Thanks for all the great fishing info, videos and demos..... you guys have one of the best fishing sites out there because anybody can say what works for fish but you show it working... you guys rock
@MrGloomis Flounder also like areas with lots of suspended debris swirling around in the current. If you have access to enter smaller channels or creeks, you will find them there as well. Also, try ares with stained water. Rocky areas are also good. Thanks for your inquiry!
@Starback123 Not sure when we will make it to Long Island, but we would like to get there - there's also some great fishing out of Long Island! Thanks for writing in and until next time,, good luck and good fishing.
Well, I had my last ice fishing outing just 3 days ago, but you already have me chomping at the bit to get out there this summer and catch some fluke! Thanks for sharing the great video.
We like to use at least a size 3/0 hook as this will accommodate your bait very nicely and still have a lot of hook gap (Viper Spoon size is SP4). Thanks for writing in and good luck on the water :)
@TheMorin1000 We will be at the Rhode Island Show next year. It is scheduled from March 9 - 11 at the RI convention center in Providence, and we are looking forward to attending and to "talk fishing" with the RI anglers! Thanks for taking time to write to us and until next time good luck and good fishing.
@ArsenalFan1714 Glad you are enjoying our videos and thank you for the kind words....it's people like you who make our efforts worth while :) Thank you and best of luck on the ater. PS - we would like to make our way out to North Carolina - we know there's some great fishing out there!
When it comes to color, the silver based lures will reflect best when fished on bright days or in clear water - where as the gold based lures will work best in dark or stained water, or on cloudy days....under these conditions, gold will out produce silver.
@Lleanlleawrg You are absolutely correct...the same tips apply for halibut as the do for Fluke. If you happen to get into some, be sure to send us a photo :)
@FishOnFishing GO to our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site and the feature video is how to rig an SP5. Then, on the search bar, you can do a search for SP2 and you will see a rigging video which will give you an idea on how to rig a sandworm or eel. Thanks for writing-in
@TheBasscomander Many thanks for the kind words and thanks for taking time to write to us and sharing! It make all our efforts worth while. Until next time, good luck and good fishing!
I once came within a few inches of stepping on either a humongous fluke or a small halibut at the beach, basically it went a few meters out and then a steep dropoff to about 30ft depth, and just on the edge of the dropoff as i was walking outwards, i was about to put my foot down and then a fairly large shape just shrugged out of the sand and took off. I know there are halibut in the area and it seemed too big for a fluke. I guess about 3ft across, 4-5ft long. Nice video as always by the way.
@Lleanlleawrg Thanks for sharing your story with us - sounds like a halibut - would be great to hook into one some day! Also, glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking time to write to us. Until next time, good lcuk and good fishing.
@DTFDownToFish Thank you for taking time to write to us and for your kind words...glad you are enjoying our videos and we have plans to post plenty more! Until next time, good luck and good fishing!
Glad you enjoyed the seminar and thanks for writing in. Suggest using straight fluorocarbon line, or, you can use braided line with a fluorocarbon leader. The braided line with the fluoro leader (of about 10 feet long) is great while drifting off a boat. All Fluoro is great for your casting from shore. If I had to chose one method, in your case, I would select the braided line with the fluoro leader. You'll love using the Thundermist Lures - they will work great for you!
Just hook the bunker through the top part of the fish, toward the end of the tail, so you only have enough "meat" to keep your bunker on the hook, but still have a lot of exposed hook gap for hook setting. So you hook should be about 2 or 3 inches away from the actual tail fin, and poke it through the top or that area (not in the middle)
12 - 15 lb test will work well for you and is a good choice. Mono is o.k. to use, but it has a few weaknesses like absorbing water and sunlight which will weaken your line - where as the fluorocarbon, will not react this way and is much more durable. We have some great tips for you on line on our Thundermist Fishing Tips web site. We like fluorocarbon. Also, braid is another option, but if so, you will definitely want to use a fluorocarbon leader. You are going to love salt water fishing!
@MrPokemonfan231 We may possibly travel to California in the future and if so, it is possible we may do some seminars. Thanks for tuning in and good luck on the water!
Great seminar, your advice will definatly help me on the water! I noticed that your briefly dicussed what types of line to use and this week i was hoping to purchase an Ocean Master 2000 Casting reel with an Inshore Extreme (Offshore Angler) rod as a combo(along with some thundermist lures). Both going off of boats for fluke, stripers and blues while also casting for stripers off of docks (if i decide to do this concept with the new reel)what type of line would you lead me towards. Thanks again!
@iphone3gsdivine We managed to make it to the Somerset show again thsi year and if all goes well, we'll be there again next year. If you go to the show, be sure to drop by our booth and say hello.
@acabtp So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for taking time to write to us! Hope your last ice fishing outing was a great one - we are also starting to get into "spring fishing mode" now. Until next time, good luck and good fishing.
I just stumbled across this video over the weekend. This is a very informative video! Thank you guys for posting this, it answered several questions I had about saltwater fishing. Thanks Ivo!
I like using the Cabelas Inshore "salt Striker" rod in medium or medium heavy action - it's great for both fresh and slat water and is somewhat economically priced :)
@Mahoney3210 Go with the leader line which you are most comfortable with, as there is no need to go heavier. When it comes to Fluke, a 20 lb leader line is plenty. 30 lb braid will be very thin and you can use the uni-knot to join the braid to your leader line. (we also have a video which gives a demo on how to tie a uni knot). The key is to be sure to use a leader line and fluorocarbon would be best. Thanks for writing in and until next time, good luck and good fishing!
Hello IVO - Great video - your a good speaker also - wish I would of known of your seminar because I would of liked to of been there to watch - listen - and meet you in person since I have always been a viewer of yours for a number of years - also have learned a lot from your tips to be a better fisherman - keep up the good work - keep your videos coming .
Well you have a great rod with the G-Loomis! As for the salt striker rod, I do really like it as well, I also like the XPS Extreme fishing rod with Bass Pro Shops. Both of there rods have done me well. Good luck on the water :)
thanks and does it matter what color, because i noticed that at my local bait store (fin-attics in ocean city nj) they have many colors such as black, silver, and even gold and some greens/blues/pinks
@thundermistlures Aye, I think it was a halibut. I know a place not far from where I live (southern coast of Norway) called 'Torungen' near the town of Arendal, where people frequently seem to catch halibut. I should go there some time. I assume the same tips apply to them as to fluke? Thanks, and right back at you.
Think I will go with flurocarbon and use it as leaders. You've talked about'em a lot and seem to be a good kind, so I will give it a shot. Thank you so much...later!!
Oh yeah I go to your site a lot to. Will be buying more gear to on there. Excited about using the T-Turn Swivel out on the water...mainly the ocean . And using the Python Darter out there to.
So you would recommend 12-17lbs flurocarbon fishing line as your "go to" for fishing and for fluke flounder as well? I have monofilament on right now but it only cost me $2.50 so if I get rid of it I won't really be losing anything, maybe donate it to someone who wonts to fish but can't afford gear that much. But anyways you would recommend flurocarbon huh? I really like 12-15lbs test line.
Are you talking about the fishing line or the pound strength? I'm using Trilene Big Game 12lbs monofilament test line. And I'm talkin' about catchin' Redfish, Snook, Fluke Flounder, Trout, & any other shoreline saltwater fish. I get on a boat sometimes but not far out though. The line I have on now has caught some good fish but freshwater though. But I wanna go saltwater though a little more now. My goal is a Redfish! Thank you for your response and have a good day and the team there as well.
Sorry for being worrisome, not sure if you already have a video showing this already. But do you run the braid to the T-Turn and leader line for viper spoon and sinker. Or do you tie leader line to braid then T-Turn and so on?
Thanks for all the great fishing info, videos and demos..... you guys have one of the best fishing sites out there because anybody can say what works for fish but you show it working... you guys rock
... any time and good luck out there - hope you enjoy the rest of your summer!
This man is dropping some serious knowledge, and I am so glad I stumbled across this site! ThankYou!
@FishOnFishing You are very welcome as we are always happy to help! Until next time, good luck and good fishing.
@MrGloomis Flounder also like areas with lots of suspended debris swirling around in the current. If you have access to enter smaller channels or creeks, you will find them there as well. Also, try ares with stained water. Rocky areas are also good. Thanks for your inquiry!
@robthesamplist We are so happy that you liked the video and the information - hope you have a great year on the water!
@00invert00tapper So glad to hear you may get a line wet again! Hope you do and that you have a great time on the water when that day comes!
@Starback123 Not sure when we will make it to Long Island, but we would like to get there - there's also some great fishing out of Long Island!
Thanks for writing in and until next time,, good luck and good fishing.
Ivo, you must have a bank of go-to videos for the offseason! Thanks for putting it out there, good information.

