*This movie is practically a PSA for if anyone has friends who might be suicidal on what to look out for* It can be a fairly common thing, when someone decides to take their life, to experience giddiness and want to re-live the glory days with their friends or family one last time. They know they wont living much longer- so they go all out. Realising that Gary was wearing the bandages on his wrists because he'd already attempted, and that was why he didn't want to show his arms and could quote the lines he'd been fed in therapy was such a sucker punch to the heart. When you rewatch the film you realise the room he is in is not his own, it's a hospital/facility where he must have been admitted after that attempt. Only Edgar Wright would make a crazy, hilarious movie about aliens taking over the world have so many layers and serious undertones that only make the film better with each rewatch. Truly my favourite director.
"when someone decides to take their life, to experience giddiness and want to re-live the glory days with their friends or family one last time."
One of my best friends took his own life last year, we hadn't talked much since school but we became very close again in the last few months, he often talked about seeing our old group again, getting our sort of band back together etc. I didn't realise this was a common sign, and it was obviously a horrific surprise to me when, just days before I was going to see him again, I was told the news. I wish I had known this then, hopefully your comment will reach at least one person who needs to know this.
SHOTS!
I never noticed the room detail! Man, something new every time it's incredible.
While watching the film I kept thinking of my lifeline, my best friend, listing a lot of stuff I wanna do with them.
The World's End is like the inner voice in me, the hidden want, but I'm too reserved and selfless to go out my way and do things like that. That's why I'm cringing, but a good kind of cringe, whenever Gary goes out his way and the others is just so done with him but they also can't resist going with his flow. It's such a weird feeling of familiarity.
I'm the type that would put dates on every letter and gifts, I would keep the candy/chocolate wrappers, the sea shells, the cinema tickets, I would screenshot the notification with their messages and upload it to google photos, I bought chess so we can try and learn it, roller skates, rubiks cubes, I'm always pushing to do something we want, there's so much more I hope to do that we can look back on, riding bikes, anime/movie marathons for a whole week, make a manga of us, go to concerts, travel and live together in one apartment with cats & dogs- I'm cringing on the inside because I see a reflection on Gary and I see how his friends are reacting, I understand how they feel. The awkwardness of "for good time's sake" and having a single person take the lead.
This movie has more emotional impact to me but I love all the Cornetto Trilogy. I'm currently away with my lifeline, after I sorted out my life here I want to binge the 3 movies again with them. I feel bad for not telling them about this masterpiece but I'm holding onto it that it can wait.
It's truly beautiful. Gary King is one of my favourite character of all time. And Simon Pegg too.
@@jelalejanaabubakar7860I hope you are doing well to this day. Keep on keeping on my friend. I love you.
Another fun fact of the Cornetto trilogy is in 1. Shaun of the Dead the cornetto colour is Red for all the blood and gore because Zombies
2. Hot Fuzz the cornetto is Blue simply because of the police theme
And lastly
3. At Worlds End the cornett is coloured Green because of Alien/Si-fi theme
There is a brown chocolate flavoured cornetto too, so the door is open for Edgar if he wanted to make another movie
Oh that’s true!!! Not sure what brow would stand for but…
Zombies, Police, Aliens.
Kieślowski's Three Colours, eat your heart out.
Fun fact:In an interview which came out last year(or in 2020), Simon Pegg said that of all the characters he played, Gary King is his favorite
That makes perfect sense. Gary King is a fascinating character that allows him to show his range as an actor better than any other role I've seen him play. Simon Pegg's portrayal of Gary is part of what makes World's End my favorite movie in the Cornetto Trilogy ♥
I love that every pub name is pertinent to what happens there.
The First Post is where they begin
The Old Familiar looks exactly the same as the first, and is thus familiar
The Famous Cock is Gary, being recognised by the barman
The Cross Hands is a reference to the robots signature attack with their hands
The Good Companions sees the guys decide to work together to carry on the pub crawl
The Trusty Servant is the Reverend Green, working for the robots
The Two-Headed Dog is a rather brutal way of describing the twins
The Mermaid is where the guys are seduced by the siren-like marmalade sandwich
The Beehive reveals the robots ultimate plan to assimilate humanity into its collective
The King's Head is where Gary finally loses it and confesses that the pub crawl is all he's got left
The Hole in the Wall now literally has a hole in the wall after the car smashes into it
And the World's End is, well, obvious.
