Harrison, I found your videos right after I had ordered my CSP. It arrived this morning and I already had a list of things I was going to do to it - cleaning, de-burring, fixing common problems, etc. And, of course, mounting it on the stand I welded up yesterday. I'd already seen your (and other's) comments on how to set up bobbin timing, so that was already correct. It enjoyed a good meal of thread-ghetti. Jump ahead to this video. I remembered seeing someone mention setting the needle height, at bottom-of-travel, so that you can just feel the tip of the needle at the bottom of the arm. I'm glad to report success! Thanks for all the videos you've done about these machines. You make it easy to get comfortable with this new/old machine.
I have been doing try and error for the last two weeks making this work and surrendered 3x already. Still I keep coming back to it. This last video of yours solved my problem. Thank you thank you very very much for your tutorial video. I am sure a lot of us are happy now. 👍🤝👏😀
This was so helpful, thank you sir! My bar was recessed about 1/8" inside and after I moved it out, it worked perfectly. A bit of the bar was sticking out behind the left side of the crank wheel, and a little nudge to the left after loosening the nuts did the trick. Thanks for all your helpful videos, by the way.
Great videos! You gave me a lot of things to check to make sure my machine is running properly, but I'm still having trouble. I can get the bobbin to make the first loop but when I start to sew, everything goes downhill. Something causes a bind and the machine locks up. Thin or thick material. I made sure to check the bobbin spool out direction, drive rod depth, needle orientation (I did have that wrong), bobbin carrier timing, gear bar timing and my crankshaft channels. The very first stitch in material locks up the machine and I have to force it and cut the work out. What could be going on?
I’ve watched this video a couple of times as well as a couple other of your videos, I’m not having any luck at all getting my bobbin to feed. I got my machine, barely used, and it was working when I took it home and was working until I tried to change the thread
You did it, my drive rod was low (so needle went too far down). Once adjusted, it’s working like a charm! Both the “bobbin thread” videos are fantastic!!!
This was helpful, now my machine can actually sew. Your video that where you talked about the relationship between the bobbin carrier and the needle was where the breakthrough happened. Appreciate you taking the time to share, thanks.
Good afternoon. I’m having problems with my bobbin picking up the thread. I looked at the timing. Ok. Reset my bobbin in the shuttle and made sue everything lined up properly. When I crank, and make a rotation the needle thread looks like I picked up the thread, but when I pull it back up, there looks to be a loop. But nothing else pulls up to nothing.
Right, the needle should pull up a loop from the bobbin thread. When you pull on that loop it should pull the bobbin thread through the hole on the top cover plate.
Hi Harrison, You're the best guy on earth. Every configuration issue I had was placed between the chair and the table ;-). Thanks for Your videos. best regards Ralph
So far, I have had to work on every surface of this patcher. I think it would have been easier if they would have just thrown the parts in a buck and sent to me. At least I would not have had taken it all apart to do all the cleanup and buffing, grinding oiling and greasing. I guess that just sending us parts kind of what they did, it looks like it was a group of 6-year-old kids that puts these things together wherever these things are made. Thinks for shining light on how to make them work. You da man!
U are just simply amazing! Do u know why? It's because u make it look easy by finding actual ways to make ur explanations direct, that is, no guessing or messing around. Tnks a lot & keep up d good work.
I cannot figure mine out. It won’t pick up the bobbin thread but the machine also tears and shreds the top thread EVERY SINGLE TIME. I’ve even came to the point in my craft that I’m ready to throw this dang thing in the trash and come out of pocket for a sewing machine, just don’t want to come off of $3k
HI Harrison, thanks for your commitment with these machines. I'm taking notes. I see one area that should be addressed. On the backside of the machine on the shaft there are two cams. I saw in one of your videos you recommended marking them if you wished to remove them. Great idea. How about how they time to the shaft as a group? I mean they need to be placed on the shaft correctly in relation to the pin that syncs the leading plate. Thanks
Hello. . I have the shoe cobbler. I would like to use a thicker thread. Something with more body. Also, maybe a dumb question...can waxed thread be used. You have been a great help. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Wax thread is not recommended, but I have used it in the past with no issues. If you want to move up to bigger thread you will need to buy some larger needles. HAx1 is what you need to look for
The size I mentioned above is the needle shank size. (HAx1) They have sizes 14-22 for the needle point. What kind of leather crafting/sewing are you going to be doing? That way I can let you know what I would use
I've come close to pulling my hair out trying to figure out how far that rod was supposed to come out passed the end of the machine. Then you make it look that easy. I hope it took you trial and error to get it done.
The bobbin thread will bird nest if there is no tension. There are other issues that can cause that to happen like, bad timing, needle depth, and a sharp bur in the eye of the needle. I would check those out first
Where can I get an extra needle lug. My machine has a lug but the hole is way off center with a very thin wall remaining on one side. Eventually it will crack. Thank you for all your information. Your channel is invaluable and the reason I purchased this sewing machine. Thanks again. Marc
I have watched all of your video for this machine and im having trouble with the bobbin catching on. Sometimes it catches on then it jam then sometimes it just don't catch on at all . What do am I doing wrong ?
Hi, thank you for the great tutorial, my machine is either skipping a stitch and or not tightening the stitch and leaving a loop sticking out, wandering what to do
Mainely Acres hi the loop was in the top but looking at all your tutorials , I realized I needed to make a vertical thread spool dispenser since that I have no issues, thank you very much
You can order a tension clip for your bobbin holder at: www.bantamsaddletack.com/Spare-tension-clip-screw-for-Patcher-Sewing-Machine-shuttle-hook_p_52.html
The cams on the backside of your machine are set differently than the cams on my machine. Are these settings critical or are they different on each machine? Also, could you show in one of your videos how these cams should be set to work properly?
