It's not every day you get the commissioner of a major department. Great job.

Chief Hoff still regularly trains firefighters at the Illinois State Fire Academy (IFSI) both in the classroom as well as all kinds of full-on live fire training. I've trained under him and it's hard to wrap your mind around the amount of things he's seen and done and just the wealth of knowledge he possesses. As one of the most humble and down to earth people you could meet: he's the true epitome of the "firefighter's firefighter". We badly need more people like him in the fire service.
Just a few weeks ago, I got to my fire house (large county dept. with several stations way south of Chicago) for training and standing in our bays was none other than Chief Hoff. He was just there for a meeting but I made sure the all the young new guys knew exactly who he was.
I'm also a professional live audio engineer so I regularly work with all manner of celebrities, large and small, and I've honestly never been "star struck". When I got to have a conversation with Chief Hoff, in my own fire house, and he complimented us on how clean our station and rigs were; that was a damn proud moment. Chief Hoff is an absolute badass and all around hell of a guy.

I’ve taken a few classes that were taught by Chief Hoff and he is by far the most genuine and inspiring individual I’ve had the honor of meeting in my time as a FF. He truly loves what he does, and you can tell by every word.
    “Lead by example.”
Such a good show, thank you!!

This interview brought back a lot of memories of several authorized ride-along visits I made with 3 other firefighters to Chicago FD in the early 1970s. We rode at Engine 4/Truck 10 in the Cabrini projects and at Snorkel Squad 1 when they were the only squad in the city. Great times.

I was lucky enough to get to ride with my cousin on Engine 72 on the south side back in the early 2000s. I did it for years. He's and LT on engine 115 now.

As a fire fighter in one of the near south suburbs surrounding the city of Chicago I can Bob Hoff was an amazing Commissioner he cared about the residents just as much as he cared about the department. No I'm.not a chicago fire fighter. But I spent alot of time riding out there while he was in charge. He was great. Glad to see he is doing good.

Chief/Commish Hoff has to be one of the best guests on your show, ever. I've seen everyone of your broadcasts and have to say, I wish this guy was available when I was coming up (and I had some of FDNY's best showing me the ropes.) Unbelievable human being, go hook up with him in Chicago and do the Squad 5 show. Outstanding interview tonight, fellas.

I had the honor of receiving training from both Ray and Bob. I’ve had the honor of working sole fires with Chief Hoff when he made the move to the suburbs. By and large in those few instances I learned more to help me become a better firefighter.
Chief Hoff gave one of the most compelling after action briefings at a training, every mistake he attached a name to and drove the point home. And then he walked with me and we rolled hose together. Let me say thy last part over; the former commissioner and at the time deputy fire chief was shoulder to shoulder with me, a young lieutenant rolling hose after an evolution.
Seriously, an honor to have been ok the same training and fire ground as you. And god bless Ray Hoff as well.

Doing a project on Cheif Hoff for my highschool English class. This was super helpful hearing all the information from him. My dad has bumped into him a few times where he teaches so I hope I can show him my project when I’m done. I hope I have the opportunity to get taught by people just as great as him.

I can't agree more with " do that in the rig! Have your gear ( pack, etc.) on when you arrive." Be ready to go to work! All too often today I see rigs pull to a scene, especially on boxes, without gear on. Then they gotta stop, put their gear on, grab their tools and slowly walk in like it's a frigging chore. Really?