Lmao!!! Edgar wright is a mad genius
Don't forget The Rising Sun
The beehive could also mean that the whole town is a hive for the blanks
I would say The Beehive is them fighting all over the place like a swarm of bees
I love this one, really underrated. Also, Simon Pegg's outfit in this is fantastic.
For sure!!!
The 'closure' actually meant Gary would kill himself after reached The World's End. That was his plan. Doing the Golden Mile was the best thing that has ever happened to him, so he wanted to relive that experience one last time.
This movie was kinda dark, because they're dealing with mental health issue. Gary was clearly depressed and suicidal.
Actually they never completed it so that's why he was so fixated on doing it... One final success in a life he saw as a failure...
@@daveofyorkshire301 He said for 'closure' and refused to show his bare arms.
Come on.
I would say it’s more hinted at but it’s fs one of the more plausible dan theories
This is my favorite of The Cornetto Trilogy films. Edgar Wright is always incredible, but the amount of detail that went into almost every scene of this movie is insane. So many callbacks and other references.
There is kind of a Cornetto prequel with the gang in it the tv series "Spaced" which is what they did before these movies and it is just as good as the trilogy imo...
Hmm ok. I’ve hearing about so we may check it out!
Love spaced. Especially if you like so called “nerdy” things, it references so much.
You beat me to it, would also recommend this one.
As long as you realise it’s nothing to do with space, aliens, zombies or fight scenes! Very British, character driven and, of course, with Edgar Wright’s unique touch. I loved it.
There was an episode (S1 E3) that kicked off the idea that became Shaun of the Dead.
my personal fave of the trilogy, Gary is so flawed and emotionally raw. Fun Fact: in Into the spiderverse, you can see a billboard in the background of one of the shots for a fake sequel to shaun of the dead called "From Dusk till Shaun"!!
Aw man, now I wish that was a real movie.
I remember reading that either Edgar or Simon were thinking about doing a sequel to Shaun of the dead and that was one of the names they mentioned.
The surprise twists with first the alien robots and then in pub 12 that massive emotional gut punch makes this my absolute favourite of the three, and I'm so happy to see it get some well deserved love frm this channel! Stoked to see Spaced recommended as a type of prequel series to these films, yet I think esp since the fighting choreography is so appreciated we'd have to give a shoutout to Brad Allan. But yeah absolutely loved seeing this video pop up, kinda want to have a movie rewatch myself rn...
Thanks Daphne!! Honestly love watching these movies myself!!
Andy has to be one of the best characters ever created.
Sidenote, I hadn't really took notice of it before but Martin Freeman has also been in every movie of the corneto trilogy and his roles slowly became bigger. Starting as a small cameo in Shaun of the dead, to being a policeman officer in Hot fuzz and finally one of the main characters in this kne
If you're interested in "end of the world" type films, and if you haven't seen it, check out "This Is The End," which is pretty amazing.
And hot fuzz!
I have so enjoyed all of your Edgar Wright reactions!! He's my favorite director, too - his style, timing, and tight screenwriting make his stuff truly special
OMG, I love the punk analogy especially works with the alt music soundtrack. Especially using the opening lines to Loaded by Primal Scream to describe Gary at the start. It's sampled from the 1966 film Wild Angels about a rebel biker gang. Fun fact, I guess.
“Well we wanna be free, we wanna be free to do what we wanna do. We wanna be free to ride. We wanna be free to ride our machines without being hassled by the man.
“And we wanna get loaded. And we wanna have a good time. And that’s what we’re gonna do.”
Yeah it’s genius
Plus it's called back in the end
Yeah, I love the soundtrack! one of my favorite ones of all time!
This movie gave me a bunch of new songs I’d never heard before and now I listen to them more often than the songs from my childhood.
