As smart as chimps are, I figure Fifi got back at him a couple times when mom wasn't looking. Also, when Flint was wanting to nurse, did it look like he was trying to rip Flame from her arms.
Flint killed that baby because he was jealous... I mean he was 6 years old when she died that's the time when chimps are supposed to be going out on their own away from the constant care of their mother.
I watched Jane Goidall's version of this the reason the baby died was Clint was taking all the milk and the baby starved out. I have seen some Humans do almost the samething in another way.

Jane Goodall likes to anthropomorphize as much human emotion as possible onto chimpanzees because it's what helps bring in donations. That's how she became a multi-millionaire buying a brand new Tesla every year & owning multiple vacation homes all around the world.

Fifi should have kicked Flint's spoiled ass when Flint was beating on Flo when she was holding Flame, the baby. Flint was no longer the youngest and Flo would have appreciated somebody stopping him from beating her. The little bastard was getting sexually aroused while striking her, as indicated by his pose 1:03 immediately after striking his mom a number of times earlier!
I don't think we're in a position to say what animals in nature should and should not do. Chimps never go through menopause because they evolved that way. If old Flo was too tired to discipline her son, she was too old. Events played out in a cause and effect way. I hated the little bastard but he was the product of a non-disciplining mother, and we've all see how those kids turn from little monsters to teenage thugs to criminals. The only way the humans should have interfered was to keep their polio from spreading to the animals. The source was a local town where, Goodall says, the doctor saw polio in humans but refused to vaccinate or report it which would have been easy, this was in a British protectorate thus their job to protect. Probably racism kept the dr from vaccinating. It clearly made Goodall furious and the people at the camp did the nearly impossible task of vaccinating the chimps they were studying, hard because it was a live vaccine and had to be given in 3 doses a week apart. A nightmare. I do not understand why they did not give anti parasitical meds when the troop came down with mites which weakened everyone and killed some.... But these women at that tine could not resist interfering (Goodall and Fossey and Gildekas), and there are those who would say today that a bright line should have been drawn and no chimp ever allowed that first banana. But once HUMANS began screwing up their lives, I believe it was humans who were and are obliged to try and make it up to them by interfering in order to save lives & species. They did offer Flint food but he wouldn't take it..
Perhaps you should have kept your statement to one sentence as it made the most sense. As a layman you might check out Safari Diaries. There is one in particular in which a Leopard catches then kills a baby baboon. Now with this responsibility that we Humans have; as you put it. Do we shoot the Leopard to save the baby or continue to let the baby die. Even Jane herself has stated it is a huge decision on whether or not to interfere with non-human primates in the wild! Yet she has devoted her life to saving them. There's also Jokro, the death of an infant. We get to sit back and watch as a poor baby Chimp dies from what started out as a cold. The Primatologists just video and document the death. I myself found it almost perverse that nothing was done. Of course in his case the Alpha would not have allowed anyone near Jokro. So again, with our human responsibility do we dart all the adults to save him? The case with Flint was quite different, and perhaps I allowed my emotions to run too high in which case I apologize if this offended you. Just remember when dealing with wild animals in their own environment, it still presents it's own ethical issues. Unfortunately the general rule is one of non-interference.
I agree. I believe flo would have appreciated the help and it would have been really nice to see.. I'll bet little Flint rehab felt better afterwards because he would have had some kind of boundaries for himself
It's likely Flint was discovered by rival chimps and was killed and then cannibalized, or was killed by a leopard. Highly doubt he sat in the same spot for weeks, then died. Flos corpse if left to rot, would've brought on other predators, which in turn discovers our little friend Flint.
Flint was extremely unlikable, I guess it was meant to be that he died of grief after his mother died because he couldn't function and live on his own without her and he was 6 years old.
anyone know the part/timestamp or timestamp in the original in which a mother chimp whose name i forget has a baby die and she carries it on her back until she dies?
Fifi has an infant that dies some time back. However, the image of chimp mothers carrying there dead with them, usually about three days has been documented several times before.♡
Not until she dies, she will finally lay it down, she lived 3 years longer, was probably change of life baby. She was an animal, she came in heat, had a baby, she couldn't teach, and train Flint properly. Let alone a baby. The baby disappeared, Flint was by his mom all the time, that is why he was the first to know what happened. If he, a male, even from another tribe, group, there would of been, screaming and screeching from who every took it. It could of been a wild cat, ran with it. When she was having alone time. A human also may have stolen it. Who knows.
They weren't filming the chimps 24/7. In her book Goodall says Flo got sick during her time with the infant, an unusually cold and rainy period. The infant could very well have died of whatever Flo contracted, or from any number of other causes; chimp babies die of natural causes all the time.
I thought that too but, I saw a comment that said the baby went missing not to long after his birth. I think flint took the baby in the night and killed it.
Doubt it. While infanticide does happen among chimps, it's almost always instigated by the dominant male and they make a big feast out of it. They don't carry the infant off somewhere to do it in secrecy. Wild infant chimps dying is extremely common and it happens through a variety of different reasons. Usually disease. Just like how with humans pre-20th century it was extremely common for children to die of disease before age 2.
You can speculate all you want but in the book the author says the weather turned bad one night and the mom was suffering from a cold of sorts and when the weather cleared the baby was gone, possibly dying from the sickness mom had, and the cold temperatures didn't help, then the mama's heart gave out and flint grieved so much he died from a broken heart.