Yes - 7/0 hooks would be a very good size for live lining bunker - just be sure you have plenty of hook gap exposed :)

It's basically a matter of personal preference - find what works best for you. Thanks!

Hi Derm, you can tip the Viper Spoons with any live bait, cut bait or artificial bait - they all work great and produce fantastic action :)
thanks man

Sure you can and we would greatly appreciate it if you were to copy us on the link as we'd love to see it :)
I don't even live near the East coast. I just watch these videos to hear Ivo talk.

also i hav 7/0 eagle claw lazer shap circle hooks
hey, i have 30 pound braid, and wanted to know if you should go with a heavier fluorocarbon leader or a lighter leader, then my main line? thanks
hey when u coming back to nj
how do i make sure i hav plenty of hook gap the bait is always moving
would 7/0 circle hooks good for live lineing bunker
what types of hooks do you suggest for flounder
Although you can go directly to the T-Turn with your braid, I always prefer to tie the leader line to the braid first and then to the T-Turn etc...
Where do I get that T-Turn Swivel?
So if im drifting i should not even be cranking that handle right..?
Sorry for being worrisome, not sure if you already have a video showing this already. But do you run the braid to the T-Turn and leader line for viper spoon and sinker. Or do you tie leader line to braid then T-Turn and so on?
what else can you tip the rig with
can you use the viper spoon at night ?
...you sure can Steve....suggest using the Bleading Pearl/Chartruse color Viper Spoon :)
awesome thank you
