    Have you thought of or used a double fluke rig which is very similar to this except the top bait is on a swivel that runs on the main line and is stopped by another swivel that the other fluke is tied onto

      I’ve never tried to use flukes like that before, might be something I play around with in the spring/early summer.

    Awesome break down man! Do you have a favorite retrieve technique to make sure the lures have a lot of action and still are close to the bottom? My two favorite are about a 5-6 twitch pause then a slow and steady retrieve that occasionally ticks the bottom.

      Thanks man. One of my favorite retrieves is is just a steady twitch slowly reeling back to the boat.

    Question: I've noticed muddy bottoms in the marsh area where I typically fish versus sandy bottoms nearer the gulf. Where are flounders most prevalent? Muddy bottoms or sandy bottoms? Thanks

      Well that’s sort of a simple question with a complex answer lol. The short answer is both, however I myself prefer sandy bottom to catch flounder. 1 reason is that sandy bottoms are cleaner and typically have much better clarity which allows the flounder to see the lures thrown around them. Another reason would be that sandy bottoms contain little to no vegetation which means less snags and cleaner retrieves.

    I use the alpine butterfly knot for tree work and there’s a much easier way to tie . Take the leader in the middle hold a loop twist 3 times and fold the loop up through the center of the twist and pull tight

    This is a great rig, but it's hardly something new. Back in the early '70s, a small lure company based in St. Petersburg, Florida, called Love's Lures, made tandem rigged jigs with both grub tails and curly tails that were very popular. Mister Twister made the first curly-tailed soft plastic lures, and Love's Lures did as well. You just can't create a better wheel. Your "square knot" that you showed looks more like an overhand knot.

      Definitely not a new rig. No claims for it to be one. The tandem rig is just an effective rig for catching a multitude of species. It’s also an extremely under utilized method here on the Gulf Coast and thought that it would be a good topic of discussion I may have called it a square knot. I do not recall, but then again I also said that gulp would eat your gulp in the video just a mispronunciation. Sometimes the brain is thinking one thing and my mouth spits out another.

      @@southernsalt LOL....I hear that. A good rig and you're right...very underused. DOA Lures makes one I use now called the Deadly Tandem.

      I never heard of the deadly tandem from DOA. You’ve definitely intrigued me to check it out though.

    Why would you be fishing rocks for flounder? I’m confused! At least here in Cape May we fish sand amd mud for Flounder. We fish rock for Tog

      @southernsalt  3 года назад

      I’m referring to rock jetties it’s still a sand or mud bottom but the flounder but up to the jetties

    Good stuff! The tandem is awesome on those soft bite days, or to help when you might be retrieving too fast. That set up will save those missed hookups. I have another way to tie that when using mono off the reel that's a variation of the bottom rig I use for live bait. It helps avoid snagging the loop on the dropper when you are fishing that sand bottom around a structure. Love the videos sir! Keep it up!
