I just got my machine yesterday. all I have done so far is adjust bobbin and thread it and sew scraps. This thing is really impressive. I am going to love this machine
Just ordered the Fam-yun machine 2days ago @$135; same vendor’s machine TODAY is $10 more(!). Tho there’s a dozen+ vendors on Amazon, it *appears to be the same machine, rebranded and at wildly-various price-points- like always on Amz. It’ll be interesting...... I’ve ordered leather needles in two sizes and two size threads today. Binging on all YT videos today so I can hit the ground running (whenever it’s delivered). Note: you’ll see there’s a list of ToDos before sewing *anything! Make sure to get chisel-pointed (cutting) or “lens-shaped” needles for leather, appropriate threads, and adjust the stitches/inch according to your use; there IS a learning curve.
Spider Wire fishing line is a super strong thread, it comes in different pound test and thickness, I wonder if it would work in this machine? I use it to repair shoes and coats, and my nail bags, but so far just hand stitch with an awl or a needle and pliers. It's made to survive salt water and wet storage and its pretty abrasion resistant. I cut it with sharp scissors or melt it with a lighter. I used to repair my nail bags with waxed thread, but the leather outlasts the thread and they had to be repaired every several years. If you try it I would be interested in knowing what needle size fits the best pound test. Good video, thank you.
Thanks for the video. I need HELP! My walking foot doesn't walk. The upside down U shaped piece barely moves left and right. So I followed that part to the other end, to the base. That arm has very little space from the end to the base. Also, one of those rotating levers at the base doesn't even press against that arm which is part of the U shaped piece. It's like the machine is damaged or I put it together wrong. Are both of these levers supposed to touch a metal arm?
A good machine, and good tips videos from Mainly Acres. A word of caution, though. It seems many machines run great right out of the box. The machine I got needed a good cleaning (of course), but it also needed a lot of file and stone work to get it to run smoothly. If you aren't mechanically inclined then you may need help with your particular machine. It does stitch really well, and it will handle surprisingly thick and heavy fabrics and leathers. A good buy if you want to invest some elbow grease.
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks could you please advise whether this machine does regular fabric sewing? Is it straight stitch only or can it do zig zag too? Thank you!

@@joyrc6652 ordered it about three years ago from Amazon. You will need to do a few mods to it, they are rough as is, but for leather work well worth the price and time
Where is this Machine from or Made. Cause I remember vaguely somebody mentioning it was as little as $80-100 on Amazon. There's no difference in the marked up price ones at $195, maybe just paint work and partially ready assembled. And I was told also when assembling the Bobbin needs to be Synchronized to lace the Needle thread inorder to complete the stitch and it'd be Rock 'n' RoLL thereafter.
Most of these machines are made in China unless you order from Vipkey. Here's my recommendation for people thinking about ordering one of these machines... If you want a machine that is guaranteed to sew out of the box you should order from Bantam Saddle Tack. I have been looking at these sewing machines. I did a search on AliExpress, and found there are 3 models. SL-26, SL-27, and SL-28. The brand I found on there is Vipkey. My question is the model you show is the SL-26. The other 2 models seem to be a more heavy duty model. Have you seen the other models? Any experience? Please check it out. Tell me what you think.
I took a look at the Vipkey SL 28 via the link you sent. It seems like the major difference between the SL 26 and SL 28 is the SL 28 has the roller wheel to help with sewing the sole onto shoes. I have never used any of these other models, but they look to have the same main design. If you’re in the business of resoling shoes then the SL 28 would be the machine I would buy, but if you wanted a general sewing machine for sewing patches or knife sheaths then I would go with the SL 27.
It seems like the SL 26 and the SL 28 are mainly for sewing shoes. The Sl 28 is used for resoling and the SL 26 is for sewing the edges. The model I have is similar to the SL 27 which is a general sewing machine used for all kinds of projects.
The SL-28 would seem the best choice if the price is close. Because you can just remove the guide wheel. Other vids on these machines seem to indicate that you would want to make a sturdier base/stand. But both pix from Ali show either tripod or electrified stand that are not listed as part of the package. Optionals ?
I have one of these machines on order now. I am very interested in sandals. What does it mean when you say you "pretched" the edges of the tire? How did you do it? I had considered a tire re grooving tool but very smelly stuff. Best regards, Mike
I used a razor and flat file to thin up the edges a bit and to remove part of the tread. That way my presser foot would fit all the way around the tire.
For demo purposes, high contrast color thread would be nice. ie. white or the orange you show in the background. Also, my experience has shown that it is better to use a much longer stitch length which adjustable on that machine.