I am not sure... I know there are different manufactures that make these, but I think the workings are all the same. I figured where my machine was working as it should I would share how the cams are set up on my machine in case someone had any issues. So in short if your machine is working I would not mess with the cam set up, but if its not working I would try setting up the cams like my machine. I will make a video on the cams and how they function. Thanks for the comment!!
Having trouble with top thread has loose thread Bottom bobbin thread looks perfect I’m not too sure if it the tension or what. Please help mainly acres thank you
General rule in sewing is if the mess is on top of your project the bobbin tension needs to be adjusted tighter, but if the mess is on the bottom of your project the top tension needs to be tighter. since your missing the tension spring on your bobbin holder you will not be able to tighten it down until you fix it.
This helped me to get my bobber thread to finally come up and do what it’s supposed to do, so a big thank you for that. However, now my thread from the needle keeps breaking every time I try to stitch? Soooo frustrating! When the needle goes down the crank gets really tough and it just breaks the string. Any help???
I appreciate your videos. I’ve been having a problem with the bottom thread not making a clean stitch- the thread is overlapping, bulky, and lose. Also sometimes the hand crank is hard to turn, and it seems to happen the bottom thread is messed up. Also sometimes i cant pull the bottom thread through the bobbin hole.
Hi there, I just left a comment on your previous video and followed these instructions, adjusting the height of the needle shaft which was the only adjustment needed per your instructions. Still doesn’t pick up the bobbin thread unfortunately. Ideas?
You stumped me on this one. I just watched both videos I put out on this problem and I can not think of any other issues that would cause the needle to not pick up the bobbin thread. I hope you don't take offense to this, but I would rewatch the videos and double check your machine just to make sure I didn't cover it already.
So my upper thread keeps breaking on the first stitch. After watching my thread it looks like my thread is jumping to the outside of my bobbin carrier then getting gummed up and snapping. Any ideas?
I have probably new issue where I would like to ask for help. I set up everything in timing correctly, but top thread keep on breaking. I made an inspection and what i discovered is that the hook on the bobbin actualy goes through the thread, and cause the whole machine to stiffen (thread cannot leave the hook and stays locked between the parts) until the top thread breaks. Have you come across this problem and do you have any idea how to solve it? thanks:-)
Found the problem. it is a combination of really sharp bobbin hook (bad idea, need to be dull) and needle being to high. In this case i was able to get through thread in every case. after dulling the bobbin hook and adjusting the needle is the machine finaly working!!!:-)
Harrison , got the thread and needles you recommended, but still having issues, do you have an email that I can send some pics , and have more of a chat on, rather than RUclips?
Thanks for the video! I had been using my machine successfully for a couple of days - repairing a friend's badly damaged leather jacket (motorcycle accident). Everything was going great (beginner's luck??) and then for some reason it started to break the top thread. I watched all your videos and was thinking about trying to adjust the cams and the pitman timing and then I tried adjusting the needle bar down to touch my fingertip. It had to move about 1/8 inch down but that seems to have done the trick and it's back to sewing properly. Strange that the needle bar had moved? Is that possible?
So I’ve timed my bobbin at 12 and 3 o’clock, I’ve adjusted the needle driver 1/4 down, the rod at the bottom comes flush at 3 but still not grabbing?! I’ve been using this machine for a few month and all the sudden it’s not grabbing
Hello fellow Mainah! Looking for a simple sewing for a guy whose never seen in his life! I want to make leather & waxed canvas tool roll ups & aprons. Is this the machine for me? Amazon ok place to pick one up? Thank u Wilbur on the coast....
This machine would be great for sewing leather/waxed canvas tool roll ups!! I only have two questions to ask... Are you mechanically inclined? Do you have some free time to fine tune your machine when it arrives? If yes to those question, this machine would be a perfect fit for your needs!! Yes, Amazon is fine but expect a very rough machine to arrive.
Thank you for your comment!! Sounds like this machine would be perfect for you then. If you order one and it gives you a headache you can always bring it by and I can help you get it up and running. Searsport is just a few minutes away from us.
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks how bout I send u a postal money order(cost of machine+)& you order the me machine... then I pay you to dialer in & tune er up. Then I'd meet u somewhere down ur way to pick it up pay u balance & give u a tip... if ur interested gimme a reply also I know farm life gets busier as the weather gets better so if it has to wait till after the busy season that's no problem. Thank either way in advance. Wilbur from Belfast
Good morning. I have watched all of your videos, several times. My needle will not pick up the bobbin thread. The sewing thread will break every time. I have taken the bobbin out several times. I don’t know what I am doing wrong.
Have you seen these three videos: ruclips.net/video/GuWxdsxmX_c/видео.html ruclips.net/video/YjdcY2ppxxM/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/VagtDdcenwI/видео.html If you have and your still having issues I will need to meet up with you via video chat.
No offense. We did it several times. Watched another guys video and I think we will try turning the geared part that holds the bobbim case by one hear increments and see if that helps. Tomorrow cause we are kinda frustrated. Will let you know. Thanks.
I enjoyed the video. Yet, I'm still frustrated like you. I will try to use the proper terms. I made sure the crank nob is at 12 o'clock, and made sure the bobbin holder's back wall is facing right. I put the bobbin thread through the first hole closest to the spring. I pulled the thread through the top hole that is lined up with the bottom hole. I got the thread behind the spread. I tested the bobbin shuttle and the end of that bobbin gear is flush with that hole on the left of the bobbin shuttle when the crack nob is at 3 o'clock. That vertical thread shaft top is at 1/4 inch protruding out the top. I sanded all the bobbins, bobbin holder, and shuttle area. On the hand crank, I made sure bobbin shuttle notch is in the middle grove, and the other gear notch is in the outer grove. I made sure that little notch in the middle is lined up with that small notch on the hand crank. So here is what happens when I crank the machine to pick up the bobbin thread. The bobbin thread is not moving so the needle could pick it up. So I removed the bobbin cover and test cracked it. The bobbin is moving properly. I put the cover back on and held the bobbin with a little tension. The thread is moving but still not picking up. I'm clueless.

