This is way simpler than some of the other guides. I've not played mage since WotLK and was interested in checking out sunfury arcane, so this is very helpful. Starting off with the very basic idea of the rotation, almost like you were level 10 or something, was clarifying. If you look at the wowhead guide (which of course is written by an amazing player, who I'm sure is correct about everything in the guide), I feel like I can't even get started because it seems like you have to understand so much about the talents before you can even start casting. This is way more useful for a beginner arcane player, which I am.

Amazing guide. Your 10.2 Frost guide helped me go from a 15 yr break returning player mid S3 to a 3k+ M+ player by the end of S4. I was able to avoid forming many bad habits and focus my time on mastering the subtleties of the shatter interactions, AoE rotation, 2T cleave optimization, etc. All things I would not have discovered naturally for a very long time. I'm excited to now switch focus and master Arcane in S1 of this xpac. Eventually I'll become competent in all the mage specs and learn to use them to their full potential situationally. (like the details streamer input addon) especially with the things that aren't static, like barrage w blast (when missiles/orb charge refresh) since theyre instant spells. 24:15 - Arcane orb generated from the keystone talent does not give an arcane charge upon "release", only when hitting enemies, so to get 4 charges back it needs to hit 4 targets. Regular orb does give arcane charge when cast. Minor detail, probably only matters in 3 target scenarios Great video as well, really helped me sort out the spell priority in my rotation :D
Yep, thats how orb barrage works. Poroms WA needs a load condition change ig, but it showcases you procced OB very early by check for that exact situation, gaining a charge before your charges are consumed post barrage.
Spellslinger arcane is the most fun I’ve ever had on mage, I hope it’s Brought in line with sunfury or sunfury is tuned down so it’s not the expected arcane spec.

Hi, I recently came back to the game and to my old main mage and your guides are absolutetly best for someone like me, thanks man ! I have one probably silly question, why is haste valueable in aoe for arcane mage ? Does our animations scale with haste or Am I missing something ?
Normally in ST haste means you go oom a lot faster, in AOE we spend a lot of time casting spells that dont cost as much mana and so haste has higher value. Rn haste is good regardless.
Did you watch Xaryus video on arcane opener where he dicussed with gingi? Does he have a point? His logic sounds reasonable but he surely is missing something out. Im curious what you think about it.
I watched the first two minutes now, he’s just experiencing variance. Whether he missiles before or after the surge into touch didnt matter, he cast the same amount of missiles during touch. The reason to missiles before touch is to get more arcane blasts in it. I think many people massively underestimate the amount variance that can be present in such short periods on dummies. If he got more missiles into touch maybe that would have credence for arcane echo procs, but again, he had the same amount of 3.

