Really enjoyed watching this today! My father was Lt Rademacher in 132 for a long time before he was promoted to Captain in 298 engine before he retired in 1991. I remember as a kid riding the truck with him to jobs when he took me to work with him. He knew Lt Picconi and remembered him well when I told him last night about this and sent him the link to watch. I loved hearing the stories watching this as much as I do Dad telling me them still. Thanks Lt Picconi for your kind words about him. Makes a son proud!!
Great show again. In the future can you explain what a box exactly designates when speaking of the number of boxes. Just how it relates to a company's area of responsibility. I know its from the old fire box days but how does it relate today when theres less boxes on the streets. Is it relational to city blocks or just distance or buildings etc. Etc.
They were referring to the amount of 1st due boxes the company has. The box number is a corner intersection. Some boxes are individual locations like airports & public places etc. Each box has an associated assignment like 1st & 2nd & 3rd due engine & trucks & chiefs. When they said E230 had 24 boxes they were referring to boxes where they are the reccomended 1st due engine. The reason is because they're response area is loaded with other engine companies.