hey, just got the Huanglong machine set up, using your vids....awesome! watched both your vids on the bobbin not picking up and still can't get my 1mm waxed thread to pick up, it just jams up. lubed up well ,even reamed out the needle hole tad...kinda bummin' 2 days not one stitch.
Hey Mr. Howell, I have three videos on that topic: ruclips.net/video/GuWxdsxmX_c/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/YjdcY2ppxxM/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/VagtDdcenwI/видео.html. What size needle are you using? It's pretty tricky getting waxed thread to run in these machines, normally I wouldn't suggest running waxed thread in the bobbin.
Harrison, thanks for getting back to me ,really appreciate it. Yep, kinda noticed that! tight and sticky with a #16 needle. What thread would you suggest for bobbin thread ....I'd really like to use the waxed thread on my projects.
I would use a 22/140 needle with a T-135 thread combo for the heavy leather. The T-135 I use is a bonded nylon that the military uses on combat boots and other heavy duty applications. That stuff is very strong!! The reason the waxed thread is not a good idea to run on these machines is that the wax gets stripped off the thread after passing through the tension disks and the tension spring on the bobbin shuttle and like you said it creates a big mess. The needle you're trying to use is way to small as well. Check out this chart I have found it very helpful when deciding what needle/thread comb to use. www.thethreadexchange.com/miva/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=needles_thread_size_chart. You can always add wax to the threads after sewing to make the moccasins a bit more watertight.
What kind/size thread are you using? When to say "get the knot the string rips apart" are you talking about the lock stitch or just trying to pick up the bobbin thread?
Hello my machine is still not picking up the bobbin thread and the top thread is getting thrashed and snapping