Hi, i have one question do you: I have two stacks of Netherprecision and cast an Arcane Blast follow directly by an barrage (Double diping), but Both stacks are gone. So i dont understand this, why does the Double diping Not work with netherprecision?
Every time you did your rotation I was looking at the dps generated to see if there was a clear difference between myself and you. And based on that is even tho I didn't use evoc before a pull and just did the other bit of the rotation I was looking at about 3million dps opener without timewarp. Was wondering if it's just a dummy thing or the heroic dungeon bosses just take more damage than they are suppose to. (btw this is the first time I am maining a mage or playing one in an xpac)
What do you do in the situation where you have less than 4 charges, arcane orb on CD, but you have a regular clear casting missles proc? Do you use the missiles even at low charges?
hey mate, i only do 2 barrages @big burst (1st with surge+touch and the 2nd when touch is about to finish) and ofc i keep blasting + missiles the whole touch duration am i correct or i need to do barrage whenever 4 charges + nether pro @big burst ? am i losing that big dps ?
We do not barrage to end touch. Both spellslinger and sunfury barrage at specific points which is covered in the video, but spellslinger always does blast + blast + barrage after missiles. And sunfury does the standard blast blast missiles with a blast + barrage with the burden of power buff.
One question (sorry if i missed it): When i have burden up, but only 2 or less arcane charges. Do i arcane orb first and then blast -> barrage or do i just blast -> barrage?
It's a really good guide, and I'm able to follow most of it but I get lost in the actual rotation of when you're suppose to barrage instead of missile or vice versa or what specifically you're looking for when you use barrage? Do I use missiles every time I can when it procs?
If you dont have nether precision you should missiles. In ST as Sunfury we only ever barrage with either the Burden of Power buff (every 6 arcane blasts or barrage) and ideally we do a blast + barrage. And then when arcane surge ends we get a buff called arcane soul which basically makes barrage good so for the duration of that buff we use arcane barrage as much as possible (while not overcapping clearcasting).
Could you explain why you did blast+barrage in the AOE opener at 37:11? I’m guessing this falls under the ‘Blast + Barrage when you have Nether Precision + Clearcasting’ priority but how did you not lose any arcane charges without burden of power?
You would’ve been left with no arcane charges if it didn’t proc though right? Is that ok because High Voltage will almost certainly build back the charges?
@Manather it's not ur fault I did look at some part of the videos trying to look for an answer cuz I'm gonna practice arcane didnt play it since shadowlands maybe and only did 2-3 was just goofing around one last thing the arcane basic is it mainly for quing? If it is I can skip it I guess
If barrage damage is calculated when it leaves the hand like the guide says, why do I want to blast blast barrage? Wont the 2 nether precision stacks be gone by that time, thus making the barrage weak and providing no additional splinters? Seems like that's not double dipping (blast/barrage) like the guide says. Also, what is the damage difference between blast blast missiles versus blast blast/barrage?
Nether precision persists for 0.15s after consumption, and since blast hits the target instantly your queued barrage still gains the damage buff since its present when its cast.

One qick question: If you have CC proc available, sometimes you blast - barrage - missiles and then buildup charges with CC. Sometime you use blast - missiles - blast - blast. Could you explain when to use what? I understood to always use barrage if you have 1 procc of NC and then buildup the charges with missiles again.
If its ST you are talking about, then with sunfury I am barraging with burden of power, never around nether precision. In aoe if you can recover charges you should blast + barrage on 1 nether precision stack -> missiles to recover charges.

Arcane explosion is a really bad ability is the main reason. We still barrage quite a bit (and you can do more than shown here) for instance you should barrage until 0 arcane charges before using aether attunement. And if playing the double orb talent barrage at 2 np if you have orb. Arcane blast as filler will provide a lot of impetus uptime compared to explosion.
I prefer spellslinger over SF BUTTTTT that arcane orb travel distance needs to be half of what it is. You will be accidently pulling mobs in dungeons so often
At 31:50 your saying your haste is too low to get the burden+nether boosted barrage within the touch of magi window right? Why does casting the 2 blasts beforehand help you reach that goal? Is it simply because it’ll give you 2 fire spheres “early”?
Burden of Power happens every 6 arcane blasts or barrage, by blasting twice before bursting I made it so I only needed 4 in touch to reach burden. Realistically with lower haste what you would do is Pre-evocate -> arcane blast -> missiles -> surge -> touch and be fine. But this is only an issue for the next week or so.
hey mate why don't we double dip on the last nether precision stack with burden as sunfury? I see you just casting "blast - barrage" instead of "blast - blast - barrage"
because we dont force a line up of nether precision and burden (not worth it), and whenever you get burden you have to blast + barrage if you start a blast.
Do you hold Touch of the Magi until you have an arcane missiles proc in aoe? Or just hope that you’ll get one? Do arcane splinters generate clearcasting? Seems like you could potentially touch but then not get a middles before it’s up.
Also, at 5:46 he stars with evo/blast/orb/missiles/surge but at 13:05 he starts with evo/missiles/surge. Which one is the correct way to open for spellslinger ?
hey, watching your video with a friend, trying to help him, but your video is all over the place -> explaining a rotation, not showing it, then doing a complete different rotation, then going back to the basics of arcane power. best feedback i can give you is make a script thex next time. easiest way to slowly explain from basics to "special tech". additional feedback is an ability weakaura, that shows a timeline of your recently used abilities. thx for the video tho
In aoe, yes. My bad for only adding the aoe lines to the ST prio, technically blast with nether precision is below that missiles line. Which is why we end up overwriting it if we need charges.
Do we need to track Spellfire Sphere at all or no need for that? And for aoe, would it not be worth to missle here 37:41 and then go into touch with empowered blast barrage?
You can track the build up to burden buff if you want. Which is technically a sphere buff, but you dont need to track your other spheres. And yes I probably shouldve missiled there.