looks like we need to come up with a oil bowl attachment or a wax bowl my cousins german machine has a bowl with a sponge that has a guide to coat the thread we used olive oil it worked well but under the bowl is a spot for a burner or tealight candle if you wanted to use wax
I had a shoemakers sewing machine, a Landis. I used to say it could sew a car fender back on. It had a heated pot below the flat bed that melted the wax it applied to the thread passing through. But it chain stitched, no bobbin as I recall, so you sew with only one thread. Sewing with a bobbin(two threads) would mean only one of the threads would be oiled/waxed, unless you had a heated tub for each.
@@CandC68 unless you had a heated tub for each.......you need to see how a lock stitch bobbin works and you will see why I laughed so hard when I read that LOL there is no room also you only need to wax the top thread to stop the needle heating up and sticking in the leather if you sew with a big needle at a fast pace they can get really hot from friction

Hi there ive been considering purchasing one of these machines for hobby leatherwork and outdoor gear repair, etc. your videos are an immensely helpful resource so thanks for the content! Question for ya: have you ever attempted stitching a embroidered or leather patch to the front panel of a standard cap/hat? Looks like penetration will be fine but im wondering if its realistic to keep a straight stitch within the merrowed border of a rectangle patch and if the machine foot can be maneuvred well from within the hat and with the awkwardness of a stiff bill? Thanks in advance for any insights.
I have not sewn any patches to hat or clothing, but I have a friend that does. He has the same sewing machine and he sews embroidered patches on high end shoes. The swivel head on these machines makes sewing around patches a breeze.
Here is a link to where I order my needles: www.ebay.com/itm/Household-HAx1-15x1-Machine-Sewing-Needles-Flat-Shank-Universal-10-sizes-10-40pc/323788439955?
Watch as many videos on RUclips as you can stands. Lol. Also this model of machine can be purchased from eBay or Amazon for about 100$ yup got me one on the way!!!
Do the needles come with this machine , or does one purchase separate and where, on line or at a particular needle, sewing outlet ? I’m from Canada 🇨🇦 and would like one . Thanks

