Love you Elizabeth, I literally never comment on any YT videos but you've been making me feel so understood these past 6 months. I never found anyone who I could completely relate to on YT, but now you're here and I feel it's easier to accept myself knowing there's others similar to me! Thank you for creating content!
Imo, meditation is a practice of observing your mind, that means allowing your thoughts to flow, like how water flow in a river. Then let go of the thought that comes up. It’s not really about stopping yourself from thinking anything, but to observe your thoughts and pass no judgement to those thoughts in the process. I meditate for 20 minutes a day and it honestly helps me to be more mindful of the now, rather than feeling depressed about the past or feeling anxious/ worried about the future. Nice video!! I’d like to try out a floatation tank someday.
I disagree. The aim of meditation is to be able to look at reality without the interference of the mind. Therefore, without thinking. However, before reaching this amazing point and while practicing meditation, thoughts are unavoidable. The attitude towards this is, as you said, is observing the mind, rather than rejecting it (or punishing yourself for not being able not to think). By rejecting your thoughts, instead of just observing and letting the them go (therefore, not attaching to them), you are doing the opposite of meditation, which is to think more: "think that you should not be thinking". The point is, once you can experience a quiet mind, you are able look and experience reality in a complete different and more direct way. Observing your thoughts is part of the process, but not the aim.
Cannot agree more. Watching bodies of water prevents me from overthinking into a large scaled panic attack! I usually have wave sounds in the back while I work too. Loved this video!!! As always, great work Elizabeth.
The new background looks super clean and zen. Really fits with the aura u give off in the videos 👌 Btw are you ever considering doing a video on all the equipment you use? I'm not sure if you've already made a video on this but if u haven't I feel it would be cool.
"Silence, I discover, is something you can actually hear." ~ Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore🏵️ Thank you for... Just being you. I hope one day I'll get to shake your hand, offer you a cup of tea, and talk to you, Elizabeth. Perhaps it's just a totally random impression of mine, but I feel that behind every video of yours, every line, every word, there's a world of deep reflection and incredible thinking to discover, a depth and a wisdom that are rare to find, and striking to experience to say the least. I look up to you. For inspiring me to accept my chaotic inner self and take a step back to freeze it for a bit, just enough to breathe and re-gather my strength, I thank you. Ad majora, semper💞
As someone who suffered crippling anxiety, this video resonates with me. My brain was like a zoo and I could never switch off. In the end, I had to take medication which completely changed my life. It has slowed me down considerably, but I am now able to relax and switch off. Getting back to the video, similar to your painting exercise, I found the same results with drawing. I would zone out and everything else around me would melt away. When you suffer from a constantly racing mind, these small breaks from it all are everything. I'm glad to see you have these techniques that work for you. One thing I have noticed with people who suffer from this, they have amazing recall and generally think things through at a faster speed than others. It's a double-edged sword in that respect. Now having experienced what it is like from both ends, I would take the relaxed state over the high revs -- even though my recall and thinking speed has declined considerably. It was hell for me.

Reacting to the point of feeling like time goes by so quickly when you're doing a lot of things: I honestly feel that when I look back on my life so far, the periods that have been filled with new and exciting experiences, feel so much more significant and in a sense "slower". I remember those times more vividly and remember how I felt, even in short moments. I feel like time seems to be speeding up because as you get older, you usually start falling into a pattern and the weeks, months and years seem to blur together. Slowing down is good of course, but I think it should go hand in hand with (gently) leaving that comfort zone from time to time and live.
I love your content so much because you are so introspective. One of the rare RUclipsrs who are not humble for the sake of being humble. By the way, I think you are already meditating by painting :D I think the "goal" of meditation is to live in the moment.
I love your videos so much! You’re my favourite RUclipsr ❤️ I’m such an over-thinker myself, so I’m definitely going to have to try some of these! The “don’t believe everything you think” at the end resonates hugely with me! Thank you so much for all the videos you make ❤️
I definitely love to look at bodies of water whenever I can, it just completely takes over and nothing else really comes to mind! I also love drinking tea outdoors in the fresh air, so calming...
The title made me feel worried. Quite effective in making me watch the video. I loved the suggestion of the flotation tanks. I’ve never tried it and makes me want to give it a shot. Keep up the great work!
When I'm busy and working I never get overwhelmed (80+ hour work weeks). When I pause and break for too long, that's when I get overwhelmed and chaotic 😅
I love your videos but I really loved this one! I feel the same when I’m around water and I live in Cornwall so I’m by the sea a lot. Whenever I sit on the cliffs and look at all of the water in front of me I’m always amazed by how much water there actually is and it always makes me feel so small (not in a bad way); it reminds me how big the world is and what a tiny part I actually play in it!

