This was my introduction to Colin Hay. My wife and I started watching scrubs in 2007. This year (2024) we saw Colin perform live. He's 70yrs old now and still sounds the same. His music always reminds me of scrubs and garden state
The director used to play the song that would be the backing for certain scenes for the cast & crew before shoots in order to have everyone on the same page for the mood that he wanted to convey
Great John Belushi reference at the end. On a serious note though, Colin Hay still has that distinctive voice that he had in '82. Not many people can still hit their notes from thirty years prior. Overkill is still my favorite Men At Work song. And on a sadder note, R.I.P. Greg Ham. His flute/sax playing was the glue that kept Colin's lyrics and music gelled.
Greg's suicide devasted Colin...The rest of the band are a bunch of asswipes...They "threw Greg under the bus!" Let him get sued by himself, thus leading to his sad untimely demise!
Colin is still great. I saw him a year or two ago on his own and he is still an amazing musician. His weathered voice adds so much more depth to this song.
Chrsta Miller (who plays Perry's wife, Jordan) is married in real life to the show's creator Bill Lawrence was responsible for choosing the songs for the series. She also did so for his other show, Ted Lasso (where she got an emmy nomination for music supervisor.). She does the same for Shrinking and Cougar Town.
Too true. Every single one of them matched and improved the scene they were used in, very few shows can do that consistently throughout its entire run.
The creators of Scrubs must have a great taste in music. All songs I've heard on the show has been good! Men at work, The fray and Joseph Arthur are just some examples.
Actually it's Overkill by Colin Hay, who was the lead singer of an Aussie band called 'Men at Work' this version is quite hard to track down, as their album version isn't quite the same... But I think I got it off the Scrubs soundtrack in the end.
best comedy medical show hands down(Drama medical - House MD takes the cake). I've watched the entire show with my best friend 3 times start to finish and probably will watch again(except Zombie season obviously(but thats not real scrubs anyways)). Thank you Netflix!
This is actually the B side of the King Tut 45. Bought it for King Tut but fell in love with this song. Played the A side probably about 50 times, but probably wore out 3 needles playing this side over the years. So good.
This song could be made for Scrubs. However, since the song came first, Scrubs was definitely made for this song. All of Scrubs that is, not just this episode.
This show aired in my early 20’s. I’m in my 40’s now. Man how times have changed. I hope there’s something out there 20 some year olds are watching that had the same effect as this show on me. Great show. Great music. On to the next genaration.
what a great version of this song (nice mix into Scrubs) . heard someone locally do an acoustic version and went to search it on RUclips. Remember when cool lyrix, decent chord changes and a melodic line were the standard? anyhow....hope Colin's gettin' along fine - a classic.
A lot of us did...but the younger kids...it's nice we don't have to shove it down their thoughts sometimes like our parents seemed to do. They hear it, it's new to them and they like it. Feels good...
Colin Hay was the last concert I saw with my Pa. I miss him. I miss laughing with him. But too much has happened...hell I wonder if hes even alive. I just remember drinking together as we watched and laughed and sang. My dementia is getting worse though so its too late. Too late for anything. But I never stopped loving you Dad.
The first time i saw this i thought at the very end JD would go "Oh thank goodness, he's real". Like he had actually be confused the entire episode whether or not the guy was actually there or if it was all in his head.
Beginning is at the corner of Riverside Dr and Laurel Canyon Blvd in Valley Village. Pat's is still there. 4n20 is a bomb-ass diner right around the corner. I think about this scene every time I'm there. The hospital they shot was a few blocks west down Riverside Dr.
I love CH and MAW... Huge fan, so I say this respectfully... this acoustic version is better than the original recording. Hate and loathing expected and accepted towards my comment.... but I'll wear it all for a few thumbs up.
You make a very good point. Look how many 80s & early 90s rock icons can no longer really hit the same notes on their biggest hits -- Jon Bon Jovi, Joe Elliot (Def Leppard), Mark Slaughter (his voice especially went south on him). Eddie Money, even AC/DC's Brian Johnston to some extent. Maybe because guys like Colin always sang their hits in their more natural range to begin with or something. Dunno. But its sad to hear guys try to do their old stuff and suck badly at it.
Excelentes reflecciones, increibles capitulos.(en especial el de "how to save a life" historias que le lleagan a uno, una de las pocas series N americanas que son de Exelente calidad