Thanks! Been catching more videos of yours on this machine in my youtube feed than I thought were in the playlist. Will search and make sure I catch them all!
I ordered some at the end on Nov last year and still ain't got them their coming from tw I think ..... But it's been 2 months now, think they was delayed from snow ?but the delivery day said 19th of Jan now it's saying unconfirmed
Mainely Acres they finally got here .... Got a question will the right size needle sew through the heal of the shoe? A nike shoe the hard part it might be plastic or hard card board
One other vid mentioned the bobbin winder didn't get good traction with the big hand wheel. He put something on it. Maybe cut a 1" wide section from an inner tube and stretch it onto the hand wheel.
Hi There Thanks heaps for the videos, theyve really helped me out a lot but i'm missing something and i'm hoping you can point me in the right direction Following your videos, i place the bobbin, thread the needle and do a single rotation of the crank which lowers the needle and picks up the bobbin thread - everything looks like its fine at this stage... With or without material, on the 2nd crank the needle goes down, the needle thread wraps around the bobbin and snaps, the needle comes up, i say rude words :) I know thats very little to go on but is it likely to be the timing or top/bottom tension?
I am not sure what the issue is, but here are a few things to try: After threading your bobbin shuttle pull the thread tail and see if it's pulling smoothly and evenly. If it is, try to match that same tension with the top thread and sew a couple stitches. If you still having that issue it will be a timing problem. Let me know what you find out
Hey guy what video editing software do yall use? I was using the youtube video creator and now the stop having it and now Im lost on what to do. Please help thanks LOL God Bless
The only reason I use it is that it was already installed a machine I was given. The program costs a few hundred dollars so I am not recommending it, just letting you know what we use.
I am not sure why they did that or why they are changing the layout, but it's hard for this old dog to learn these new tricks. LOL I came into RUclips using XP, now I am upgraded to the latest and greatest with no idea how to keep up. I will ask around and see what I can find out. Talk to ya soon
I bought one of these. They work fine BUT...the bobbin is way to small. I ran a belt through using button hole thread and one bobbin worked for the belt. When I switched to T90 thread to get a better thread appearance the bobbin ran out 2/3 of the way through. I didn't catch it right away and had to try to match up 30 holes in the belt to finish it. Lost a lot of time on this. Once you punch leather you have to hit the holes exactly to fix errors. That said, it's a great machine for small projects with shorter stitch runs.
I did not lock the stitches because I was just showing how thick of material these machines can handle. All you need to do is go forward two stitches and then back two to lock everything in.
Thanks so much for your sewing machine videos. These helped me decide to buy the machine. Here's my question. I'd like to sew leather with Bonded Nylon Sewing Thread Size T210 #207, average sized thread good for vegetable tan leather on saddles. Do you know what size needle to use with a big enough eye hole to work? I know to use 15X1 HAX1. Big thanks!
Now that's some thick thread, I would go with a 23/160 or a 25/200. I know that the 23/160 will run on these machines, but the 25/200 is uncharted territory for me.
Thanks a ton. I chatted with Bantam and they said stick with 140/22 and 138 thread without mods. I'm trying to do saddle work. I enjoy your videos. After forever, I just signed in to RUclips so I could subscribe/comment. Have a good Saturday.
Of all of the machines that I have seen on Amazon, and read the reviews. A couple of the sellers have fair to good customer service and support and some don’t. My question is which of the sellers would
I just bought a machine from Amazon. Looked for a good reseller. Can't promise, but it came packed well after only 5 days, Amazon free return, ball bearings (not all have), painted green, no rust, nothing broken/missing, reviews from knowledgeable users mechanically good... Having said that, it's now cleaned of oil and we still have to look for burrs to file, adjustments. Looking very hopeful! Read reviews if you go Amazon route!
Hey Mainely if ya use just common tap water it is a good lube for sewing RUBBER and will prevent galling of the rubber to the needle. There are special needle points for sewing rubber available in Class 15 these machines use. CMVHighPriest
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks Wet rubber is why folks get more flat tires when it rains. I worked in a tire shop for years. I once had someone bring in a flat tire. It ran over a pair of pliers, that pierced the tire. Pliers aren't very sharp.
I did a review video on where I bought this machine: ruclips.net/video/5RxL_K4pNDA/видео.html. Bantam Saddle tack: www.bantamsaddletack.com/Sewing-Machinery_c_20.html
Its sad they put the price up to $160. To 200. On the same machine in the last month .I got one on line for 119. A month ago .Tarrifs not sure . They work nice with tlc with a file and good cleaning .
There was a successful RUclips creator that made a video on these machines and the prices started to rise overnight. I don't think the tariff's are responsible for the rise because I can still bulk order these machines for cheap.
If you asking why I didn't show it in this video, that's because it adds time to my videos and I am trying to shorten them up. I have a whole separate video on setting up these machines with includes threading: ruclips.net/video/tWgxzSCZxrQ/видео.html

The 270 thread is too thick for these machines. I would recommend a 207 on a 22 size needle. You might be able to run the larger thread, but you will need to make some mods.

