Björn, the door handle can be pulled when pulled hard enough. It duplicates as a mechanical lock as well hiding a lock under the handle if the battery goes dead.
A few things, Bjørn: It's the same interior in Max as 1st (alcantara). There is lane assist in 1st and Max, but only Max has Lane Centering Assist. The screen is 10" in 1st and 12" in Max. There are USB C ports in the rear on both cars, but no climate controls (only vents) on 1st.

Awesome review as always. You need a tall friend, though. I have watched you get into a ton of cars and every time I'm like "yeah, now get a tall Dutchman in there and see how much space is left".
Just been watching other reviews for the Skoda Enyak on youtube. Bjorn you are so much better than your competitors! "A little to James May" hahaha brilliant.
In the US at least, the 1st Edition is a mid-level trim - glass roof, trailer hitch, the US version of the LED (Matrix) headlights, heated front seats and steering wheel, memory front seats, largest battery, and strongest RWD motor. What we lack that I would have liked, is a heat pump, direct heating windshield defroster, heated rear seats (which aren't available on any model, I think?).
About the door handle, I saw a video demonstrating that it coulde be lifted specially on the driver's side. It can be done manually if there is a problem with the electric opening function of it.
Bjorn, can u please do a "winter" consumption test of ID4 at 120 km/h? I know u finished the range test in summer-like temperature yesterday, but the winter temperature range is also very useful information. Thanks!
Good morning Björn! Greetings from Berlin. I decided I go for the first ( it’s not the base model actually, that’s the pure). It’s 10000 € cheaper, and has the same interior quality material. Only as you mentioned, no powered seats and ... massage (shiiit) It had the charging ports in the back ( back is except the temp control 100% the same) . It’s missing the panoramic roof, but has usb also in front. I think actually it has also isolated side windows and depending on the county where it’s delivered, it has wireless charging. It will miss the power tailgate and the double floor in the back. 10” screen iso 12” and no hud. Standard still heat pump ( most of the countries in Europe) and same charging speed in the First, and also 20” wheels. For that money, it was a no brainer for me. The first is 20% cheaper and probably more efficient ( less kg due to no glass roof, power seats, smaller wheels, less options) . Just missed some goodies. I’m very curious what you would choose after testing it. The luxery one (you only live one time) or the smart First option ? Have fun ! Did you actually lived in Berlin? Come back! It’s much warmer here and you’ll get almost a 10000 bonus when buying an EV!;) . So, the first will cost in Germany 37000€. That’s a very good deal!!
Great video! Very useful! 😊 Can I ask you about the door windows? I notice that it only have 2 bottoms for windows on the driver’s side, that makes me think that you can only control the 2 windows on the front… is that the case? Or if it’s not then how can you control the windows from the back..??
The thing black with a hook is for the towing. What about the mirror in the front. it is to low ? BEcause in the leaf the mirror block the view when you tall.

Hummm interesting, I have a Volkswagen t-roc and I use to have sometimes phantom breaking so if there is no more phantom breaking screen with the ID4, it means that VW has improved their driving system 🤔
From what I have read from other reviews, there is "phantom braking" if you have ACC configured to adapt to speed signals and the car reads a departure lane with lower speed as if it were in the main lane.
I love your videos because im in to the new stuff. And non of the cars today has enough cream to let me buy one. Waiting for solid state batteries and fast charging at least 15min time to full.
Such fast charging was possible for long time already but itll always degrade battery faster. 2c charging is good compromise (30-40min) - pretty fast and u dont kill lithium pack so quickly
Tesla gets a lot of criticism for their "non-premium" interior - but this VW is too *Plastic Fantastic*! So this is the 'superior' VW material quality?? I think not. As someone below commented: ID4 has this nice Walmart feel to it :) :) :) Bjørn: would have liked some more detailed review of the controls. Seems as if the buttons on the steering wheel are the same sh1tty touch ones as in the ID3 - and what about the electric windows, you still only get 2 buttons for both the 2 front + the 2 rear windows?

We have tried both ID cars with my family - ID3 and ID4. And yes the ID4 is the way better family car imho as it drives more comfy, has more space and the better trunk. I guess that the ID4 will sell wuite well. First test of your RUclips collegues in Germany and the US have shown that the consumption is OK and the charging curve is indeed wuite good. Volkswagen does this for morst of their cars and I would like to have this "freedom" within the ID family as well. Interior material mix still is somewhat cheap and not everyone likes their color combination... My family went for the Skoda Enyaq iV60 instead as we all liked the design in and out more than the ID4. 24.4. is the official launch date here in Germany. Our Enyaq has already a FIN - so we hopw that we will get even before summer. E-Gold and iV60 - perfect combination... Thanks for the video Björn.
VW differentiates between Lane Assist and Travel Assist. Lane assist is standard in all models, Travel Assist is not, it is a "premium feature". Lane Assist will warn and try to keep the car in the lane if no signal is active, but it won't try to keep the car in the middle of the lane, and it cannot do lane changes. It is simply a safety feature, not in any way an Autopilot. And it is always active in the background. Travel Assist on the other hand tries to keep the car in the middle of the lane, but with fairly low max steering torques which can be overwhelmed by tight corners and it can lane change. However, it has to be activated and is designed mostly for well built roads. It is VWs attempt at building a Autopilot system.
I tried during my testdrive. Doesn't work. But I also went out and closed it by hand (well, button at the hatch..), didn't even think about the key... 😆
Same as etron nothing works to close the boot door from the driver's door. Etron keyfob doesn't even close the boot door. However, annoyingly, there are variations and some models in some regions do allow the boot to close from the driver's door and keyfob.