Scrubs had some of the greatest mood music choices ever.
I'll see your Scrubs and raise you a House MD.
P.S. Loved both shows and they both had good music.
@@-TheShaun- House had a great soundtrack too but Scrubs soundtrack always hit no matter the mood and it was great at mixing comedy and drama.
The director used to play the song that would be the backing for certain scenes for the cast & crew before shoots in order to have everyone on the same page for the mood that he wanted to convey
Indeed!
".... I have other songs."
Yes, he does. And some very good songs at that.
Yea, you do.
That poor guitar ...
So young, so suddenly... 🥀🥀🥀
Down under was later in the show
Lol great episode, especially as an Australian. One of his other songs JD sings a few times, well his bands song anyway
Agreed. It's cool the way "scrubs" incorporated great music into the show. Colin is a talented guy.
normally this would be called diegetic music. this feels like something else since the in frame source keeps fading in and out of the scenes.
Colin Hay deserves more attention in my opinion.
You are so right.
He is a great musician.
right on man. I like to listen to his music in the mornings, lol. Does'nt bust the hangover wide open so bad.
more than Ariana Grand
Unfortunately, society is now fixated on Kim K and talentless gluttons like her husband.
Men at work song overkill

Saw him last week with Ringos All Star band in Denver. Nailed this vocally and other MAW songs. Great night. Ringo was good n all 👍

I love Christa.. But never knew she was the music supervisor.. She has great taste. Plus she's funny as hell.. Loving her on "Shrinking".
i miss scrubs..
watching Scrubs once every like 2 years works pretty good for me :)
It’s on Hulu.
"Especially at night
I worry over situations that
I know will be all right-
It's just overkill ..."
Perfection - absolute perfection.
Eziekle Crafts bt was he even real??? Lol 😂😂
magnifique!
Men at work song overkill
This show had one of the best soundtracks. Just amazing music all the time.
Too true. Every single one of them matched and improved the scene they were used in, very few shows can do that consistently throughout its entire run.
Scrubs was one of the best shows ever, along with Malcolm in the Middle.
110% agreed
@@manuelignaciogalafeherrera259 111% agreed.
Your move.
@@heroino89 112% I say!
Rest In Peace Colin Hay's guitar :(
"I have other songs."
@@dalekspengler944 "Yeah ya do."
If anyone deserves to have a Scrubs episode written around him, Colin is that man!
The creators of Scrubs must have a great taste in music. All songs I've heard on the show has been good! Men at work, The fray and Joseph Arthur are just some examples.
it's actually Jordan that is the one who was the music supervisor
Bill Lawrence's wife Krista Miller is the one who did all the music. She plays Jordan in the show :)
this has to be one of the most memorable episodes, this song is so emotional... it's perfect.
This show introduced me to some damn good music.
Actually it's Overkill by Colin Hay, who was the lead singer of an Aussie band called 'Men at Work' this version is quite hard to track down, as their album version isn't quite the same... But I think I got it off the Scrubs soundtrack in the end.
Colin hay, overkill, acoustic version.
Hope this helps after 17 years
Love Colin. So glad Zak helped showcase his talent to a whole new audience.
Colin Hay = Legend....Love this song especially the vocals and guitar work!
I could not love this more.

