, and smaller pushers really does help it wear smaller. It's the perfect Speedy, IMO.

    • @WatchCrunchOfficial
      @WatchCrunchOfficial  3 года назад

      Yeah, I didn't quite connect with this one. My issue with the speedy pro is the bracelet endlink that makes the watch wear big. They seem to have fixed it on the new one. The FOIS comes on a strap if I remember correctly

    Hey you made me want to buy this watch but i have a question before i pull the trigger, since i dont need a date wheel is the automatic reduced (non coaxial) 39mm slimmer or as thick as this? I find this watch sitting a little bit high. Thank you !

    Thanks for this brilliant video, Max!
    In terms of value retention, would you recommend the 38 or the Reduced (updated saphir version)?
    Provided both cost roughly the same used at the moment

      @WatchCrunchOfficial  3 года назад

      I would think that the price of the reduced is pretty steady at this point compared to the 38 which is newer.

    I tried one at an AD and loved this watch! Perfect for my 6 inch wrist. But do I save money and go for the reduced? If I I buy this new, I could spend a lil more and get an explorer. A watch I’ve wanted for years

    Hi Max, great video. I am planning to get at 38 however, it seems dated (2017 last update). Was wondering what are your thoughts? Should I wait for an updated speedy38 in hopes they'll include METAS like what they did on the new moonwatch (2021). Was hoping to hear your views as I am in a dillema. TQ

    good comparison, but with the new Speedmaster Professional where they brought back the female end links, I think the 42mm size shouldn't be as much of a problem for slim wrists. The most important aspect of a watch for slim wrists is the lug to lug measurement.

      Yep, I am really looking forward to checking out the new bracelet on the new speedy, the endlink and the taper should both help with comfort. Omega listened

    Hi Max, thanks for this great video. The only thing I don't like is the clasp because there is no way to micro adjust them like you can do with the extra indents in a typical fold-over clasp. That is a problem IMHO, I love the watch otherwise.

      Also a SEA guy.
      Unintentionally, my one (nice) watch thing has turned into a small collection, and I noticed last year that somehow I’d ended up with a 42 mm, a 41 mm, a 40 mm, and a 39 mm. So, I started looking around a bit for a 38 mm.
      Currently:
      42mm, Rolex Sky-Dweller
      41mm, Tudor BB GMT
      40mm, Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000
      39mm, Grand Seiko SBGA083

    I love that Omega are making this in 38 mm. But I do wish they kept the slimness of the lugs, and the bezel of the Reduced. The date window of the new one is 😕. I want to rock a Speedmaster on my smallish wrist but this one doesn't quite hit the mark for me

      I wish both watches were thinner. 15cm is too much in my book. That's why I prefer the reduced for smaller wrists. But it's old tech compared to these Co-axials.
