did you know that sonic unleashed was not even planned to be a sonic game, it was planned to be a remastering of the sega genesis game ristar. this is why the werehog canstrech its arms. the game was scrapped because ristar didn't sell well and sega was not sure if the game would be successful
SoulBlayzR only the wii version of sonic colours got more than 3 acts in each zone. The only exception is terminal velocity which only has 2 acts and a boss

TheArceusftw I have to disagree with the fact that sonic's fan base is worse than the COD enlightenment army. I've never seen the sonic fan base going off to other game's videos and saying horrible, incorrect things about the franchise. In the mobile version of Sonic 2, Hidden Palace Zone can be accessed through a pit in Mystic Cave Zone. It even has it's own boss!

Sonic actually is a worthy competitor to Mario and only lost because SEGA themselves were a bunch of idiots that did not know how to run a company after their early launch of the Saturn brought them to shame. Did not help that they cancelled a finished Sonic game for the Saturn that they MIGHT AS WELL had gone through with to see if it could have saved their asses.

M. SKWAWKS To say that Sonic wasn't "that popular" in the mid-nineties is a joke. He overshadowed Mario during the Genesis era, got his own parade float once and did a lot of things that you seem to have overlooked here.
You're thinking about the negatives instead of the positives. If Sonic had a game in 1996, it might have saved it since the Saturn wasn't a bombshell quite yet and still had a few certain cult classics that came out around that year.
So, from a business standpoint, everyone playing that Sonic game and seeing it run at 60fps (which was ready to go for finalizing, had the executives approved) might have been a little much for them to handle; in a good way, that is.
If there is one thing I learned from making video games, it is that everyone loves it when you give them something they have never seen before and polish it in a way that most regular franchises do it with lots of features, Easter Eggs, bonuses, tight gameplay and more.
But, as I said before, all of it is just speculation. Neither you or I even know if it could have bombed, so no need to force either one as though we time traveled in an alternate timeline where the game was released and did well/bad at this time.

The game was nearly finished BEFORE they showed it to executives. You forgot about the part of the story where they all got sick and whatnot because they rejected that concept; don't just go spewing bullshit at me.
M. SKWAWKS Because that build is after they began remaking it. The executives asked them to remodel the game like the boss engine and we never saw the build before that, as shown in the Crystal Frost video.

Hidden Palace was put in the app version of the game if you fall down 1 of the last pits in mystic cave you land in an actually playable level and Robotnik has a wierd Tuba based contraction that summons rocks and rock spears and it still has those three enimies

Man, I miss the days when a whole bunch of mostly finished content could just be 'cut' from a game, and the game would end up having these little hidden assets and Easter eggs to discover. I feel like these days, development costs are so high that every little asset and every little part of any given game is meticulously planned out, and nothing is left to hacker discovery. There are exceptions, of course, but for the most part, it's much more rare these days.

It's odd that President Clinton was an influence on Sonic's personality because when the first Sonic game released in the U.S., he was still governor of Arkansas.