Does this machine only sew one length stitch or can it be adjusted?
It can be adjusted
Great video, lots of good information. Thanks!
Thank you for stopping by!! 👍👊
When you say 130/21 needle, what system do you mean? Are those upholstery needles like Sailrite Ultrafeed is using? These are 137x17 system. (Max size shown is #23.)Or are these HAx1 needles (same as 15x1 or 130/705H)? Are these diamond shaped leather needles or just regular needles? What do you put in search engine when you are looking for those needles? Thanks.
They are a HAx1 needle and they have a universal tip. I searched under HAx1 needles.
Here is a link for some needles coming from Hong Kong: www.ebay.com/itm/Household-Machine-Sewing-Needles-HAx1-130-70SH-15x1-Flat-Shank-10-size-options/262773706187?hash=item3d2e888dcb%3Am%3Amq3WcCjQhSaGmYEAZhp6cLQ&var=561748364047
The swivel head on these machines makes sewing around patches a breeze.
where can we buy this machine from?
What needle to use for leather and where to get them?
Here is a link to where I order my needles: www.ebay.com/itm/Household-HAx1-15x1-Machine-Sewing-Needles-Flat-Shank-Universal-10-sizes-10-40pc/323788439955?
Watch as many videos on RUclips as you can stands. Lol. Also this model of machine can be purchased from eBay or Amazon for about 100$ yup got me one on the way!!!
Can you sew normal fabric with this machine?
Yes
Help, I have reached a point of frustration. My machine doesn't sew and it is also popping the thread. Any ideas?
Hello sir my thread is broken how can I do please help me sir
Do the needles come with this machine , or does one purchase separate and where, on line or at a particular needle, sewing outlet ? I’m from Canada 🇨🇦 and would like one . Thanks
Typically these machines come with needles and like Johnny said they are the 15X1 or HAX1 needle shank.
The tread brake's at needle after three Rev s.
This video should help you out with that issue: ruclips.net/video/XJAhqb9tNpc/видео.html
I am looking for a leather sewing machine light and heavy duty. But I am new to the leather works. Is this machine good for someone starting off fresh.
Yes, it is!!
Mine just came today and I cant wait to try and build it. Gonna be fun trying to figure it out. But should be easy
Tengo una maquina igual y no la puedo hacer trabajar me podría decir como desde un principio
how can i order one ?
Preparing myself to tune up and try out my machine. Thank you so much for your helpful videos! Are there other sources of leather, vinyls, ... I wss surprised to hear Tandy Leather is in business still, any competitors I should check out? I know of big duck canvas from a slipcover maker.
I hit up Tandy when they have sales and use Moscow Hide and Fur for my leather needs. Plus, MHaF sells raw hides if your into tanning.
Thanks! Been catching more videos of yours on this machine in my youtube feed than I thought were in the playlist. Will search and make sure I catch them all!
Thank you for the support!!
Great tutorial, thankyou for pushing it to the limit for us 😊
Thank you for commenting!!

Hope you show us your sandals thats the first project Ill do.. hav a tire Im eying now !
I will do!! Thanks for stopping by
Could you show how to fit that machine onto tables.tq
Sure thing!!
How long did it take for your sewing needles to come ?
About three weeks, that's because I ordered them from Singapore or Hong Kong.
I ordered some at the end on Nov last year and still ain't got them their coming from tw I think ..... But it's been 2 months now, think they was delayed from snow ?but the delivery day said 19th of Jan now it's saying unconfirmed
I would try to contact them to find out whats going on, that a crazy long time to wait for those needles.
Mainely Acres they finally got here .... Got a question will the right size needle sew through the heal of the shoe? A nike shoe the hard part it might be plastic or hard card board
I not sure if any needle set up on this machine will sew through the heel of a shoe... How thick is the heel?
will it do a longer stitch length? I could hardly see it with the dark thread. maybe next time use a contrasting color for your video?
Where to buy?

One other vid mentioned the bobbin winder didn't get good traction with the big hand wheel. He put something on it. Maybe cut a 1" wide section from an inner tube and stretch it onto the hand wheel.
That sounds like a solid idea!! The rubber wheel that on the bobbin winder does not have very good grip.
I had same problem. I rubber cemented a strip of sandpaper to the circumference of the hand-wheel and it worked perfect.
Hi There
Thanks heaps for the videos, theyve really helped me out a lot but i'm missing something and i'm hoping you can point me in the right direction
Following your videos, i place the bobbin, thread the needle and do a single rotation of the crank which lowers the needle and picks up the bobbin thread
- everything looks like its fine at this stage...
With or without material, on the 2nd crank the needle goes down, the needle thread wraps around the bobbin and snaps, the needle comes up, i say rude words :)
I know thats very little to go on but is it likely to be the timing or top/bottom tension?
I am not sure what the issue is, but here are a few things to try: After threading your bobbin shuttle pull the thread tail and see if it's pulling smoothly and evenly. If it is, try to match that same tension with the top thread and sew a couple stitches. If you still having that issue it will be a timing problem. Let me know what you find out
Where do I get one a&s saddle repair
Amazon, eBay, or my favorite Bantam Saddle Tack
Hey guy what video editing software do yall use? I was using the youtube video creator and now the stop having it and now Im lost on what to do. Please help thanks LOL God Bless
I use Sony Vegas pro 12.0
The only reason I use it is that it was already installed a machine I was given. The program costs a few hundred dollars so I am not recommending it, just letting you know what we use.
I have to find something I wonder why RUclips did away with their editor
So you make your video and put it all together with your software then download finished video to utube
ran a belt through using button hole thread and one bobbin worked for
the belt. When I switched to T90 thread to get a better thread
appearance the bobbin ran out 2/3 of the way through. I didn't catch it
right away and had to try to match up 30 holes in the belt to finish it.
Lost a lot of time on this. Once you punch leather you have to hit the
holes exactly to fix errors. That said, it's a great machine for small
projects with shorter stitch runs.
I think there are a few folks working on that issue. I will post a video when they figure it out
Have you sewed 9oz veg tan leather?
Yes
Where is the lock stitch?
Thank you for your comments and best of luck with your project!!