Grief, yeah for himself 'Flint'! The only thing he grieved over was not being first to get attention. His Sister would be right in thinking he was happy the baby was dead. As for dying of a broken heart: he died because he couldn't be arsed to get out of his nest and feed himself. I won't apologize for my comment as all that smacking and kicking of his Mother probably contributed to the death of the baby.
The baby probably succumbed to injuries (arm blow, hurled rock, etc.) from Flint's envy fuelled assaults upon his mother. Flo had one arm to protect herself while cradling the infant with the other. Stealing/kidnapping the baby from the arms of a nursing mother would be unlikely, given that it was only weeks old. Babies are not even allowed to leave mother's embrace to take their first steps until eight months. Gaps in the story/camerawork could account for this scenario.

+Mat T yes, when you put it that way then, he did die of grief, absolutely. He went against his own natural instinct to survive, by NOT feeding himself when he he must have been absolutely starving, painfully hungry! he could have lifted a hand and his head, grabbed some leaves and chewed but he could not! he died because he stopped eating and drinking. he couldn't move because his mother was dead. yes, he died of grief.

As for dying of a broken heart: he died because he couldn't be arsed to get out of his nest and feed himself. I won't apologize for my comment as all that smacking and kicking of his Mother probably contributed to the death of the baby.
This is an insane comment. These are animals, not people. The same degrees of perception do not exist and there is no moral system.
Flint passed its called attachment trauma....Flint is extremely stupid right scary Flint
Sorry but baby chimps are often kidnapped by high ranking males...and in some cases the baby is eaten by several members
HAAAA flint died of grief. Good he was a spoiled brat anyway im glad hope it was terrible.
Flint need to go on dr Fill out of control chimpanzees need's discipline
Wow I'm a str8 GOON IN THE STREETS OF BALTIMORE AND EVEN I DONT JUDGE A WILD ANIMAL CUZ HIS MOM SPOILED HIS ASS. SOME OF YOU NEED TO REALLY KEEP IN MIND JUST CUZ THERE 98 PERCENT LIKE US DONT MEAN THEY ARE US. FLINT A G
Wow so much hate for flint
I mean he could have died in some bratty way like getting pissed over less attention then trying to fight one of the males, even though he lived mostly bad, he changed in the end
The reason I was invested in him was that I was hoping he could change for the better
The Kleptoasty i know......
No such thing a dying from grief, this shit makes me fucking angry rather than tell how he really died, you don't by being sad, stop trying so hard to humanize them, there not humans & never will be something killed him a snake bite who knows.

yes, when you put it that way then, he did die of grief, absolutely.
They absolutely can and do die of grief. This is the exact reason why mountain gorillas cannot be held in captivity. They literally end up just dying from grief. Do some research before commenting on things. Don’t be a brat like Flint lol.
Here is a clip that proves Flynt killed the infant.
Where? Do you have it? I'd like to see if u do.
Thanks

Flint was evil
Killing a baby like that
@@lennarthagen3638 he didn't kill the baby. Infanticide in chimps is only practiced by dominant adult males and not in secret. Besides that, animals cannot be "evil".
@@lennarthagen3638 He didn't kill the baby. If you read the ladies book about this she said it was a cold rainy night when the mama fell sick, when the weather cleared the baby was gone, probably dying from whatever mama caught. Then the mama's heart gave out and poor flint found her lifeless body and grieved himself to death.
@@timmycook6708Sibling rivalry. Flint didnt get milk thats Why he died. Flo died of old age, she did not catch anything. Nature is no Disney movie.
@@lennarthagen3638, Flo (age 53) wasn't still producing milk for Flint (age 8) when she died.
