- In this cake decorating tutorial I show you how I made this 3 ingredient Linear Sugar Sail Cake. I also show you how I made the marbled buttercream using acetate sheets. I added some silk flowers, meringues and fresh raspberries. I have done Isomalt Sails before, but this time I wanted to show you how to make them using only 3 ingredients that you should already have in your pantry, and it is so simple to make! I hope you enjoy!!

Hello and welcome to both of you:)
@@sophisticakesbymary thanx for the beautiful cake, ❣️❣️
Hola seria muy bonito que el video sea traducido al español please 🙏. Very very beautifull your cake and técnicas
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻💗
So beautiful.
I noticed the pitting which I haven’t seen on any of your other applications with acetate. How did you avoid it on your other cakes?
Mind you I think the putting added to the look of natural stone.
A really beautiful cake. ❤️
My best guess would be that there were some bubbles in this buttercream that developed over time when the buttercrram sits in my bucket. It is bubble free if you use it right away or the next day. Most of the time;)
@@sophisticakesbymary ok thanks for your reply.
How tall is your acetate sheet?? Looks like a lot taller than the 8inch one provided in the description. Thanks!!
all I have is 8' or 4". I can't remember, but if I had to make it taller, you can tape a couple pieces together. I have done that:)
Can i use this marbel technique with ganache
Thants a hood question! I bet you could if you move quickly applying it to the acetate and then let it sit for long enough that it doesn't run off in transfer. But not so long that it cracks. That is a great 💡. Let me know if you are ok with me giving that a try ok? Seriously:)
💜Hi!!! can i do e marble effect using fresh cream? 💚
Hi! I honestly don't know for sure since I don't typically use it and especially not for a detailed design. My worry would be that it would stick to the acetate when you peel it off. But I truly don't know how it sets up in the freezer. Sorry I don't have a better answer for you;(
Can the sails hold up in heat!
THey are best in a cool dry environment. THey can stand up to heat better then humidity, but still you would be taking a chance with heat.
Corn syrup is hard to find in Australia 😥
Can you wash the acetate and reuse it?
You can:) It may have a residue but it should still work
Hi,
I am curious to know about the acetate sheet. Did you buy it shape like that or did you cut it yourself? I really enjoyed watching all your techniques… I used to decorate cakes now I do really missed it 😩 I am just getting lazy after work.
Hi! I just buy rolls of it from Amazon and cut it to the size I need. We vacation in Minnesota every summer;) we live in Iowa;)
@@sophisticakesbymary how long you’ve been baking and as a cake decorator?
How do you do your cake? What I mean is do you bake your cakes ahead of time? And do you frost them like just a crumb coat? I’m curious to know. Hopefully you can share some ideas like me wants a hobby to turn into something . I want to really pursuing my cake decorating but I’m just scared 😱😩
Oh there are so many things I could tell you! I have been doing this for 14 years. I started as a self taught, Home based business. I outgrew house and started working out of a commercial kitchen until the work load just got to be too much. I have 2 teen boys who need me to be free at least sometimes to be there at their events. I was doing mostly weddings and that took up 6 days a week and then Sundays preparing for the next week. So I finally decided to go work for someone else. I had a horrible experience at the first bakery and then I found my boss. And she is an angel;) She respects my experience and never makes me feel lower then her. In fact, she just kind of let's me just do my thing and she dies all the email, shopping and other things that take up so much time. So before when I had my business I would bake and make frostings and fillings on Monday. Make Edible decorations on Tuesday. Then I would simple syrup, fill and frost cakes on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday were the decorating days and Saturdays were delivery and pick ups. I was doing 3 to 5 weddings per week. You can bake ahead of time and freeze the very well wrapped cakes. They are just fine;) Did I cover it???
I missed the part about the crumbcaot. Yes I crumbcoat and fi al coat every cake. When I am doing fondant, sometimes I can get away with doing one slightly thicker crumb coat. But I try not to skimp on how much frosting is under the fondant either.
@@sophisticakesbymary hi and sorry I didn’t respond you back as soon as I can. But thanks for the time answering my question .
I hope you don’t mind asking this but I’m really curious to know because I am really eager to try to push myself to keep my hobby going.
How do you price your cake? And how do you store your cake? Did you get a permit when you tried it as home business before going to commercial kitchen?
Corn syrup is it the same as glucose ?
Very similar. Corn syrup has more water then glucose.
You say confectioner sugar which is powder sugar but when you pour it in the pan it looks like granule sugar which is it
Did I?!?! Oops! It is granulated. Sorry!
@@sophisticakesbymary thanks for replying people on you tube usually don't answer my questions I appreciate it very much and your cakes are just so beautiful
