This is the very BEST Goodall doc I've ever seen. Even though Jane herself is not actually featured, the subjects are Flo & Co -- one of Goodall's most beloved family of chimps. While watching, I kept feeling like I was sitting in the jungle right next to Jane, hearing her explain what the chimps were thinking and feeling = the next best thing to BEING Jane Goodall!
(Hard to believe this fabulous documentary isn't viral with a million views and likes!)
MANY THANKS to Jane and Hugo for all their patience, dedication and brilliant research!!!

All that old Cunt Goodall did was anthropomorphize these nasty little things. They are not nearly as close to human as they want you to think. Otherwise their work would be a waste of time. Which it was.

I find it weird how it never gets mentioned about the young girl who was killed by Frodo while under Goodalls supervision...I doubt the girls mother has such a high opinion of JG...she has sure done a good job of cultivating her image...Frodo also injured her but unfortunately the little girl died instead of the chimp exploiting jane

Such an enjoyable, though at times sad, look at the lives of a chimpanzee family. The parallels that can be drawn to our own journey through the brief time we get on Earth are many. Makes me wish we could all be just a little kinder and gentler with each other and with the other animals we share our time with.

Wow, an 8-parter and I watched each one with more eagerness than I can remember having for any movie in a long while! This was a binge worthy documentary despite being very old footage. I shed a tear at the end at the reality of the horrific ways these animals are hunted down and their home destroyed in the name of profit for man in one way or another. Much in the same way Orangutans are fighting extinction. We can only hope their demise comes to an end someway somehow.

I like orangutans better, they are the true gentle apes, chimps are violent but I like learning about all the great apes so Thanks for posting this. Years after this Froto would dethrone his bro Freud and become one of the biggest , nastiest leaders in the forest. He was violent and ruthless, he would lead hunting parties and kill other chimps . He eventually got sick, became really thin and grey and the others took their revenge and exiled him after kicking his ass even when he begged they attacked him, they were pissed. Chimps are crazy.

He also wandered further away from the rest of the chimps, he would end up almost every day at the feeding station/JC camp sanctuary to be fed Frodo ended up relying on the very people that he bet up btw - he actually died from a testicle wound that got infected, the culprit was a little dog!!!

I was so happy when I heard that Fifi had 3 kids of her own, and she was happy. Finally, her brother Fagin got used to his paralyzed arm, was getting the respect he wanted, and was on his way to becoming a dominant male.
Frodo and Fanny are doing good.
Because they had an excellent mother, Flo who taught them how to survive is why they her kids made it, except for Flint.
    RIP, Flo & Flint.

The ending is the saddest part of the entire movie. Not just one community devistated by man brought fatal & crippling air borne pathogens into their families like, polio, influenza ect. But the genocide or elimination of an entire species that just happen to be our cognitively aware- closest cousin on earth; with 98.5 Identical D.N.A. to human beings. They deploy complicated societies and cultures, that will all be gone in a FEW years.😨 Wake up folks! We should change things before it's too late. Meat is Murder.🙊🙉🙈

    • @fraukie1598
      @fraukie1598 Год назад

Other than the young of mostly solitary females Flint did have a chance.
He could have followed his siblings and picked up from them what it takes to survive, he was not too young for that.
I don't think that is "making them too human".
Like humans, they have a brain and everyone who has a brain can also be mentally ill.
He was, that made him that much dependent on his mother and that's why he died shortly after her..
Humans are just the species with the most mental health issues, not the only one who has those at all ;)
Also there might be other things at play.
The polio was easy, because it was obvious to see and I am sure they did their research on those who died.
But there are tons of different infectious threats.
The natural thing for Flint would have been WANTING more and more independent from his mother.
It's quite possible that he was born "different" or at some point had some sort of meningitis or anything like that that stopped his brain from developing beyond "I am the baby, mother cares for me and if not I get mad".
But in that case "grief" sums it up like "died because of old age".
"Age" is not a sickness, but it makes the body weaker.
And "grief" is in some way just "not knowing how or not wanting to live without someone/something that was lost".
And he did die because he didn't know or didn't want to know that all he needed to do was fallowing his siblings and profit from the fact that his families status would allowed him to just keep on learning what he needs to know to survive.

That is clearly not the case at all. With the huge leaps forward in video capturing technology, greater experience in editing processes and narration based on a deeper understanding of this subject, it is excellent productions like this that are used today as a benchmark and reference to build on. 'Rise of the Warrior Apes (2017)' is just one example. Nostalgia has it's place but doesn't trump how a lot of modern filmmaking has evolved for the better.

It fails to even mention the brutal chimpanzee war taking place precisely at the time which this part refers to, with Figan a prominent member of the war parties killing other chimps. Which makes the trite template: humans - bad, apes - cute, kind of fall apart.