I'm really sorry and i know its a stupid question, but i just started WoW and am wondering what the best weapon and armour is for mages or where could I find out?
Generally people use sims to tell them what gear to aim for/equip. And the website for that is raidbots. I’d recommend watching a video on simming for wow as an introduction. If you are not max level you should ignore this advice till you are though. Mages wear cloth armor in all their slots, and then its just important that your gear has intellect on them, and that your weapon/trinkets do not have strength or agility.
So if I have 4 charges in spellslinger aoe situation, and have a CC, is it better to abarr first to dump charges and regain some with high voltage? Or instead use the CC first for NP, then be at 0 charges and have to do a few arcane explosions?

Personally, yes. But you can do it however you want. Easy to make some giant text pop up on your screen saying “evo into surge now”.

Did you watch Xaryus video on arcane opener where he dicussed with gingi? Does he have a point? His logic sounds reasonable but he surely is missing something out. Im curious what you think about it.
I watched the first two minutes now, he’s just experiencing variance. Whether he missiles before or after the surge into touch didnt matter, he cast the same amount of missiles during touch. The reason to missiles before touch is to get more arcane blasts in it. I think many people massively underestimate the amount variance that can be present in such short periods on dummies. If he got more missiles into touch maybe that would have credence for arcane echo procs, but again, he had the same amount of 3.

Sunfury does significantly more dmg atm, but spellslinger is easier.
@@Manather yeah im slowly learning sunfury right now. i got the base rotation down just waiting to gear up and such to go further with it. atm im kinda button mashing lol plus ive been sick at the hospital so i couldnt make it to 80 yet before the full drop

I have two stacks of Netherprecision and cast an Arcane Blast follow directly by an barrage (Double diping), but Both stacks are gone.

Every time you did your rotation I was looking at the dps generated to see if there was a clear difference between myself and you. And based on that is even tho I didn't use evoc before a pull and just did the other bit of the rotation I was looking at about 3million dps opener without timewarp. Was wondering if it's just a dummy thing or the heroic dungeon bosses just take more damage than they are suppose to. (btw this is the first time I am maining a mage or playing one in an xpac)

What do you do in the situation where you have less than 4 charges, arcane orb on CD, but you have a regular clear casting missles proc? Do you use the missiles even at low charges?

hey mate, i only do 2 barrages @big burst (1st with surge+touch and the 2nd when touch is about to finish) and ofc i keep blasting + missiles the whole touch duration am i correct or i need to do barrage whenever 4 charges + nether pro @big burst ? am i losing that big dps ?
We do not barrage to end touch. Both spellslinger and sunfury barrage at specific points which is covered in the video, but spellslinger always does blast + blast + barrage after missiles. And sunfury does the standard blast blast missiles with a blast + barrage with the burden of power buff.
One question (sorry if i missed it): When i have burden up, but only 2 or less arcane charges. Do i arcane orb first and then blast -> barrage or do i just blast -> barrage?

It's a really good guide, and I'm able to follow most of it but I get lost in the actual rotation of when you're suppose to barrage instead of missile or vice versa or what specifically you're looking for when you use barrage? Do I use missiles every time I can when it procs?
If you dont have nether precision you should missiles. In ST as Sunfury we only ever barrage with either the Burden of Power buff (every 6 arcane blasts or barrage) and ideally we do a blast + barrage. And then when arcane surge ends we get a buff called arcane soul which basically makes barrage good so for the duration of that buff we use arcane barrage as much as possible (while not overcapping clearcasting).

