Greetings Salty T Bum !! Nicely presented. Iam about to involve myself with SCUP 🐠 fishing here in NEngland .Your rig is fantastic but questions follow . If you would please . What size is your single and treble hooks and your mono LB TEST..( fluorocarbon or reg ). You might consider a Tactical Clip ...easier on/off ..T U...ps..I’m subscribed
isn't it strange, over here in England the most common bait for flounder is not plastic but the good old ragworm, or pile worm as you call them in America. In fact worms are the general bait for most fishing. I was wondering why fresh worms are rarely used in America?
As for rigs, a 2 hook flapper is good for flatties, hi lo rig you call them. I've caught flounder plaice and dabs on 2 hook flappers with ragworm tipped with a tiny piece of squid.
The Autistic Angler people use red worms here but not to often for flounder they usually use them for stripped bass worms just don’t produce the flounder that Berkeley gulp does. Plus a big price difference it’s between $10-$12 per dozen of red worms and a 10 pack of gulp is $5-$7 plus the plastics are reusable for multiple fish. I use a high low rig a lot of the time too it just depends on the tackle I have at the time. Thanks for watching the video I would like to get over to England and get into some of the carp you guys have over there!
Ughh I hate loosing rigs especially if it would be this one. How effective is this? I just joined a flounder tournament and waiting for this weekends cool to get me started
Big daddy dolphin it’s pretty good I like using this rig because it is cheaper then using a buck tail I like the John skinner rig a lot but I am on a much tighter budget so I use this more often. The other thing you can use is a egg sinker in place of this type of lead for gliding over rocks if you will be fishing a rocky area.
I like it. Especially the use of a treble hook. Just a curious observation in learning all this is that on the most popular fluke/flounder/halibut rigs like the infamous John Skinner rig, it uses a single/double dropshot technique where the weight sits at the bottom an the plastic(s) are about 6-10" above the sinker in the "striking zone" for the flounder. This is closer to a Carolina rig right, except instead of a sliding sinker it is fixed in place. But I guess flounder will snatch them up from the bottom too just as much?
Yes that is a good way of looking at it. The only thing is that I don’t drag the sinker across the bottom I keep it up off the bottom as I retrieve the bait by jigging and at a constant reel speed that doesn’t allow it to drag. But there are sometimes where I will slow it down and bounce it off the bottom on some occasions.
wayne depends on your situation. When I fish off a bridge I use 40-50 pound braid with a 30 pound mono leader. But when I am fishing from shore where I don’t have to hoist the fish up 15ft out of the water I will use 30 pound braid with 15 - 20 pound mono leader depending on the structure under the water. Hook size is more of a preference I like to be able to disguise the hook as best as possible. So find a hook that will be discreet with the type of bait you are using. I usually use 1/0-3/0 sized hook depending on bait. If you are using a bucktail I use between a 1/2oz - 1oz depending on current and depth. Hope this helps.
Great video, One thing ,wouldn't it be more sensitive to the mainline feeling the bite if you use a sliding sinker and the bait can freely move with the current?
SunsTo7 might be haven’t tried that. I fish with the current coming towards so all the movement that they do is due to how fast I reel and how much jigging action I do. But I will try the sliding sinker and see how it does never hurts to try something new.
Thomas Flickinger no I haven’t tried fish bites I was looking at them the other day I might try to use them before the flounder season is over this year. Thanks for taking the time to watch my vid. It’s much appreciated. I’ll be posting more vids this week.
Salt T Bum thank you for your reply. I only get to OCMD once a year for 3-4 days. I have tried the pier at the inlet and sometimes at the RT.50 bridge. I never do much good anywhere. Of course always visiting in July or August. The simple rig you show with PB or Gulp , maybe fish bites would make fishing simple. Just go to one area or the other. Rig up and fish. Have been way over thinking this salt water fishing. Thank you again for your vids on fishing OC.
Ok! the vid were you used the Gulp Squido is interesting. Only get to OCMD once/year for 3-5 days. Need tips and techniques to jump on the fish. Anything to get even shorts to bite. Keepup the good vids.
Thomas Flickinger squid strips, Berkeley gulp swimming mullets 3in or 4in chartreuse or white attached to a buck tail 3/4 to 1oz will catch you a few different types of fish off the bridge most days. Also shiners or peanut bunker will do the trick too, cut bait works too. I usually just use artificial baits. Striped bass fishing is best in the spring or fall. There are good days here and there during the summer but not to often for the stripers. Hit me up when you come down I’ll fish the bridge with you if you wanted. Just throwing that out there if you wanted some help.
Thanks..... I learned a lot from this video.... hopefully it’ll help me this weekend ❤️
Excellent video. The needle trick is clever. True fisherman. Thanks .
Manuel Abreu thank you appreciate it!
Thanks for showing how to put on a treble hook with the gulp
Fell asleep listening to that.
Thanks for sharing. Going to give this rig a shot.
Very helpful, good, clear video
Doesn’t it snag with the weight being on top of the baits?

What size hooks are you using?

Great video. Thanks man
chris Smith yup thanks for watching
Clear, Concise and so well presented, Excellent.
Thanks appreciate it.

Salt T Bum I never seen this one you're using and I believe it could help me get the big prize! If so I will Holla at you!
Good smoke??
Roger Britton haha no. but I get where you are coming from I guess I could have been a little more animated in the video I was just bored that day.
Man that's ok.
Awesome 👍
Nice simple easy to tie rig and you showed it works. Thanks

Oh I see. Thanks for explaining the detail of the technique!
Very interesting set up... explained well... so do you fish it? Just cast and retrieve? Slow? Twitches?
How do you fish it? Just throw it out and let sit ? Or bounce it back slowly? Jig it? Thanks !
I like the way you demonstrate! Been learning saltwater, and making rigs AN what rigs
Thanks
You say that these are larger hooks, heavier line than you would normally use. So, what size hooks and what size line WOULD you normally use?

The treble hook bait was new to me...Tks for sharing 👍
al151073 no problem thanks for taking the time to watch
THANKS" BRO" GONNA GIVE IT A GO!
stuart bailey I hope you had some luck!
Also have you tried Fish BItes as bait? Just curious, also like the use of treble hooks and not alot of hardware to tie the rig.
