Here's some great news. The Iberian lynx recently reached the thousand individual milestone!! From 2002 to 2020, the population has went from 92 to a staggering 1,111. Let's hope they multiply even more this decade!!
PD: In 2021, the population grew by 23% and reached 1365 individuals!
PD2: 1668 as of May 2023!!
I heard it hasn't been spotted in Portugal since the 90s. U know if there's truth to this?
@@jaimedelgado7529 I just looked it up. It seems that in recent years there have been efforts to reintroduce the Iberian lynx in Portugal (so I guess it hadn't been spotted the years before). As of March 2020, Portugal stated that the Iberian lynx is "safe from extinction" in Portuguese land, so that's great news!!
PD: As of February 2022, there are around 200 lynxes in the wild in Portugal. It's quite a small number if we compare it to Spain, but they're definitely recovering!
@@gumarks_ thank u greatly for the reply
@@jaimedelgado7529 you're welcome!!

Hello
Spain is an uncredible beautiful country. So much more than tourist's places.
Iberian lynxs dont exist only in spain. Its called IBERIAN for a reason
@@monalicee They only existed in Spain, in Portugal they had become extinct, they have been repopulated with lynxes from Spain, the same will be done with the Iberian wolf in the future
Portugal too! Ibéria!!!
I already saw them in Portugal!
@@monalicee IBERIAN is Portugal + Spain ( the Portuguese lynxs population is growing too) im from South Portugal (Algarve) and recently some British tourists call the police because they saw a small tiger in their garden! (we can imagine what they saw)
They are beautiful and it’s great to hear the population is growing
The lynx population is thriving due to reduced 'human activites' during the pandemic.
Mast👌👌👌👌
Yeah, they will continue to grow, the problem we are having now is that they don’t have enough prey (mostly hares or wild rabbits) to survive on their own. Stray cats eat also the lynx’s food. It’s getting difficult
What a absolutely handsome cat.Congrats on getting such great pictures of him!
They look so well groomed, I wonder how do they manage to keep their beards so clean and tidy
Maybe sum wild cat barber around there. Servicing for their own life)
Got to admit that is a good beard
@@yoo1242. the Lynx barber is even more elusive, it was never spotted till today, but for sure its around

Hello
Here in Alberta its illegal to hunt the wild rabbits that inhabit the city, as a result we have a lot of wild predators that live right within the city limits. Bobcats, coyotes, and raptor birds are very common to see. In order to keep the Iberian lynx thriving, you need to keep the rabbit population stable.
That's exactly the problem mate. Iberian lynx were actually doing quite well until a particular person decided to introduce myxomatosis into his private estate im France, causing devastating losses in rabbit populations across Europe.
Hello
The Lynx's acceptance was it just didn't give a damn about her as she was neither food nor a threat!
This is so incredible 🙌😍love the lynx. Thankyou everyone who has worked on saving the Iberian Lynx from extinction. 💛
Long live the Iberian Lynx
O lince ibérico e tão lindo e mágico ...irradia uma energia e uma oersonalidade tão incrível!! Extinção desta espécie.. não!! Adorei o vídeo, podermos contar historias selvagens e apreciar .... é sinal que os esforços para preservar estés linces espectaculares está a resultar!
This was the whole spanish society working towards a goal. From scientists working on captivity reproduction and restoring their habitat, to the administration building elevated passes trhough roads, to normal people driving slowly on their vehicles and paying their taxes proudly to conquer one of the most difficult tasks my country has ever done. It was decades of full commitement and its not even done yet.
1:36 the way they move is just incredible
Such a beauty... 💖Thanks to people like them there is allways a chance for something good to happen 🐾
Amazing and absolutely stunning animal! So graceful, sleek and elegant! LOVE those ears most! And to think that in UK/Scotland they have been arguing for more than 2 decades if these cats are safe to reintroduce back to their forests/landscapes. They are scared of this cat!! What a joke really....we should give them as much room and habitats as we can....to make sure they never ever are on the brink again...
To be fair, this one is an altogether different species and wouldn't be considered for reintroduction in Scotland (or anywhere outside Iberia). The one who is currently being considered for reintroduction in Scotland is the Eurasian lynx which is much bigger and can take on deer.
But I totally agree with the sentiment of your comment, they should definitely be reintroduced.
They are so beautiful! I love them so much. 😍😘