Also go to Tandy leather .com if necessary.
They have the chisel tip needles for leather.
Of all of the machines that I have seen on Amazon, and read the reviews. A couple of the sellers have fair to good customer service and support and some don’t. My question is which of the sellers would
To continue my question. Which of the sellers would you suggest purchasing from?
Or does anyone else have a suggestion?
I bought my machine from a US company called Bantam Saddle tack. Here is a review video I did: ruclips.net/video/5RxL_K4pNDA/видео.html
Thanks for the tip!! I used wax on the thread and it seems to help out a lot, but I will give the water a try.😀
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks Wet rubber is why folks get more flat tires when it rains. I worked in a tire shop for years. I once had someone bring in a flat tire. It ran over a pair of pliers, that pierced the tire. Pliers aren't very sharp.
what machine?!
This Chinese sewing Machine!?
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks no model? where did you get it? no name? ?????
I did a review video on where I bought this machine: ruclips.net/video/5RxL_K4pNDA/видео.html. Bantam Saddle tack: www.bantamsaddletack.com/Sewing-Machinery_c_20.html
Thought you were going to go through the actual tread, made me wince a little.
I wanted too, but the machine had other ideas. LOL
I just bought one off Amazon for $105.00 with free shipping.....
Good deal!! Thanks for sharing
Same bady now where I can bay this machine o nomber
Harga nya berapa ya?
www.bantamsaddletack.com/Hand-Crank-Patcher-Sewing-Machine-Deluxe-Package_p_39.html
R S
Got mine two or three days ago for about 118. Also after my purchase saw pine for 58. Gotta shop around.
Price goes up and down. Watch. Wait.
SUPER SWAMPERS
I was hoping to see you re-thread the machine but you skipped it. Go back an show that part as well, Thanks, Tim
If you asking why I didn't show it in this video, that's because it adds time to my videos and I am trying to shorten them up. I have a whole separate video on setting up these machines with includes threading: ruclips.net/video/tWgxzSCZxrQ/видео.html
How big of a tire :)
Standard car tire
Hey I bought this sewing machine and tryin to get it going, I'm new at this trying to do some leather work, I have 270 thread and I've tried 18-24 needles and I keep breaking needles and cant get it to sew, any suggestions?!?! Thanks again for the vids
The 270 thread is too thick for these machines. I would recommend a 207 on a 22 size needle. You might be able to run the larger thread, but you will need to make some mods.
@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks thanks I appreciate you getting back to me
Prices on these must fluctuate like crazy - everyone says they paid a hundred or 125 and I see $149 on most of them.
Yes, they are all over the place
From what I've seen it depends on the bearings and brand. Some are $90 and go up to $150
Tire tread sandals mon!!!
100%
Where can I buy this the cheapest

Only 120.00 on Amazon delivered in 1 day
Found for $130.00 on 5-19-19... Nope just got one $126.00 + free shipping !
I'll be doing a teardown polishing and painting. Even I need to do some welding drilling I think it's a great deal ! I'll have this setup so it can be seen. If it works it's a steal, never mind its appearance.
@@moonolyth Yep! Mine just arrived and it works fine, but I'm going to make some modifications to it. If you can get it under the foot, with a good needle, it can sew it. -Stelios
Where did you find one at this price ? Been looking around without any luck. Tks

Not a machine for any production sewing.
It is when you attach a servo motor!!

its a copy of a singer machine
