Great Documentary! I've seen it, cuts from it, and about 15 different versions of all the same film! Jane Goodall's Chimps. Poor Baldy McGregor! Each and every time I see it, I realize 1 thing like a SLAP IN MY FACE! MAN FUCKS UP EVERYTHING! Jane Goodall did the Kind thing and had Baldy shot, he did not die naturally, and was only suffering a disgraceful death for the King Chimp he was! Chimps are the Most Forgiving creatures on the planet! Early deaths of great mentors and leaders! Crippled and robbed of a normal life by Mans germs! Yet they go on like it NEVER HAPPENED! They also STILL TOLERATE the presence of man in their Domain. I think the Greatest Attribute ANY ANIMAL has is they NEVER FEEL SORRY FOR THEMSELVES! Will MAN EVER be able to say that about OURSELVES? 🤔
Dorothy Hubbard Obviously, humans who had not been vaccinated and carriers brought it to the "pristine" forest. The same thing happened in ancient Hawaii when Captain Cook and his men mingled with the natives - bringing all kinds of diseases the natives had never built and immunity to.
Dorothy Hubbard Its Ms - but you are very welcome. I live in Hawaii and there are some very strong laws about "introducing" non-native plants and animals (because there are so few natural predators). Even if your child has chicken pox - there is a BIG sign on all the doctor's and hospital doors instructing you NOT bring them into the facility but they will come to your car to assess the situation. It is also why dogs and cats, etc have to remain in quarantine before being allowed to go home with owners moving to the island. We don't have rabies here - so they have to stay in "jail" for a length of time before they are allowed into the population. An interesting story : rats used to come with the ships that came to our harbors and began to overtake the island. Someone had the bright idea to bring in mongoose to control the rats. Problem that nobody thought of? Hawaii has no natural predators for the mongoose. So, now while we don't have a rat problem, we do have a "excess" supply of mongoose. She even could identify when it was safe for her to move among those chimps, "hanging out with them" but not to show of "loook I am the great chimp - lady" but to learn, understand and study.. The knowledge from this film and many more .. that's stuff we only know because of her and her team.
Why not? Just because humans say that we are the smartest species on earth... that does not have to be the case? Some keep chimps, others wolves, lions, tigers.. others toss orca into pools AND jump in with them as if the term "apex predator" wouldn't exist :) Try may way: Don't let the stupidity of some humans startle you .. just try to act smarter yourself :) Spares a lot of facepalming ;)

I wonder if Flo ever was groomed much from her boys or other chimps in her troop. She has messy hair on top of her head like she just got out of bed. Fifi must do some grooming so she could use those brownie points to take baby Flint from Flo once in awhile.

No. Really, is that what you think of us? My peers and I didn't throw constant temper tantrums, and were/are respectful, considerate, and fair towards others, follow the Golden Rule. (Also, you really can't fairly judge the actions or attitude of a whole group/generation of people-or another species, for that matter-on the behavior of a small percentage of individuals.)

All of Flo's children are long gone. Fifi disappeared after a forest fire in 2004. Five of her children are still alive.
