Adore Shawn of the Dead, but really consider this to be the best of the Cornetto Trilogy. Love the way scenes are cut - and the cameo actors who appear - "All for the greater good"
Great review as always D&SW :)

Totally Agree. They are all good movies but I think this is the best for me.

I remember when I first saw this film when I turned 18 in 2007, and it was one of the funniest films I had ever seen. It’s kind of like a mixture between the wicker man and a cop drama comedy.

I know best movie is debatable but Hot Fuzz is best ride ever made hands down.

This movie was based on the horror classic "The Wicker Man" - where a lone police officer visits a remote Scottish island, Summer Isle, and finds out that the entire town, led by Lord Summer (Christopher Lee), is actually a Pagan cult that does human sacrifices by burning them inside "The Wicker Man"
It doesn't end well for the police officer (who is a devout christian [Angel?]) "Oh God! NO!" ... as he's being burned alive at the end of the movie.
The exact same actor, Edward Woodward, says the same thing at the end of this film when he triggers the sea mine.
Woodward would later get his own brilliant TV show - "The Equalizer" - about a highly skilled vigilante in New York City that helps people when traditional "justice" has failed them!
Nicholas Angel would have put "The Equalizer" on repeat! - as he sees in himself an "angel" of true justice like Woodward was in most of his shows + Wicker Man (!)
"The Equalizer" would later become a modern vigilante movie starring Denzel Washington (it's really good! - well worth a watch!)
But as we approach Halloween - if you're wanting a horror movie to react to, I thoroughly recommend the ORIGINAL "Wicker Man" [it must be the original though, NOT the terrible Nicholas Cage remake!]
... if for no other reason than you'll have a blast pointing out things you recognise from Hot Fuzz!

this movie is a part of a trilogy
(you can watch them in any order)
    the other 2 movies are:
    - shaun of the dead
    - the world's end
(it would be awesome if you could react to them!)

You seemed to miss some jokes, but then they do come fast and furious. Credit to your sister for instantly working out the notebook / ketchup. She's the only reactor I've seen get that plot point so quickly. And you recognised Cate Blanchett just from her eyes, that is impressive too. Not the only LOTR/Hobbit link, the stabbing Santa was a cameo by LOTR director Peter Jackson. And I'm sure you saw Martin Freeman (Bilbo). Other faces you may recognise - the priest previously played the bad guy Belloc in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Edward Woodward who played the NWA camera guy was in the original (1973) Wicker Man and his final line "Oh God,no..." is a callback to his final line in the Wicker Man. This really is a film that you can watch again and again to pick up on the subtle little touches that Edgar Wright puts into his films. Eg. opening scene, check out the facial expression on Angel as he walks up to camera that matches the picture in his ID card. Check out the music playing in Skinners car as he drives past the two "accidents" Dire Straights - Romeo & Juliet, Arthur Brown - Fire. So many callbacks from earlier in the film pay off in the last 20 minutes eg who has guns "Farmers" "Farmers Mum's", "check out his arse" / "check out his horse", "Fascist" "Hag" to name just a few....

The Florist: Anne Reid was "Ken Barlow's" first wife in Coronation Street in the very early 1960's. Tim Dalton: James Bond, as you know.. Bill Nighy,Steve Coogan...

Fire is by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Arthur Brown wrote it, but his band's name was The Crazy World of Arthur Brown.

Don't forget "big cop in a small town", and "have you ever fired two guns while jumping through the air". Lol
Or how Michael is The Hound from GOT, and the little old lady who runs the hotel is a villain from The Omen. Man the references and cast are so densely packed.
Even just like, the weapons. The schoolteacher has what look like either 2 Makarovs or 2 Walthers, so either compact members of any Soviet baddie's arsenal or classic James Bond's preferred sidearms. AND, the bit about Mr. Treacher wearing a big coat to hide a weapon, only for him to actually have one and for it to be a model 1887 shotgun, like Arnie's from Terminator 2. 😂

Well done on spotting Cate Blanchett (I thought it was _Julia Davis_ )
You youngsters, though, didn't recognise _James Bond_ in there as well.
Wonderfully characterising _Skinner_ - _Timothy Dalton_

Cate Blanchett was a subtle f-you to the studio. They wanted Wright to cast some "bigger names" (bizarre, really given that the cast is stellar), so they added Blanchett but put her in a costume that made her almost unrecognisable.

A cool detail always missed…the swear jar. All the rude words are censored except the worst one, c*nt. Us cheeky Brits!
Also, EVERYTHING is a callback or foreshadowing.

Great reaction and insights. You guys caught tons of stuff I didn't get in my first watch. This is one of my all time fav comedy movies. You guys should watch the next one in the Cornetto trilogy, The World's End. It's like an informal unofficial trilogy, the movies are only loosely connected, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost play different characters in each.

Shaun is a big letdown of a movie imo. The zombie fad of the late 2000s is the only reason people remember it fondly. Fuzz is x10 better.

I'm 5 mins into your video and all you've done is smile or laughed. This kind of reaction isn't good enough anymore. Please learn how to pause (the movie) and edit, so we can hear your thoughts on what's happening. No monologue is needed, just why something was funny, stupid, boring or just theories about what's about to happen.

I'm confused why you're angry at them for reacting to a movie. They're actually being genuine compared with other reactors and pausing it constantly would ruin the movie.