There is a TV show, kind of. It's called Spaced. The woman he runs into with the similar group of survivors in Shaun of the Dead is Simon's co-star from that show.
I think you guys would get a huge kick out of a movie called "Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel".
I haven't seen that film in years, omg I used to sing total eclipse of the heart everytime I went to the bathroom to try and time travel 😂
The is truly my favorite of the 3. Gary's character is the absolute best in so many ways. Comedy, the end of the world, & hard painful truths ✨✨ chef's kiss.
Gotta be a reaction to ‘Snatch’ now, don’t let anyone tell you it should be Lock Stock first, they are wrong 😂
Love your reactions to these movies! Sad it's ended, but watch "Paul" not the mastermind director/writer but same actors....
Omg yes. Yes.
Yes watch Paul!!! Great movie!!!
Paul was awful.
There are plenty of Simon Pegg stuff out there. I do want more Simon Pegg + Nick Frost material. Those two work sooooo well together, playing off each other like they were destined to do it from birth.
@@Mikimarux I wouldn't say it was awful but it's nowhere near the Cornetto trilogy. To me Paul is a 7/10, well worth a watch. I've never felt any interest in rewatching it though and probably never will but I'm glad I watched it nevertheless, esp. since Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are teaming up as buddies once again. Since Edgar Wright had nothing to do with Paul, being a Hollywood production and all, it was never going to be as good as the Cornetto's. Obviously this is just my personal subjective opinion.
Awesome final film in the Cornetto Trilogy, loved how this film was done. Pub crawl to end all pub crawls
Your expressions of glee at 41:50 when you realize what you're seeing are wonderful!
There is the theory Gary was going to commit suicide, and this was supposed to be his last night. He's in therapy in the beginning, and I think there's more, but I'd have to look it up.
Oh jeez that makes sense, but that’s super dark
That it is heavily hinted in the movie. Gary's bandages in his arms, and his opposition to show them, suggests he tried at least once recently.
By far my favourite of the 3. I think it might be my favourite movie ever.
23:52
Its so clever how he used her line to lead into a joke. By having the twins go between them to re-engage the conflict scene.
The most underrated film in the trilogy, gets better each time you watch it
I keep coming back to this movie specifically more than the rest, even Paul. There’s something just so comforting to me about this movie, especially whenever I’m feeling down or depressed, plus this feels like a movie for adults more than for kids. Like you understand it more and it hits you more the older you get. And I’m only 23, but this year has been a rough one for me to say the least lol. Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost tho is a combination that I could never get enough of honestly.
I agree, Hot Fuzz is the best of the 3 IMO, 2nd is Shaun of the Dead, and 3rd is The Worlds End.
I love your idea of a new trilogy with 3 sequels of the 3 movies. Time to start a petition and send it to Edgar Wright lol
If you haven't seen it I would suggest watching Paul!
Gary, king of the humans, is living his best Sisters of Mercy video life at the end of the movie. Having been a Sisters of Mercy fan in the 1990s, I enjoyed the use of "This Corrosion."
Really been looking forward to you watching this one. Enjoy!
I enjoy reading the reaction to this movie. Most people I know seem to regard this as the worst of the trilogy where-as online it seems to be regarded as the best. I don't know anyone who hates these movies though, so it's good to see the trilogy as a whole is the real winner :)
I adore this film so much, easily my favourite of the three. Great reaction guys!
Huzzah! My favorite of the three. I've always liked team-up fight films, and I sure like drinking, so bingo.
3:02 - Just a fun tidbit here in the UK.... if it's the height of summer around june time, it's often very light well into the evening. I mean we don't get 100% true night for a couple of weeks so the sky looks a funky navy rather than pitch black.
That could easily be 8 or 9 pm and still be that light. Not exactly dressed for it but fuck knows with our weather. lol
That’s super cool!!
This is a Great British drink session 12 hours plus start on a morning
Mr Shepard is not played by Sean Connery, but Pierce Brosnan, though he also played Bond. :P
And in the Hot Fuzz reaction video, he said that Timothy Dalton (Skinner) should have played Bond because he’d be perfect for the role! Clearly not a Bond aficionado 😂
Andy going though the door always gets me. So, hilarious :D
the best action comedy I've seen in the last 20 years!
