I really hope Blizzard takes this opportunity to rework all classes and get rid of some button bloat

I still despise Arcane Explosion. It looks so stupid to have your mage go in and flick their arms out over and over. I wish it was centered on a target and not the mage.
It wasn’t just complex, it was also degenerate to min-max.
Arcane got a lot easier when they reworked it in DF. It was still probably the hardest mage spec, but I think that was entirely because you had to plan your different bursts properly. In raid this wasn't too hard, but in M+ it was a HUGE deal. I liked it though, it was a different kind of difficulty. Actually executing your bursts wasn't hard, it just took a bit of practice - but the concept of a playstyle based around like, planning a ton I thought was really neat.
That said, the removal of Nether Tempest and Radiant Spark I honestly welcome. These changes reminds me very much of the Disc Priest dps rotation rework, which ended up being fantastic for Disc! It's looking like this "big brain planning" you had to do for M+ is not going to be a thing anymore, but tbh that's only rewarding if you're in a premade group (or at least in comms with the tank and know his routes). That said, not only is this rework going to make Arcane Mage more approachable, it looks like you're going to have a lot more variety in your talent builds.... Currently the two builds for Arcane are Single Target and AoE and they differ by like, 2 talents LOL.
Yeah right now in beta it feels naked as hell if your used to playing arcane from previous expansions in M+. Effectively you have 2 cooldowns with Surge, Magi and possibly Evocation (siphon storm if talented). So some of the planning still needs to be done to channel Siphon storm at the right time, which now has a shorter duration, making a bit more finicky on timing.
Im with you missing the giga barrage and magi explosions from past expacs it was crazy fulfilling and definitely a damage type unlike any other game that boiled everything into one haymaker style punch. Ive been playing around with harmony in beta but still doesnt give that huge punch that im looking for. I know they really need to modify how magi works for AOE, especially when the magi target dies way early and you lose all the damage from it. Arcane explosion might become more of an issue if harmony becomes to go to for either single target or aoe because of it eating your clearcasting procs.
Radiant spark was really nice with arcane harmony back in shadowlands, the nuke was phenomenal, but now the numbers are just not there and you are just doing this complicated stuff for mediocre damage. So pretty good to see it go.
good changes of arcane so far:
nether tempest was de facto only just there to buff the talent that makes touch of the magi explode whenever the target is hit, so removing this was good
radiant spark was a bit more creative that "% dmg for time period" but made it so its damage doesn't scale with haste, so removing it is great
the arcane familiar talent allows mana regen to scale with haste a bit, and that's also nice
the AOE alternative to blast is no longer considered to be just explosion, and stuff like nether precision now reflects that barrage is what matters more for aoe
lingering issues with arcane that still make it an incomplete and very crappy spec (irrespective of its damage numbers):
mana is absolutely useless. in legion it was meant to be a determinant of when you can spike in damage. it failed at that, and over time moved more to just cooldown stacking. now, all mana really does is serve as yet another restriction on when you can enter your burst, because if you delay too long, you will run out of mana, do no damage, and be forced to evocate.
mana is causing design problems. single target damage (arcane blast) sucks up mana and triggers clearcasting. AOE damage comes from barrage. you do cast explosions but it's a means to an end. barrage is cheap and actually returns mana to you, so you don't get clearcasting as much. this conflicts with some hero talents that rely on you consuming nether precision. even if this is fixed by some bandage tacky stuff, the fundamental problem is still there
arcane charges are useless. you don't do anything below 4 charges anyways. do you ever think "for the next 15 seconds, im gonna clear charges at 3"? that was the intention in legion design i guess, but never really happened.
talent tree is conflicting. if you look at both left and right sides, you path down from single target to some kind of aoe. right side is the better example: you start by buffing arcane missiles in order to make your barrage cleave. that makes no sense. the only forced nodes in good class trees are the ones that enable your class, not just damage buffs.
touch of the magi and barrage combo still exists. this is reinforced by magi's spark actually. it says the spark explodes if you use blast, barrage, and missiles on the target. well if you use barrage, you clear charges, so you screw up the rest of your CD window. so that means the best way to play is still to first get 4 charges, then shoot out a barrage, and then while its in the air press touch of the magi to get back the 4 charges, and make the full power barrage hit while touch is already up. if anyone played arcane mage, this part feels really shitty because you can very easily mess up your input sequence, and during bloodlust+pi i would find myself taking a sec to stop doing everything and make sure this sequence is correct. it also gets significantly harder if you are closer to your target
so yeah arcane needs a much more fundamental change that it seems they are not going to do before launch.
in fact, frost is a bit whacky too but mostly in aoe - the aoe buttons are really bloated, are a bit conflicting, and the aoe mechanic has nothing to do with its single target mechanic of shattering.
fire, although it also has a few weird design choices after the rework, including the fact that fire blast has 5 purposes now (hot streak, feel the burn, living bomb and forstfire living bomb, ignite spread, glorious incandescence) you have to play it with hot streak in mind, and maybe a bit feel the burn, while you let all the other stuff just happen, is by far the most complete mage spec after reworks so far
When everything is amazing, I find it hard to find what actually IS amazing.
That's the thing. This is how the game feels when we don't know our perfect rotation to give us the biggest dps. All people care about is who has the biggest dic---err I mean dps numbers.
Classes like hunter that so far feel boring and unintuitive to play could be doing the most dmg and you will see more hunters than anything if TWW ships like that.