Meet your Gen 9 Pokemon grass starter, based on this lynx!
Never see such a calm cat... never like cats, but I think I love these iberian lynx.
All wildlife is just stunning and beautiful most are bautiful in there own way even though they look gross to some people to me they are beautiful in there own unique way and all nature no matter what it is should be protected for thousands of years until our species can no longer serve as there guardians which I believe was the purpose of our evolutionary step to be the protected of the natural world no matter the cost
@Malar M thanks
Do you see yourself separate from nature?
@@macktheripper7454 no we can still be nature ourselves and serve as it’s guardians living sustainably and in a cycling system of living while protecting all other forms of nature
@@macktheripper7454 love your profile logo big fan of Star Wars but prefer the original timeline
@UCKvg25GLQavLjPW4xSlaaIg man you are so full of shit
Protect nature guardians? Anything that is alive on earth are parasitic disease who doesn't any protection they need to disappear to prevented them from repeating the same and agonzing cycle over and over plus the beauty lies in earth only
Thank you. Such a beautiful animal. So glad that they are recovering from their low numbers.
Iberian Lynx are very unique & they deserve to be protected 🐱🐆🤎
These lynxes are so beautiful. 😍
It’s really awesome to hear you talk about how we are coexisting!!!!! Gorgeous Lynx!!! Thank you 😊💕
What a magnificent creature it is! So elegant is its locomotor capacity. Leaping on the rock as if no gravity was there! Effortless!

Lynx can take down a wolf, deer...and there videos of it fighting pumas & bears. This little animal is not only beautiful but not afraid of a challenge.
Perhaps you’re referring to the Eurasian Lynx, if that’s the case, then you are most certainly right. The Iberian lynx however is about half the size of his European cousin (between 9 and 20 kg approximately) and isn’t equipped to take down nor deer nor Iberian wolves. It’s undoubtedly a brave animal, but the biggest animal it can hunt in the wild Mediterranean forests is a deer fawn. It’s main diet consists on rabbits, it can also hunt other mammals and birds slightly smaller than himself, but that’s about it. And it definitely has nothing to do against the Iberian wolf, it won’t even get close to them.
Hello
Cats are the top 10 beautiful animals. So beautiful 😻.
Thank you to everyone who works with nature and helps educate humanity 🙏💯
Majestic Animals. 💓💞
Well done! Thank you for helping this beautiful species out from extinction.
5:08 Thank you for saying "we were just two animals in the same place at the same time." Yes, we are indeed animals. Human beings need to stop romanticizing our so-called "dominion" in nature. Although we are categorically mammals, most people wouldn't stand a chance in the wild. BIG respect for your work!
Just incredible documentation keep up the Great strides
I hope to see these animals more in Europe again!
Great work
Very good work. Thank you so much to everyone who dedicated themselves to that

One of the lynxes born in Portugal and then released in Spain travelled 500 km to return to its birth place. 😻
Its twin brother must have been confused and went to the Pyrinnes…
He looks like a wise old samurai
I observe linx occasionally here in Southern Spain, a real treat.
cool..i saw a big bob cat lazily stroll across the parking lot of a hiking trail mid day right in front of me a few summers ago.
You’re well aware that the species in the video isn’t a Bobcat right? Bobcats are only found in North America. While the Iberian Lynx is only found in Southern Europe.
@@kahanuermeyas-tulu4056 yes very aware thankyou. they have a likeness and the awesomeness of seeing a predator cat up close is very rare..especially with the condition we find our ecosystems in worldwide.
Hello
wow amazing
This is unexpected it is looking like a beast though with silence and soft nature hoping to save more such endangered animals by these inspiring stories whereas in rajasthan India with many national park and sanctuaries where do i live it is famous for seeing common wildcats such as panthers but yet i haven't seen not even one.. hope me and many other can be part of many conservation stories together

Nice Video Bro
I saw a Lynx about the size and shape of a miniature Schnauzer In the Ariege in 2002. I mentioned it a couple of years later to a Toulouse University naturalist who was very skeptical till he asked just where I'd seen it. Whereupon he stated that there had been another report in the same place of a very small lynx; also thought to be Iberian. I was setting up a mountainbike event. A rider saw another Lynx but that was the size of a large dog fox
E' um animal lindissimo
dont know about you guys but she's 100% my type
Good news. As for today, the number of Iberian Lynx have raised up to 2,000.
