I love the Rick set hook set…..😂🙌🏼🎣
Fishing picked up big time, went out on our new boat yesterday I had 7 keepers, had to pick up the slack for my dad and girlfriend 😂 killed them on the 6 inch chartreuse mullets
The electronics on that boat are sick.
But why anyone would spend that kind of money on an aluminum boat specifically for saltwater use is beyond me.
Haha I was out fishing the eastern grounds this day. Blues were nuts, had one chomp a keeper sea bass in half on the retrieve. Tight lines!
It appears that multiple colour presentations on the jigs are taking fish !!
I’m so sorry this microphone makes me look stupid what I meant to say was that I consider you the leading author on flounder fishing and there habits you have made my trips flounder fishing A lot more successful
That's great to watch.
Another awesome video.
Best fluke yet!
A guy next to me caught a big Stargazer yesterday, scary looking fish
I caught one last year at the foot of my feet in Long Beach. Well prior to were the swimmers were. Had no idea what it was until I googled it. Lucky I don’t handle fish I don’t know without gloves etc
Quality as usual
i did well off jersey yesterday on the salmon red...
You gentlemen are fish catching machines! Great video as usually.
Is that really a 3 oz bucktail from the video today? It looks bigger or am I blind lol.
Love the Skinner videos! Please share rods n reels model numbers. I live very close to J&H Tackle. Thx!

Hi, John. I bumped into a friend of yours surf casting at smith point beach about a month back I told her about the story of learning how to fish for fluke at the lip formation when it occurs in sand when ocean breaks kind of suddenly. I used glup in a high low rig light tackle and light rod and jigged. I caught the smallest fluke maybe 5 or 6 inches but it was so much fun because every cast was a fish on. sometimes two. She said you were a software at BNL. I'm a software developer myself and interned at BNL about 30 years ago when i was studying phyiscs as an undergrad.
Very cool! Do you recall her name?
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Unfortunately i do not.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing I almost want to say Sharon but I'm not sure.
Great catch! Last year I ran across a guy in South Texas that was catching a bunch of doormat size flounder. Of all things, he was using a bass crankbait! The lure would dive down and dig its bill into the sand as it was being cranked in. The flounder crushed it. Although skeptical, I tried it, and it worked! Just passing along an unconventional method that seems to work.
It just goes to show how aggressive they are.
Love your videos I have all your books that you published I consider you the lead with already home flounder I’m sure there’s other safari feel the same way great videos keep it up thank you very much for sharing and God bless
I appreciate the kind words and support!
Do you have a video explaining what color/size gulp you use depending on water conditions?
Nice job skinner, some good fluking from shore still with tons of bait around, was out yesterday morning had two 20” keepers in an hour b4 the tide died, been a good few trips now since I haven’t left with dinner, yesterday was a bit different tho, the fish where spitting up a ton of little flat fish, couldn’t tell if they baby fluke or flounder but it was interesting just how many they were spitting up considering they were caught under a clouds of rain bait, peanut bunker and spearing and had none of those three comin out
That's awesome shore action!
Captain D's 😂😂
16.5" Sea Bass minimum is crazy. 13" in Delaware
It's very sad what fishing has become on the east coast.. when one has to buy a boat or spend $$ on a charter and still run East to get on the decent sized fish... I grew up on LI (Nassau County) and as kids we rode our bikes (rods tied to them) to any shore North or South and catch all we wanted and spend the day swimming in any of the local bays..... Today those fishing grounds are bare. Thanks to Commercial Draggers and pollution..
Funny (not really) how you got no response on that
Yeah that smoked out of Canada was crazy in nj
Another fun day. What kind of boat soes Rick have?
32' Metal Shark Fearless
Location, location, location! Great fishing, John!
Sorry. I missed it. Where are you guys fishing, or fishing out of. Great fluke fishing. My favorite.
We're based in Greenport, NY.
Great trip John! Thanks for sharing. Do you wver use fluke bellies as a teaser? I have tried but the seem to get twisted up on the hook.
I should, but don't. Partially for the reason you cite.
Nice job, you guys make it look too easy. Trying my luck off block Tuesday
Try the colors mackerel and sardine
Is there an advantage to using silicone-skirted teasers as opposed to small bucktail teasers?
I don't think so, but these slightly weighted teasers with long-shanked hooks with barbs on the hook shanks hold the 6-inch grubs perfectly.
I cannot find the gulf a jog he is using. Anyone help?
Nice flatties! I just moved to the VA Beach area and I'm going to start flounder fishin' as seriously as possible from shore.
I wonder if a strip of Fish Bites or Fish Gum would be a good trailer? They have a bunch of flavors and I caught spots on Fish Bites by itself so fish eat it for sure. It's tougher than Gulp. I'll try it and if I do well I'll let you know. Getting back near the water is like getting my soul back after 6 years of the NC foothills. Once I'm more settled in I'll be fishin'. A lot.
Get otter tails instead, they have more action than fish bites and are just as durable
I expected to see you on your boat when the video opened, instead it was on Rick's beautiful Metal Shark. Is that a 32'?