I always had an issue with Arkane blast not haveing a projectile. Spellslinger with splinters and splinterstorm take this visual gap. I like the suptle Design of those. So i donˋt agre That spellslinger is visualy subpar.
i love arcane but the rotation WAS ANNOYING to play , hard? nah not really just unfun , stacking CDs sucks
7:25 Supernova is already a class talent and is no longer in the arcane spec tree. These changes were made a week ago
True, we recorded this before that change, which was 6 days ago, so not weeks :D
also there have been a bunch of changes posted yesterday which made the video even more obsolete, it is what it is
I welcome the easier to play Arcane mage. Never a fan when the best spec for a class is the ultra over complicated one that my aging butt cannot do fast enough.
Nothing will beat legion haste talent, that talent was so fun and AS FUCKING ALWAYS... blizzard removes fun stuff

It's so frustrating to see classes such as Mages getting their 3rd/4th rework in the course of 2 expansions, while others are the same since legion (bdk), or barely got their rework (fdk udk).
Edit: also BM hunters being the spec with the most 2 point nodes in the entire game, 13 or 16 I've counted, don't remember exactly.
Mage is definitely blizzards golden child, hunter begging for scraps right now
BM is one of the most busted dps this season for how easy it is to play, so i dont think many hunters care about the skill tree haha
BM is like watching paint dry after you play a class with an actual rotation, it’s so boring I couldn’t even spend 2 days trying to gear one. So yeah bm does need a rework maybe add some button bloat lol

Correct. You'll sadly have to wait for the next expansion, for these changes to go live

I have always felt that arcane in DF is pretty methodical and simple. If i compare it to outlaw and enhance for example its almost bland ;) I really think most specs have to much going on in retail still ,par that with lust/hero and it becomes messy. I have played since vanilla and done pretty much everything in the game at a high level through the years but i struggle sometimes with all the procs and shit going on. I can assure you that people waste more globals and procs than ever before nowdays. I talk about regular people not the robots that goes for world first etc. It is what it is i guess and tbh im very positive about tww and the class changes after all.
Hope you do another "easy to play" list for the war within. Wanna go back to the game and dont want to play anything complex

the arcanebattery and aether attunment mecanic is very reminiscent of the SoD arcane mage rotation i think , really like it

I love playing arcane and im just a casual this is awesome
I really like the mechanics, BUT the splinters looks like made of cotton candy. 😭 Can't believe blizzard missing another oportunit to give some lightning flavour to arcane. Make the splinters solid and sharp purple crystals with blue lightning around. Blue crystals and purple lightning for Frost.
In the same way, Arcane Missiles/Blast/Explosion can just have some crackling energy when hit the target. But Arcane Barrage was tge first missing opportunit to give a Arcane Lightning spell, call down purple/blue lightning bolts instead of spyrals bolts. Arcane mage energize the target, and gain arcane charges, until make them a conduit to finish with Arcane Barrage. Even Chrono Shift makes more sense with it, cause if a lightning strikes you, at least you will be dazed. 🥲
Still hoping they introduce a visual glyph to bring back the old arcane missiles animation. New ones just feeling too chaotic and idk, I just liked the old ones looking like actual waves of missiles streaking towards an enemy that looked like u had actual control over instead of just something can almost look like a beam at some points.

I hate the old ones but I’m all for having a choice of animations for spells. I think it would be cool to be able to unlock a variety of animations and effects

you kidding me? Chrono shift is nuts! its one of the biggest powers for sarcane mage huge in melee lobbys solo shuffle super nova is strong too to save the healer

Not everyone wants simple to play.. skill expression is fun for some. Blizzard seem to just be taking all risks away and that's a dangerous slippery slope..
I do agree, I liked the difficulty, just not the one we had in DF, it was just tedious and boring. It's not a simple spec in TWW, yet anyway, but it is more engaging
Waiting for 17s on revocation and then pressing the exact same order of button every time is not complexity. Its just tedious, especially in low keys when stuff is dying too fast so you cant even go through a big burn phase

And for blizzard: spellslinger is obviously pointles as it's so visually underwhelming that everyone will play sunfury. And why sunfury and frostfire got nice, new, style matching icons and spellslinger reused 20 years old different style icon? Come on.
only way i agree with this is if there was a bonus to playing a difficult class/spec well but dmg on arcane has been iffy at best even when played well compared to other classes facerolling for top tier dps. I love the intricacies of arcane but you get very little bang for your efforts which leads to less invites to groups in pugs and have to rely on friends all the time. Been playing arcane since shadowlands and the stigma just sucks.
@@BenJonesart agree. I was however mostly topping the chart. High initial burst is very rewarding. But yes, more difficult classes should hit better.
@@aaronjohnson2215 yeah i would top when the procs hit right on the right pulls, though when a tank makes a giga pull and no procs happen i was left holding bag in the background. Right now in beta Arcane is a shell of its previous difficulty seriously entering a demon hunter level of easy...evo and surge everyother pack and magi every pack (give or take). Though, ive been playing with harmony to see if i can make barrages more impactful, things die too quick right now and details kinda working makes it difficult to see where we are going to land rotationally.

By the way i can't remember the last time i had to cast missiles without clearcasting proc, so its now really a change that i would notice personally. Kind of sucks for pvp though, in certain cases it was nice to LOS and still keep pressure by pressing and shimmering behind a wall.
I don't get it, what was so complicated about evocation + ultimate power > burn all your manage -> Spark->orb->surge -> barrage to touch of the magi -> Presence of mind -> 2x instant blast -> one more blast -> missile -> cancel -> 2x Blast -> missile (bombardment send) no? cancel repeat till no 40% manage shifting power, evocation -> see step one.
Dead ass simple rotation, can shuffle few barrages and orbs if there is trash from time to time in between blasts, but overall, really simple rotation, unlike fire, where you press every single button on the keyboard several times, bring out an icon of your god, feed the cat, pet the dog, do a ritual by sacrificing an animal to get 150k dps on 522 item level.