I just met you today while looking for videos on why to not buy ipad for the university (which made me save a good portion of my hard-earned money), and while watching that video I noticed you saying a certain thing that made me want to know a bit more about you (I won't say what was it although this could be obvious). Therefore I'm here and regarding this video I'd like to share with you one of my favorite quotes (I let google autotranslate it from Polish, but it's quite accurate): ,, [...] I felt better now, with an intensity bordering on pain and joy at the same time, all my humiliation, all the misery of prison life. But at the same time I resurrected in silence and solitude, and more than once I dreamed of being transferred to a single prison cell as if I was most lucky. [...] The hospital was the only place in the camp and prison where lights were turned off at night. And it was then in the dark that I realized that only loneliness in human life is a state bordering on absolute inner peace, with regaining individuality. Only in the all-consuming emptiness of solitude, in the darkness blurring the contours of the outside world, can you feel that you are yourself to the point of doubt, which suddenly becomes conscious of your own nothingness in the terrifyingly growing vastness of the universe. If this state has something mystical about it, if it pushes a person to embrace religion, then I was religious, praying blasphemously: "God, give me loneliness, because I hate people". Because at the same time with this euphoria of personality resurrection, I felt that I was a graveyard of everything I had in common with other people. " - G. Herling-Grudziński, A World Apart (1951). So there's my little story.
Very interesting topic Liz! Seems like everyone has a different thing to quiet the mind. For me, music (both playing and listening) helps too. Never tried the Isolation tank, they are hard to find where I'm at, but I'm very curious about the experience
Watching this video is really a worth of it. As I also want to pause myself for some time. It somehow gives an internal peace which is essential in today's world where we all are busy in chasing our dreams. I usually listen to soothing music or take a nap to shut down my brain as it gives me an internal silence. I am really thankful for the videos you make it really helps me. Keep Going 👍. Best wishes from me ❤️.
I don't why but in my opinion this video was different and so important! it's good to hear this from someone who has a productivity channel because most of them don't pay attention to these stuffs. I really liked the intro btw.

Good! Sensory dep tanks are amazing. The one I use is an hour, but it takes me 40 minutes to zone out. Finally got to where it was getting easier to let go and… boom.. covid. Haven’t been able to find any places with open tanks since then. argh. Art for sure helps. I do collage, and can just sit and sort paper for hours with no thoughts at all. Moments of having an empty mind are so important.

There is something to 04:33 when John Byrne rebooted Namor: the Sub Mariner in 1990 he explained his previous history of rage as a symptom of Namor’s not making full use of his hybrid DNA. He was putting himself at risk of launching into episodes if he was out of balance depending on the time out of water and land. There is probably application to finding rhythm with our entropy (2nd law of thermodynamics, the whole universe surrendering or defaulting to minimal effort and maximum disarray).

May be the reason we all find meditation difficult is because our wants(a peaceful mind) doesn’t match our actions(hustle,success,money,RUclips,productivity)….. and somebody started the narrative that meditation’s end goal is to stop thinking😑
Thank you so much for sharing these with us❤️ I discovered painting few months ago, (thank you, because you inspired me) and I am feeling so grateful for this, although I am not really good, I am enjoying sooo much. Keep on sharing your thoughts with us, I appreciate very much ❤️✨
In a dream I had years ago a mare from a team of giant mountain sized horses in a paddock as big as the sky got down on it's forelegs to let a foal onto it's back and then stood and galloped off with the team. This dream is more meaningful than any of the storyboards my mind worked on in my dreams to enjoy for partially violent fantasy and super hero and science fiction shows that I have watched. A lot of the problem of the modern world is the nihilistic nature of wage slavery and the stories we no longer live in nature and the nihilistic violent territorial status games of pop culture tv or movies that are not about romance, travel, nature or domestication fantasy. The mythic can bring meaning even to minimalism for instance by seeing and feeling and sensing the myriad goods and evils and treasured moments and lost treasured moments in the materials and colors and forms and practical uses of objects throughout their histories as well as the mythic or dreamtime level of those objects and the ecosystems they have been in or torn from.
I wish I live near sea or a river or just nature in General, living in a city often stresses me out, so I like to meditate with nature ambience, it always helps me.
The author Will Self talks about being by large bodies of water, especially the sea, as a way to help him switch off from the noise when he wants to go into writing mode.
Love this vid. So for me the alternative to painting would be songwriting or singing or just listening to music. Android sometimes I do target practice to unwind. It’s weird but works for me… I could never really get meditation to work but I still try to sometimes.
I played the water timeline several times just to detect british accent lol🤣 It didn't sound like RP accent, I am curious about your accent, what is it? It's so soothing😍
These lines from Keat's ode to a nightingale beautifully capture the plight of sensitive souls overwhelmed by the world and wanting to escape and feel nothing:- O for a beaker full of the warm South, Full of the true, the blushful Hippocrene, With beaded bubbles winking at the brim, And purple-stained mouth; That I might drink, and leave the world unseen, And with thee fade away into the forest dim: Fade far away, dissolve, and quite forget What thou among the leaves hast never known, The weariness, the fever, and the fret Here, where men sit and hear each other groan; Where palsy shakes a few, sad, last gray hairs, Where youth grows pale, and spectre-thin, and dies; Where but to think is to be full of sorrow And leaden-eyed despairs, Where Beauty cannot keep her lustrous eyes, Or new Love pine at them beyond to-morrow
I’ve been suicidal for a really long time and I’m still dealing with it but breathing helps me feel nothing ( if that makes any sense) idek why I’m even saying this But anyways hope y’all have a wonderful day
As usual loved the content!! Never tried the floating tanks but seems quite interesting. I’m also an over thinker so I’m quite curious to try that, I also live in London, do you recommend any place in particular? I have the same issues with meditating, takes quite a while to actually switch off. Being close to water really helps me too as I grew up close to the sea so it grounds me and always takes me back in time and helps me realize the simple things and where I came from. I love to dance or any type of exercise, it really relaxes me afterwards and I become quite zen 😅 lovely to see another video from you!
Thank you!! I would recommend Floatworks in London (there's quite a few different ones). If possible, I would recommend going first thing in the morning - the afternoon they're a bit too hot (more like a sauna than a floating tank)!