Yes. 32' Fearless.
Hey @John Skinner FIshing ,
I have combed through your fishing the bucktail videos, bought the book and even watched some of the seminars you have given on other channels.
In short here is my question:
I'm fishing out of northern California, I'd like to get 30 minutes/1 hour maximum with you via a teams meeting or zoom call. I have looked at the structure on google earth and am having trouble pinpointing fish.
The area is very shallow, but waves a big. The beach structure is not favorable for bucktails. How do I get in contact with you to make this happen?
Thanks
sounds like Howard Stern fishing.
Awesome. What state do you live in? I've heard this before but no one from NY would ever say that and I always wonder.
Do you think the color of the gulp has a real affect on the fishing or is it more about the contrast
There are hot colors some days, for whatever reason.
Something to consider when using bait casting reels, it’s like playing baseball, if you’re right handed you catch with your left, and throw with your right. Same here, hold the reel with the palm of your left hand, with your finger tips under the reel seat, not the handle. Your right finger tips under the fore grip. This I find to be a much more ergonomic and makes jigging much easier, and leaves your right hand in the best position to set the hook, and reel, no changing hands. That’s why those reels are shaped that way. If you’re left handed, do the exact opposite, with a left handed reel. I don’t see many salt water anglers doing this. Just my observation, give it a try, you’re wrist will appreciate it. Thanks.
I’ve asked a million people….. no one has a legit explanation as to why any right handed (which most of us are!!) would be required to reel a bait caster with our right hand and hold the rod in our left??? Makes zero sense!! We don’t do it with our spinning reels!! Why would anyone want the rod in their non dominant hand?? I try to buy all my baitcasters left hand reel
Question for you John, the salt strong mapping app… is it only for the southern states or does it include the New England area? Also George M
I checked with them to get the best answer: "Yes, we have “smart spots” coverage in the NE which is the Geofenced feature I described if the mapping software where it shows how likely based on tide, wind, season, etc a particular area is to hold fish. Our NE coach Rich is working with the system to add new spots daily. Their goal is to add an additional 10,000 smart spots before the end of the year with a solid chunk of those coming in the NE region. I know for Striper/Fluke many of the New England anglers use it for mapping under ground structure, drop offs with the depth chart, and sea surface temperature (all of those features are available across the US). The only features that are only prevalent from Texas to the NE is the Oyster beds/Sea grass layer (in applicable states), and Smart Spots (the geofenced highlighted areas based on conditions)."
Great fishing How’s Doc doing?
He's really doing great and he's on the water a lot!
I’m not understanding are you to dedicated that man on that boat? What is another people just net when the fish is closer to somebody else? I’d like to know that John.
Whoever is out of the water nets. After that it's all up in the air, but net proximity as well as proximity to whoever is hooked up usually comes into play.
Skinner I got j question does the small skinny part of the tail on the end of the sea bass count as a measurement?
Great question. It does not. It's in the regs somewhere.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks
What lb berkley 9x are you using? Should I be using 20 or 30lb for party boat fishing?
You should not go heavier than 15 regardless of what you're fishing on. Doing so increases drag in the water, forces you to use heavier weights with less action, and pretty much messes up the whole approach.
Anyone told you that you sound like Alan Alder 🤔
Not really, but it beats being told I sound like Howard Stern, which has happened.
What pound test did you use
15
Hey, John. What do you use for editing. Like laptops, editing apps etc… I’ve always wanted to start making my own videos and wondered what you use.
Adobe Elements on a laptop with plenty of RAM.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thank you sir👍
What pound test main line do you use?
15
How can I rent a boat in the area ?
Thanks, Sir.
How many oz is your buck tail each? Thanks 🙂
3-6 ounces depending on conditions.
This is just out of sheer curiosity but any reason why you like the white line from Berkley as opposed to chartreuse? I really like the hi-vis chartreuse line for fluking. It helps keep track of where my line is, whether it’s scoping or the subtle bite detection. Anyway , thanks John. Tight lines.
I'd prefer chartreuse for this application if I had it.
Does the aluminum boat seem noisier than the fiberglass boats?😊
I don't notice it.
Most newer aluminum boats are foam filled for flotation and really do a good job of sound deadening.
@@ragnarragnarsson3128
This boat is foam filed in various water tight compartments.
how many miles was the trip from greenport? I was quessing 30 one way?
A bit farther.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks for the reply. Any thoughts on going for Tuna this year? maybe Rick is up for trailering his boat Chatham ,MA for a trip? you can launch from Ryders cove beach launch. While up there you can fish Nantucket shoals. It would make for great content.
@@user-dc9bq1nn9n I think it would be too much of a trailering haul off LI. Block is about as far as we go.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing looks like ramp is 2hour 15 min from New London ferry. Thought he may be up for it since he brought boat to FL last winter.
I feel like you've said this before.. but can you explain the differences between putting your bucktail below your teaser vs above your teaser? I see it both ways alot. I am used to using my bucktail below my teaser with the teaser on a single T drop.