For the TV version of the Cornetto Trilogy is Spaced! Which would be a PERFECT series to react to, since I don't think I've ever seen anyone react to it.
Many pubs have been standing for a lot longer than 30yrs here but there is a definite decline more recently. A pub in our village has been a pub for 165yrs
I totally love Edgar Wright! This one I particular - there are sooooo many visual gags. Every single time I watch it I see something new. This was a great reaction, BTW.
27:04 Now that guy should play James Bond for sure.
Lmao!! Yes!!! That’s gonna be a running joke with the fans at this point!!
Fun fact - some of these scenes were recorded 5 minutes away from where I live…maybe not that fun, but it’s cool for me
Lucky you!
I think the end when he says he's The King and charges forward with his gang it looks like a lotr return of the king reference the lights from his brobots and the way Gary charged forward with the sword looked like aragorn and the ghost army
Simon and Nick did work again recently with Edgar, they did voices on his The Sparks Brothers documentary.
Also Edgar does cameos in all 3 of the trilogy films.
Have you guys seen Willow? If not it is a must watch ! One of the best Fantasy films of the 80s. That, Clash of the Titans, The NeverEnding Story etc. can get overshadowed sometimes when huge franchises come out (this was around the time of Star Wars) but these are god tier fantasy films you should definitely react to when you get the chance!
If they made a fourth one it would be the cornetto quartet! Which sounds even better!
The Quartnetto movies
Loved all the reactions on the trilogy
This is my favorite of the trilogy. Its actually one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time.
I always love seeing what Ninetailedbrush is drinking, lol
Worth mentioning that just about all the character names have importance to the roles: Gary King, Andy Knightly, Stephen Prince, Oliver Chamberlain, and Peter Page are the Round Table. Guy Shepherd was their teacher and spokesman for the Network. Reverend Green was a dealer of drugs, then becomes another mouthpiece for the Network. Too bad Basil didn't get a last name.
- Gary King is back on the horse
- wow wow, you're back on the horse?
- no i mean back on the bike
- what's bike?
- what do you mean?
- what's bike slag for?
- bicycle
- i'm lost
- don't be
- ok
Fun fact: The first head in the toilet was not CGI but an animatronic. There's a clip on youtube showing how they made it. Pretty cool stuff.
You guys need to watch ‘Spaced’ it’s where all this started. It also happens to be just about the best sitcom ever made.
- Andy, wtf?
- yes Andy, wtf?
Underrated moment 😂😂😂
Simon Pegg reminds me of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow in this film.
Not entirely but there are slight mannerisms :)
As another movie that takes on aliens in human suits, I would recommend The Watch. With Ben Stiller. The director is one of the Lonely Island guys too. It doesn’t have the somber and serious undertone that this movie does but I think it’s great and doesn’t get the praise it deserves.
Ahhhhh ! I love this movie I can’t explain what it means to me one of the best comedies ever and one of my fave reaction channels
@18:30 - the fight choreography was done by Brad Allen's team, who worked with Edgar Wright on Scott Pilgrim Vs The World as well as Shang Chi and the Kingsman movies.
God, when you said this came out in 2013 I felt so old despite the fact that I'm not even 30 yet, lmao. I saw this movie twice in theaters because it was so damn good and another friend of mine wanted to see it after I went with family - it's absolutely the best ending to the trilogy because of how emotional it is without being any less funny. It was great to see you guys both watch the trilogy for the first time and revisit it, it's been fun as hell. :)
The King has returned to England in its time of need... and he is wielding Excalibur.
Can you all watch the movie ATTACK THE BLOCK ? Its highly underrated and has Nick Frost in it. GREAT ACTION FUN !
Also I feel like I should point out, that while Edgar Wright did a lot, it was differently his and Simon Pegg's thing, with the two of them writing the Trilogy that really helps elevate it, and while I still like there work after, between the Trilogy and Spaced (Along with Jessica Stevenson writing that of cause) you can tell it's the duo that really make the magic work and both need to want to work together in the same roles to make another Cornetto film if they where to make one
Did you guys just call Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery?