Could you explain why you did blast+barrage in the AOE opener at 37:11? I’m guessing this falls under the ‘Blast + Barrage when you have Nether Precision + Clearcasting’ priority but how did you not lose any arcane charges without burden of power?
Orb barrage procced, you can see the orb the second later
You would’ve been left with no arcane charges if it didn’t proc though right? Is that ok because High Voltage will almost certainly build back the charges?

If barrage damage is calculated when it leaves the hand like the guide says, why do I want to blast blast barrage? Wont the 2 nether precision stacks be gone by that time, thus making the barrage weak and providing no additional splinters? Seems like that's not double dipping (blast/barrage) like the guide says. Also, what is the damage difference between blast blast missiles versus blast blast/barrage?
Nether precision persists for 0.15s after consumption, and since blast hits the target instantly your queued barrage still gains the damage buff since its present when its cast.

One qick question: If you have CC proc available, sometimes you blast - barrage - missiles and then buildup charges with CC. Sometime you use blast - missiles - blast - blast.
Could you explain when to use what? I understood to always use barrage if you have 1 procc of NC and then buildup the charges with missiles again.
If its ST you are talking about, then with sunfury I am barraging with burden of power, never around nether precision. In aoe if you can recover charges you should blast + barrage on 1 nether precision stack -> missiles to recover charges.

Arcane explosion is a really bad ability is the main reason. We still barrage quite a bit (and you can do more than shown here) for instance you should barrage until 0 arcane charges before using aether attunement. And if playing the double orb talent barrage at 2 np if you have orb. Arcane blast as filler will provide a lot of impetus uptime compared to explosion.
I prefer spellslinger over SF BUTTTTT that arcane orb travel distance needs to be half of what it is. You will be accidently pulling mobs in dungeons so often

At 31:50 your saying your haste is too low to get the burden+nether boosted barrage within the touch of magi window right? Why does casting the 2 blasts beforehand help you reach that goal? Is it simply because it’ll give you 2 fire spheres “early”?
Burden of Power happens every 6 arcane blasts or barrage, by blasting twice before bursting I made it so I only needed 4 in touch to reach burden. Realistically with lower haste what you would do is Pre-evocate -> arcane blast -> missiles -> surge -> touch and be fine. But this is only an issue for the next week or so.

Nope. This is approximately a 4% nerf, that might be improved by some rotation changes the simcrafters are working on.

because we dont force a line up of nether precision and burden (not worth it), and whenever you get burden you have to blast + barrage if you start a blast.
Do you hold Touch of the Magi until you have an arcane missiles proc in aoe? Or just hope that you’ll get one? Do arcane splinters generate clearcasting? Seems like you could potentially touch but then not get a middles before it’s up.
Dont hold touch. Splinters dont generate CC. Hope you get a cc during touch, its very unlikely you wont.

hey, watching your video with a friend, trying to help him, but your video is all over the place -> explaining a rotation, not showing it, then doing a complete different rotation, then going back to the basics of arcane power. best feedback i can give you is make a script thex next time. easiest way to slowly explain from basics to "special tech". additional feedback is an ability weakaura, that shows a timeline of your recently used abilities. thx for the video tho

In aoe, yes. My bad for only adding the aoe lines to the ST prio, technically blast with nether precision is below that missiles line. Which is why we end up overwriting it if we need charges.

You can track the build up to burden buff if you want. Which is technically a sphere buff, but you dont need to track your other spheres. And yes I probably shouldve missiled there.

I'm really sorry and i know its a stupid question, but i just started WoW and am wondering what the best weapon and armour is for mages or where could I find out?
Generally people use sims to tell them what gear to aim for/equip. And the website for that is raidbots. I’d recommend watching a video on simming for wow as an introduction. If you are not max level you should ignore this advice till you are though. Mages wear cloth armor in all their slots, and then its just important that your gear has intellect on them, and that your weapon/trinkets do not have strength or agility.

So if I have 4 charges in spellslinger aoe situation, and have a CC, is it better to abarr first to dump charges and regain some with high voltage? Or instead use the CC first for NP, then be at 0 charges and have to do a few arcane explosions?

Search for spell opacity in interface and turn it to 0. This effects all characters though.
