So great to see Sergio again! I believe the date of this performance is actually January 20, 1963 as Ed had not discovered him yet by the date listed in the video. Thank you so much for this wonderful song and performance by the great Franchi! He also sang "And This is My Beloved" on a color episode.

SErgio had a wonderful voice and was quite handsome. I remember in 1977or 78 reading in Playbill that producer Zev Buffman wanted to revive South Pacific on Broadway with Sergio and Petula Clark. I wish this had happened. I can picture both of them in the lead roles.
And I guess you know about song writing and singing a song as difficult as "And this is my beloved". Wise up, this is one of the great tenors of his day on a par with Gordon McCrae version.
One of my favorite Italian tenors. Fabulous voice and absolutely gorgeous
I get tremelo from hearing and seeing Franchi singing.
Sergio looks great here and with one of the greatest tenor voices...ever!
I certainly miss high quality TV shows such as The Ed Sullivan Show

A kind of authentic and classy talent that rarely exists now in our current times.

Fine accented voice. 🙂
It's amazing how much he sounds like a baritone, yet this is in a high key, perhaps in D, a full fifth higher than a baritone key.
Wonderful!

Amazing lyrics set to Borodin's music. Not much of a song? What more can you ask?