i love this song and this scrubs episode is a good one.... scrubs is the best program ever!!
best comedy medical show hands down(Drama medical - House MD takes the cake). I've watched the entire show with my best friend 3 times start to finish and probably will watch again(except Zombie season obviously(but thats not real scrubs anyways)). Thank you Netflix!
Medical drama? E/R does it for me.
Christ! Has it really been that long? Time sure goes by fast.
Something about this version makes me cry...
I thought I was the only one. I don't really know why other than the pairing brings a different depth.
Idk if I fell in love with Colin Hay because of this show or not but I know his songs are in all of my favorites episodes.
Man!... I LOVED Scrubs....this was prob the best one ever....
Brilliant Colin, just brilliant! Catching this made my night!
ahh . the good old star world .. must be years when i last saw this logo of star world .
This is so cool with Colin Hay. Such a great musician and vocalist.
Watched the entirety of scrubs during the pandemic. This episode introduced me to colin hay for the first time
Absolute genius they way they integrated this. Such a great show. Still miss it.
I love this song and especially this version. The Melody of the guitar solo is the same on "Rio" by Duran Duran!
Love this song. Very underrated singer and songwriter.
I love the show Scrubs.. So funny! This was such an added bonus to have this song on the show.
Love this. Even a million years later.
this song could make and break any sitcom...love it...beauty Colin @
Great show - Epic song - Awesome singer
This is my fav song. i hear it 10x in a row until I finally find sleep.
ive had this song stuck in my head for the past 3 hours
Gotta love the 80s. Fits right in this episode.
This is actually the B side of the King Tut 45. Bought it for King Tut but fell in love with this song. Played the A side probably about 50 times, but probably wore out 3 needles playing this side over the years. So good.
I love this song.
I love this show.
Perfect.
I seen this the other day and it's been stuck in my head since. Love this version!
This song could be made for Scrubs. However, since the song came first, Scrubs was definitely made for this song. All of Scrubs that is, not just this episode.
Oh the memories :( love this show
the best episode of Scrubs
One of them - the best - most devious - was the second time Brendan Frasier was on.
This show aired in my early 20’s. I’m in my 40’s now. Man how times have changed. I hope there’s something out there 20 some year olds are watching that had the same effect as this show on me. Great show. Great music. On to the next genaration.
always startling when someone sings your exact emotions
Another amazing song on a Top Tv Show ;-)
Lol "i have other songs." XD
That guitar smash looked SO satisfying to do hahaha. Must've felt really good too
I still love it! Bought the whole series!!! Hell yeah! :D
What a great idea! Collins voice is still brilliant, this was always my fave MAW song.
god this is the perfect combination of goodm music, humor and just plain awesomness
I had this game memorised and played it constantly on my Pc. It got me a pair of headphones from my parents due to their annoyance... I lived it!!
Can we all just agree that Scrubs was the pinnacle apex of television?
God I loved this show!!!!
This is THE best song to ever come out of scrubs. I sung this for an entire month once every day.
Colin Hay's acoustic stuff is PLENTY good! :D
"I have other songs". LOL
Великолепно! That was Awesome!
Love this song. Great clip.
i like it's version because it's smoother than the original... really lubricates the soul....lovely
I like this* version.
I knew I heard this song somewhere before.
"shh just keep it down" I just LOVE his expresion after Colin sings xD
what a great version of this song

At the start JD tries to escape from Colin Hay, by the end he has just given up and sits with him :) I love this show!
man i miss scrubs. Wish it would continue one day
Animal house! Yeah! Thank you Dr Cox.
Tellement de passage dans cette serie qui peuvent être de grand reconforts sous moultes situations! Merci a tous ceux qui y ont participé
Colin Hay was the last concert I saw with my Pa.
I miss him. I miss laughing with him. But too much has happened...hell I wonder if hes even alive.

Splendid cameo !!!
If you ever have the opportunity to see Colin Hay in concert, do it. Awesome entertainer. Great music and engrossing stories.
Can't get to sleep aswell....
this song takes me back to the old days :). It's really a great song in a great TV Show !! Thanks for posting it.
This comment is funny since this is also in the old days now
Bril!. Nuff said!. Revisted this after initiial comment. Really has helped after being in a dark place.
This is amazing.
Every now and then, I find a RUclips video that was uploaded 17 years ago and I an reminded how old this site is
He was so talented. Loved Ted.
Funny how many people seem to have learned about this guy from Scrubs. I knew that voice instantly.
He just smiled and made me a vegamite sandwich.
Colin Hay superb!
The first time i saw this i thought at the very end JD would go "Oh thank goodness, he's real". Like he had actually be confused the entire episode whether or not the guy was actually there or if it was all in his head.