Sean Connery? You mean pierce Brosnan. Lmao I was like huh? Great Great reaction man yall looked like yall enjoyed this one!
Okay about to go on a crazy thesis rant because something y’all said in your commentary really clicked something with me.
“This is like the epic brother battle.” And it kind of is. This is the one time you had to kind of choose sides because their plans didn’t align. In Shaun of the Dead, yeah they had spats, but ultimately they were brothers and had each other’s backs until the end (even after.), in Hot fuzz they are paired not by choice. But end up becoming brothers that have a similar goal.
And in this, that’s the total opposite. It’s the first time we really see then at odds with each other to a point we have to say to ourselves who we are rooting for to win.
Andy just wants to go home and try to win his wife back, and live a normal happy life. While Gary is the polar opposite due to his own self destruction, and depression. And all he wants to do is get wasted. To the point of risking the worlds end pun intended.
And as viewers it puts us in a very interesting position. Because we love Simon Pegg and Nick frost, both as a team and individually. So when they are at such odds it puts you in a position that you just want them to hug and make up. And that moment in the robot lair is so great cause it’s finally them working as a team.
It always breaks my heart that Gary left Andy. But I think it was also a cheeky way of saying all things must come to an end. Gary saw that with his and Andy’s friendship, and how toxic it can be. And instead does it in a way where at least they aren’t in danger. As far as we know. And it was Edgar’s way of saying the cornetto trilogy must come to an end.
I probably sound insane. But it hit me much harder when watching this reaction.
Nope not insane at all!!! And I appreciate you taking the time to actually comment something so we’ll thought out and logical!! Hope you stick around for our other videos, cause I’d love to see ur take on other things
@@whitenoisereacts I’ve been binging through a lot of your guys stuff!
I love films so I tend to analyze quite a bit, and I really like your guys’ chemistry. Also the moment when Gary takes the first robots head off. The look of confusion was priceless. Cause that was my face as well. 🤣
I’ll definitely be sticking around.
Haven’t finished watching this yet, I will just wanted to comment real quick, but just wondering, did you mean Sean Connery as a comparison or literally meant it? Because that’s Pierce right there. I’m loving this video so far tho👍🏻
If you haven't already, you have to watch Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, the one Edgar Wright made between this and Hot Fuzz. Also Paul, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Both are very close to being a fourth part of the trilogy.
There is always Paul, which is Pegg and Frost without Wright. It is okay, but it does lack a certain sparkle. And Attack the Block, which is Joe Cornish directing and Nick Frost in the cast, along with John Boyega.
Edgar Wright is honestly a crazy good director. This movie takes one of the hugest 180s I’ve ever seen after spending so much time being serious and depressing with Gary , only to become absolutely ridiculous.
It might be the time in my life I saw these, but I also think of these three films as a journey through life:
Shaun is a young adult who is worried about making something of himself ("Hey! I've got plans for my life, I've got things i want to do!" ... "When?")
Nick Angel is a young man who has made a career, but worries that this has made him isolated and unable to make connections with people ("You don't know how to switch off!")
And Garry is having a mid-life crisis, wondering if he had wasted his life and wanting to recapture that time when things were simple and he was living his best life.
On a similar note, SPACED works as a brilliant prequel to all of these, as Tim is just setting out in life, and that show explorers all the problems young people face, and it was my introduction to these as a young un myself.
Pegg+Frost+Wright FTW! 😁
You guys should definitely watch the kinsman movies if you liked the action in this and haven't seen them
It's very clear that Gary was extremely unhappy and didn't have a reason to live.. no hope, no goals and no human relationships... He got stuck in the past and didn't grow as a person. The Golden Mile, picking up his old friends and reliving his past when he WAS happy, hoping to feel like that again. Ultimately it would lead nowhere and his grown up and matured friends would go back to their lives, families and lifestyles while he'd be there having to live with himself which was not pleasant for him. It's a very bittersweet first half of the movie with lots of jokes and funny situations while also seeing how Gary is teetering on the edge.