Now having experienced what it is like from both ends, I would take the relaxed state over the high revs -- even though my recall and thinking speed has declined considerably. It was hell for me.

Thank you so much for sharing these with us❤️ I discovered painting few months ago, (thank you, because you inspired me) and I am feeling so grateful for this, although I am not really good, I am enjoying sooo much. Keep on sharing your thoughts with us, I appreciate very much ❤️✨
Ah thank you for this comment! Love to hear you're enjoying painting!
You are too good and beautiful and talented keep it up
Im so intrigued by the "running out of things to think about" thing ... this seems impossible to me how can you run out of thought that's crazy
this was so calming
Ahh thank you!
Loved the video and congrats on moving, the new background looks amazing!
Ahh thank you Reeha!! ❤️
I wish I live near sea or a river or just nature in General, living in a city often stresses me out, so I like to meditate with nature ambience, it always helps me.
Same here >
The author Will Self talks about being by large bodies of water, especially the sea, as a way to help him switch off from the noise when he wants to go into writing mode.
Love this vid. So for me the alternative to painting would be songwriting or singing or just listening to music. Android sometimes I do target practice to unwind. It’s weird but works for me… I could never really get meditation to work but I still try to sometimes.
Is this your new flat? It’s lovely!
Thanks for the wonderful video.
Cool topic!
Have you tried guided meditation? Great for when you can’t switch the mind off
I played the water timeline several times just to detect british accent lol🤣
It didn't sound like RP accent, I am curious about your accent, what is it?
It's so soothing😍
Same condition happens with me as well
Isolation tanks sounds like foetus experience
YES
Great stuff!
I've only just got your thumbnail. Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil. Very nice XD
I love 'do nothing' days.
These lines from Keat's ode to a nightingale beautifully capture the plight of sensitive souls overwhelmed by the world and wanting to escape and feel nothing:-
O for a beaker full of the warm South,
Full of the true, the blushful Hippocrene,
With beaded bubbles winking at the brim,
And purple-stained mouth;
That I might drink, and leave the world unseen,
And with thee fade away into the forest dim:
Fade far away, dissolve, and quite forget
What thou among the leaves hast never known,
The weariness, the fever, and the fret
Here, where men sit and hear each other groan;
Where palsy shakes a few, sad, last gray hairs,
Where youth grows pale, and spectre-thin, and dies;
Where but to think is to be full of sorrow
And leaden-eyed despairs,
Where Beauty cannot keep her lustrous eyes,
Or new Love pine at them beyond to-morrow
I think we have the same brain 🤣 relate to everything in this video!!
Just feel free, your survival instincts are sufficient.....☺
You are soo lovely 💝💝
U r my favourite utuber 💛💛💛
AWH thank youuu!
Goodluck
Same it’s hard for me to turn off my non-thinking brain!
i need this video! I really need to stop and pause for a while! Let's see what are your suggestions!
I’ve been suicidal for a really long time and I’m still dealing with it but breathing helps me feel nothing ( if that makes any sense) idek why I’m even saying this
But anyways hope y’all have a wonderful day
My BFF is back 💜
❤️
Love the share very genuine
@@elizabethfilips thank you! Will definitely try! Cannot wait for your next video xxxx
Nice voice 😍
When I paint or simply play any video game I instantly forget where am I , what was I doing or who am I.
Nice vid thanks
Im watching you from Bangladesh 🇧🇩🥰💖

Nice plant
Thank you!

That intro tho 🔥
Ur editing and thumbnail seems to be getting better & creative by the day... 😊
Just a question...the thumbnail...u outsource or do it by urself?
Thank you so much! I do thumbnails myself, they're one of my favourite parts!
@@elizabethfilips That's great to know & Your most welcome! And yehhh...this could be a great future video for your subscribers who are or aspire to be RUclipsrs :)! So yehh...inspired by Ali's content and your decision (being an overthinker) to start a channel too...I'm also planning to upload my 1st video this week! Hope it goes well... 🙃
Didn't even know that those floatation chambers existed!
Good stuff!
