Did anyone else take into account that Eggman looked a lot like Mario? A chubby guy, mustache and red as his main color? I was kinda surprised when they said his design was based off of Theodor Roosevelt.
I guess, but Mario's biggest feature is his face, while Dr. Eggman's is his belly. I see what you're getting at, but I don't see much resemblance between the two of them besides your quick barebones description.

The disturbing Sonic faces always looked like Mario and Sonic after a failed fusion to me.
Most people do not know this, but I think I've figured it out. Dr. Eggman's mustache resembles walrus tusks. His body is big and round. He looks just like a walrus. Walrus, Eggman? It is clearly a reference to the Beatles' "I am the Walrus." The lyric is, "I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus! Goo goo g'joob!" It is a clear allusion to the best band in the world.
Another random Eggman fact is that in Adventure 2 he still has Japanese dialogue in the Chao Garden: "Yoshi!" Which (Loosely) means "YES/Awesome!"

Amys original name was Rosy the Rascal, but that was scrapped. Later the archie comics used that name for the moebius amy. AKA antiverse amy. Rosys design was also in the comics. Rosys first name is used in Amys last name, Rose, as a reference to rosy.
Sonic was originally was going to be a yellow hedgehog or a rabbit.

1:13 Omochao is actually referring to the Chao World doctor, not Eggman, in the Japanese version of the game he uses the world "Hakase" (meaning doctor), Eggman was never refered to as hakase in japanese, they always use the english word doctor instead, unlike the doctor in Chao World.
Also, I *Think* the Chao World doctor was renamed in the english release of the game?

Wile all sega fans were bitching about sonic games becoming bad, they did not notice this one SUPER GOOD sonic game come out. Sonic rush. Go play it. Its SO GOOOD.
Damn straight, man! Such a forgotten title. It also featured a far different but equally superior soundtrack done by Hideki Naganuma, and one of those tracks made it into SSBB.

Are you stupid? Bowser is the villain. It's supposed to be nasty and disturbing that he wants peach as his bride. It's literally the point of the game to not let that happen. With Sonic, it's treated as completely normal and totally fine. That's the weird part.
What if I told you that Eggman design was really based on the concept SEGA members had of Mario, hence the red color scheme and the big mustache. In addition, the baldness of Eggman was a running joke inside SEGA HQ of the fact that Mario wears a cap because "he's too afraid to show his baldness in public" (when in reality, it was, by the time Super Mario Bros came out, because of the difficulty of programming the hair movement when jumping).
Eggman will always be know as Robotnik to me. It just sounds way better.

Yeah. "Eggman," was too stupid of a name to me for him to willingly call himself that. I always saw it as more of an insult, kinda like "Robuttnik" from the old Sonic cartoons on Saturday mornings (w/ Princess Sally and all).

The "Majin" part is simply the name/pen name of the designer of that image, as it's evident from the kanji character after the name, which means "draw/drew". And besides, the Japanese character spelling of the name is different than the demon god whatever spelling.

Sonic X Treme looked a bit awful, a good thing it was camcelled and later we haved Sonic Adventure. I thinked sonic should haved a plattaforming game in saturn but not that way. I didnt wanted sonic pass to 3D were bad.
Agustin Leguiza It's much funner than it looks. The restoration project restored every level that was not finished and it plays amazingly. Of course, nobody ever likes to try new things, so it is no surprise that this opinion is as pessimistic as it sounds.

I think many American cartoons used to have animals with human women as love interests in the past.
Not as genuine love interests, It was usually something like the Good guy always gets the girl and the girl was usually human. The girls might like the furry guy, but not be in love with him. Like liking a stuffed animal. Nothing more substantial than that.
The current furry trend is for the human female and the furry male to be more than friends.

I and think of a couple such examples that might be taken as such. But infatuation is about the extend of it.
The Anthropomorphic appearance is really to show the attitude of the character rather than simply being a furry in love with a human. Such displays are often plays on pop cultural concepts of those times., Like the classic Tex Avery classic of the dapper wolf, being the rowdy, barely controlled guy, in lust with the incredibly hot human girl.
An example in Animaics with Yakko and Wakko and "Hello nurse", are the two being too silly for their own good showing outrageous behavior toward a human female. This was not love. Basically sexual harassment.
Beauty and Beast themes have been played throughout Cartoon history, like Disney's Gargoyles. But this and all other such cases are a matter of real love between souls, not lust of the flesh.
Any remaining cases of Anthro on human love is "Good guy gets the girl" scenarios.