Lucky for him he had to mature quickly and find a purpose in life in the latter half. Nobody saw ANY of those events coming.. Another brilliant Edgar Wright plot. Shaun of the Dead will forever be my #1. I love the buddy cop comedy of Hot Fuzz but World's End is my #2 of the Cornetto trilogy simply because the characters, esp. Gary, is a lot more complex and different than in the other two movies. Perhaps World's End and Hot Fuzz share my #2, it's difficult to pick. I did feel that the main plot in Hot Fuzz could've been better. Everything else was ace. Simon Pegg was amazing as the badass in that one.
My fav of the 3. Then Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Love these movies so much. That twist that town has been taken over is just unforgettable.
And the way Edgar wrights cuts between scenes is amazing!
Have you ever seen Attack the Block? It's a very similar sense of humour, written and directed by Joe Cornish, who was one half of The Adam and Joe Show (the other half, Adam Buxton, played the journalist who got killed by the church cornice in Hot Fuzz), produced by Edgar Wright and Nick Frost and John Boyega star. It's the first film John Boyega was in too.
It's one of my favourite films and it blends humour, action and Sci-Fi perfectly and also has a pretty strong social commentary.
Dudes I recommend. Dead Mans Shoes 2004 a brilliant British movie starring paddy considine🔥🔥🔥
You should check the tv show spaced which stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and that show is directed by Edgar Wright. They made 14 episodes. Also the movie Paul starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost is really funny.
Love the reactions, but i can't wait for you guys to react to the movie Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel, great movie, great comedy, a lot of fun, hope you eventually watch it here, cheers! :D
For a 'prequel', 'tv series' to the cornetto trilogy, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Spaced!
seeing Rosemund Pike reminded me of her movie Gone Girl. It would be interesting to see you reacting to it if you haven't already.
The ending has always given me lord of the rings vibes, the return of the king. 🤩
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😉
This movie makes me envy the pub/drinking culture in Britain so much would have been great to grow up in a town like this
The other two are great films in their own right but The Worlds End is on another level
1:29
hey I just wrote a joke with your help
"Ladies, full length reactions will be...in my pants"
Watch Paul! As close to a part 4 as you'll ever get!
I recommend checking out some Studio Ghibli movies. If I had to recommend only one, it would be Grave of the Fireflies, as you'd only ever want to watch it once in your lifetime.
We have and we watched that one. Check out our anime channel
You may want to watch Searching For A Friend For The End Of The World (2012). A very interesting film about, well, the end of the world.
Paul is a Good Pegg /Frost movie. Don't forget that one.
Fun fact the train station, in the beginning, is my local station.
Btw, did you guys pick up on Simon Peggs character always having a scene in each movie where he jumped (or attempted to) over a fence? There are so many details in these movies that require several viewings to pick up on. The Sisters of Mercy music that is played a few times (the cover of the intro choir part for "This Corrosion"), remembering that Gary wore a Sisters of Mercy t-shirt as well as a tattoo. Edgar Wright is just so clever in so many ways when he's writing and making his movies.
....I came out in 2013?? Oh god I feel so old
In Europe and the UK, Disco and Discotheque are used to mean; dance, nightclub, club. It’s not related to the music genre.
You should take a look at the film SEVERANCE its a British Comedy Horror staring Danny Dyer.
You should really watch the TV Show Spaced. It had Pegg and Frost and is all directed by Wright. Fantastic!!
It's a shame Paul wasn't part of the trilogy then it would have been a quadrilogy of fun
30:20 The Fence Scene.😂
When will this reaction be available in full in patreon? There's only early access for it. And the movie lasts 1 hour 49 minutes, so this youtube video isn't the full reaction either.
Well there’s a full reaction on there as well…but it’ll be up next Thursday
@@whitenoisereacts oh, ok. I'll wait for that one then. Thought it might be up earlier or at the same time as RUclips's. Thanks!
If you love Edgar Wright you’d doubtless of heard of/watched SPACED? I’ll let you google it. One episode was the inspiration for ‘Shaun of the dead’. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are in it and it’d genius.
