    This is a great video and I am following it step by step to do the same in my house. I noticed that you put the vinyl and baseboard down before you wired and tested the circuits. Would you recommend testing the circuits and tstat control first, before putting the vinyl floor down? Thanks!

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  3 года назад

      Using the meter on each mat ensures they aren’t damage and will work when connected. I was extremely careful when installing the baseboards so I was confident everything would be fine.

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  2 года назад

      If it feels warm, you have it up too high. It should just be comfortable for bare feet.

    Great video. I’m was thinking of installing electric radiant wiring under luxury vinyl planking in my basement after watching your video. After shopping around I noticed that the LVP manufacturers I was considering only warranty hydronic heating systems. Has your LVP been affected in anyway after 3 years of use with electric floor system?

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  2 месяца назад +1

      No, the Mannington floor was not affected at all. These thermostats have a max temperature setting so you can ensure the mats don’t get too hot for your flooring.
      I don’t know why they specify hydronic instead of a max temperature. Heat is heat.
      I suggest you talk to Thermosoft. They may be able to steer you away from brands that are known to have issues.

    Quick question l: what did you do with the ground wire coming from the panel? Did you just tuck it back in the box since there is no way to terminate it on the thermostat?

    • @handydadtv

      Yes. The ground isn’t used.

    • @AidanSkoyles
      @AidanSkoyles 3 года назад

      @@handydadtv yeah. My advice to anyone installing one of these is to hide it in a closet or cabinet because the CLICK is very loud. In reality you will set the schedule and not mess with it that often. It doesn't get used like a light switch and doesn't need to be as accessible.

    Is there any option to use a smart thermostat?

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  3 года назад

      These thermostats are WiFi connected and remotely accessible and programmable, but they’re not on the same level as Nest or ecobee. But they don’t need to be because a radiant floor is slow to heat up but stays warm longer. Very different than forced air.

  • @pedromonsivais866
    @pedromonsivais866 2 года назад

    What was the approximate cost for all the heat pads and the three thermostats that you used in this project?

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  2 года назад +1

      These mats cost around $11 per square foot. But you obviously don’t need to heat EVERY square foot of floor space so it’s important for you to create a custom plan. Thermosoft can help you do that. Link in description.

    Why are the heating mats so much???there’s not much to them, a fiber mat with a cord running through them it’s crazy expensive I need 500sf and 36sf is $400

    • @handydadtv
      @handydadtv  2 года назад

      It’s around $10/sf for underfloor heating. You could replace 5 furnaces or 3 boilers in your lifetime but underfloor heating only needs to be installed once. It’s a great value long term.