Right, the needle should pull up a loop from the bobbin thread. When you pull on that loop it should pull the bobbin thread through the hole on the top cover plate.

How would this machine be for making knife sheaths? Can you use a really large thread?
This machine would be perfect for making knife sheaths, The largest size thread I have used is a T-135.
Do i need to get a new machine if the bearing of the bobbin gear pops? Or can i replace the bearing?
I think you can buy the bearing, if not you can buy the whole pittman rod assembly from Bantam Saddle Tack.
I need to know, why should I put my thread in the bobbin spring? It seems to keep the thread too tight and it breaks after the first rotation.
The bobbin thread will bird nest if there is no tension. There are other issues that can cause that to happen like, bad timing, needle depth, and a sharp bur in the eye of the needle. I would check those out first

I will need to see what's going on
Thanks for the video!
Yes, I have seen the needle bar move on many machines. Some lock tight should fix that issue.
So I’ve timed my bobbin at 12 and 3 o’clock, I’ve adjusted the needle driver 1/4 down, the rod at the bottom comes flush at 3 but still not grabbing?! I’ve been using this machine for a few month and all the sudden it’s not grabbing
I think my new video will help out: ruclips.net/video/XJAhqb9tNpc/видео.html

Used a dremil to make bobbon well bigger, kept pinching and breaking the thread
Hey! No of these is helping me with my machine. Any ideas what else it could be?
What's the main issue your having?
My top tread gets stuck in the bobbin spring...
Wow, that's the first time I have heard of that happening. I would need to see pictures to know what's going on.
Good morning. I have watched all of your videos, several times. My needle will not pick up the bobbin thread. The sewing thread will break every time. I have taken the bobbin out several times. I don’t know what I am doing wrong.
Have you seen these three videos: ruclips.net/video/GuWxdsxmX_c/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/YjdcY2ppxxM/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/VagtDdcenwI/видео.html
If you have and your still having issues I will need to meet up with you via video chat.
Thank u for your videos, they r very helpful
again looks helpful
No offense. We did it several times. Watched another guys video and I think we will try turning the geared part that holds the bobbim case by one hear increments and see if that helps. Tomorrow cause we are kinda frustrated. Will let you know. Thanks.
By one spoke increments that is.
Best of luck to you, I am sorry I couldn't be more of a help.
Picked up my thread, but is not locking my stitches

Thank you for your comment!!
hey, just got the Huanglong machine set up, using your vids....awesome! watched both your vids on the bobbin not picking up and still can't get my 1mm waxed thread to pick up, it just jams up. lubed up well ,even reamed out the needle hole tad...kinda bummin' 2 days not one stitch.
Hey Mr. Howell,
I have three videos on that topic: ruclips.net/video/GuWxdsxmX_c/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/YjdcY2ppxxM/видео.html, ruclips.net/video/VagtDdcenwI/видео.html.
Specifically , what heavy thread do you recommend? Working on some heavy leather moccasins.
Waxed thread is really meant to be used for hand stitching.
Need help please

If you see this message can you please help me out
What's going on?
Whenever I thread my machine and then try and get the not the string always rips apart. Any tips ?
What kind/size thread are you using? When to say "get the knot the string rips apart" are you talking about the lock stitch or just trying to pick up the bobbin thread?
Is there anyway you can video chat so you can help me out that way cuz I don’t really know the parts to this machine
Yes, I can help via video chat but I charge 25$ per session. If your interested here's my papal link: www.paypal.com/paypalme2/mainelyacresfarm