Actually, "Majin" is the nickname of Masato Nishimura. He was the landscape designer in Sonic CD. He even said that that secret screen was a joke and that that's his nickname.

so ironic that SEGA once wanted to dominate the market by sonic, and both sonic games and SEGA are screwed nowadays (so ironic that the best sonic game is still the SEGA CD version)
Sonic isn't screwed over at all. They just made some bad choices, and you can't blame them with Yuji Naka gone. Besides, Nintendo isn't doing too well either right now.
1) Sonic is not screwed, he's been recovering with the release of games like Sonic Colours and Generations, though your mileage may vary on Lost World.
2) Sonic CD is not the best Sonic game by far. In fact, objectively it is the worst of the Classic Sonic games. It was shorter then the previously released Sonic 2, featured a clumsy time travel system, split the Spin Dash into two considerably less useful moves, lacked both a multi-player feature and the unlockable Super Sonic bonus that made getting the mineral based items worth it, had pathetically easy though admittedly unique bosses and worst of all it's level design was all over the place. Sonic games are best when they are horizontally focused, allowing people with skill to attain great speeds. Sonic CD was vertically focused, with most obstacles blocking Sonic's way and preventing him from gaining any kind of speed. It was like the Lost Levels to Sonic 1's Super Mario Bros. Many can argue whether it's better then Sonic 1, but against Sonic 2, 3, Knuckles and of course 3 and Knuckles combined it falls flat in every way except music. Both soundtracks kicked ass, but game play is where the real value of a game comes through and CD did a good job obstructing players from doing anything without tedium getting in the way.
I'm about to binge watch a scary amount of games. Nostalgia at its finest.
Ah.. that Sonic CD one, so refreshing to encounter once again, cursing me with it's ability to prevent me from sleeping, so wonderful.

Sonic fans are really disappointing me. They say that only the original Sonic games were good and they complain about the changes too much. Come on fans! Sonic and the Black Knight is bad because Sonic has a sword? What?! Sonic Unleashed is bad because Sonic goes a bit slower in the Werehog stages? Really?! Shadow the Hedgehog is bad because it's a little more serious and has guns? Wow! I can't stand it. Sonic Unleashed is one of my favorite Sonic games and Shadow the Hedgehog is incredible! Some fans even hate the old Game Gear games! Those were great, including Sonic Chaos and Sonic Triple Trouble. Those games were better than the ports of Sonic 1 & 2 on the Game Gear! The Sonic fans whine too much and complain and it's sickening!

badasksofjustice I have changed my views a bit. I now realize that Shadow the Hedgehog is a little bland and Sonic and the Black Knight is pretty boring. The reason I feel this way is probably because I've left this stage that I was in where I would play Sonic and nothing else. Those two games I mentioned truly aren't THAT good to me anymore. I still like the Sonic franchise but I am now able to tell the difference between good, mediocre, and bad. It was a little immature of me to say those, as I bashed on Sonic fans for having an opinion on games. If you don't like certain games, that's fine. As I said earlier, I still like the Sonic franchise, but I have brushed aside some games that don't belong on my list of what I would consider "good" Sonic games. If you really want to know, yes the Genesis classics are the best and the adventure series is alright, however, Adventure 2 seems a little rush and they're both riddles with bugs and crappy camera angles, but they're still fun and playable. The Game Gear titles, apart from Sonic 2 and Blast are pretty good. Now for the most controversial: the new 3D titles. I'll just list some off and tell you if they're awesome, good, okay, or they suck. Here we go

The Tails screen is re-used in the phone port of Sonic CD when you unlock him at the end of Sonic's Game.
His name is first and foremost, Dr. Robotnik. Not Eggman. Eggman was the stupid ass name given to him once the games stopped being good. (After the genesis)
I remember reading somewhere that he was always called Dr. Eggman in Japan, sort of like how Princess Peach was always called Princess Peach in Japan, but called Princess Toadstool in English up until Sunshine if memory serves me correctly.

They're basically fox spirits that take human form, seduce human lovers, and eat their souls/vital organs to drain their energy and eventually become human.
I don't think Madonna being in the game would draw any of those kinds of correlations, but that's possibly why it could've been seen as "too japanese" to have an animal dating a human. Aside from the whole bestiality thing that Disney's allowed to get away with.

I think Tikal and Knuckles jumping during cutscenes (too lazy to put the whole thing here yes I know it's in those cutscenes) just means that they use the same character base. It's easy to retexture something like that.

just a shot in the dark here but, That part about Robotnicks mustache being fake reminds me of the Beatles. One of the songs on Sgt Peppers backwards has the saying "it was a fake mustache" and an insert had cut out badges, pins and a mustache. Maybe it was a play on that whole conspiracy.

I don't know much about Sonic as I grew up with the Super Nintendo console. But this was a great video never-the-less. I'm a bit disturbed by Sonic's skull being on the neck of a character in Jet Set. xD
