    Great review! I just recently bought both of them, and they both have their own pros and cons; the Combo Touch is great for tablet and keyboard use, I love having a detachable keyboard so I can draw, take notes, and read more easily, but having a separate app just to update the firmware for the keyboard is not ideal. I actually had to get 2 Combo Touches since the first one had a problem with the keyboard connecting after having it detached for too long, and both combo touches i got have a problem with the trackpad freezing. Not only that but the bigger footprint isn’t ideal, and it’s not easy to use in bed or on my lap. The Magic Keyboard on the other hand doesn’t have any issues with that, it just connects and that’s it, no need to worry about a separate app to update the firmware or anything. The smaller footprint is great for me and it’s also easy to use in bed and on my lap. Plus, the USB pass through is very handy. But then there’s no protection whatsoever when you take it out and also limited angles, not to mention no function row. It really is a tough decision! I wish there could be some good in between. Right now I’m leaning towards keeping the MK and buying a case for the iPad that can work with the MK but not 100% sure.
    Update: decided to keep the MK, the Combo Touch just wasn’t worth the trouble imo. Maybe I happened to be unlucky and got two faulty Combo Touches but yeah I can’t recommend it sadly

    I was debating between the two and I opted for the Combo Touch. The Magic Keyboard is a great dock. It does what it does well. But I needed the flexibility of iPad and laptop. It protects the iPad very well. Function keys are useful and the materials are premium. Hopefully it will have a longevity.

    • @DanielHarrisCodes
      @DanielHarrisCodes 2 года назад +3

      Describing the magic keyboard as more of a dock is spot on. One thing I like about the older folio keyboard is being able to fold it back.
      The Logitech gives many of the benefits of the surface Pro range

  • @howardeastin1474
    @howardeastin1474 2 года назад +15

    I have used both the Magic keyboard and just recently bought the Logitech combo touch. After owning the combo touch for over a 24 hrs, my initial impressions is that I love the Logitech over the Magic keyboard and I will share why.
    1. Function keys….I got use to not having them on the Magic keyboard, through gestures and touching the screen to invoke Control center but when you have actual function keys, its nice to have faster input because you have dedicated keys for that action like raising the volume, screen brightness/keyboard brightness and then of course multi tasking.
    2. Protection, the Combo touch protects our iPad all the way around the device, so you don’t have to worry about the device coming apart from the keyboard and dropping. Also what’s nice about the case is that it does not show oils or scuffs from sliding on surfaces. The surface of the Combo touch is a really nice durable material and is easy to clean.
    3. The keys, all though I do prefer the typing experience on the Magic over the Combo touch, but I prefer the spacing of the keys on the touch. It may be a placebo affect, but they do feel different to me.
    4. Angles, I do prefer the angels on the Combo touch over the Magic Keyboard. I don’t ever use it at the angles that are depicted in the video, but I have used both on my lap. What I have found by using it on my lap, is that the Combo I don’t have the kickstand out on my lap which means I hold the iPad from falling on one hand and the other I use for typing …This is not ideal, but honestly, how often does someone need to use this on their lap or if you need to use it on your lap why can’t someone just use dictation?
    5. Lastly, the price, the price of the Combo touch, although still not cheap, it is cheaper than the Magic Keyboard.
    6. TracPad, both TracPad’s are nice and I do prefer the one on the Magic because its a little more precise over the Combo, but having a bigger trackpad on combo touch is nice to have.

  • @SpymarkStudio

    I got the Combo Touch for my 11” iPad Pro 2021 right when it came out, and I got so used to the function keys, larger trackpad, and the way the keyboard feels that when I tried Magic Keyboard at the Apple Store the other day just for the comparison, it felt like an inferior product. Like a downgrade. Though, I would still love a smaller footprint and an extra charging port. The Magic Keyboard is sexier, but having seen the combo touch on someone else’s iPad in a coffee shop the other day seemed kind of sexy too.

    • @SpymarkStudio
      @SpymarkStudio 3 года назад +4

      @@talhatariq6420 I have to say it’s pretty dependable in this regard. I can’t say it’s never gonna happen but it hasn’t happened to me yet. Back in 2017 when I had the Apple folio keyboard it was happening very often. It kept not responding. Then through years it got better as OS got better. I think by now the support and the software on both sides is pretty reliable, apple and logitech. However, I have a different and a bit funny problem with the keyboard. Since ipados15 sometimes when I disconnect the keyboard from the case Apple Music app starts playing a random song. It happens maybe once a week. I don’t even use apple music just Spotify so i don’t understand how disconnecting the keyboard can trigger that.

    @Cookefan59 2 года назад +9

    One of the better videos I’ve seen on this topic. I would add that a docking station solves the limited USB access.
    The angles and smaller foot print of the magic keyboard also puts the screen closer to your face.
    I have the same issue with my knuckles hitting the screen if the iPad is too close. I hate that.
    I think the Logitech is a no brainer. It seems to be way more functional and better thought out. I do wonder about those soft endpoints with the angle adjustment. It looks like if you treat it well it will probably last 2-3 years in the hands of a heavy user like myself.

    I had to go with the magic keyboard at the end of the day, the combo touches dethatch feature is nice but its bobs up and down when you write on it, which makes writing really awkward. The MK just looks so sleek as well, especially with a custom skin on it. Also if money isn't and issue, get the pitaka ipad pro case with the new folio cover, and it is compatible with the magic keyboard, so you get very similar protection to the combo touch and the detachability.

    I have used both the Magic keyboard and the combo touch. Both keyboards have pros and cons but for me the combo touch came out as the winner and here is why.
    1. Although the combo touch obstructs the use of the thunderbolt port, i still have access due to the dongle i use does not have to sit flush to the iPad for it to work. It connects via USB type c cord and its one I have used ever since owning the 2016 MacBook Pro. I also prefer the protection the combo touch offers over the Magic keyboard as I work out in the field and not behind a desk. So its nice that I don’t have to worry about dropping my iPad.
    2. The touchpad, although the touchpad on the Magic keyboard is slightly more responsive than that on the Combo touch, its nice that it is bigger and I don’t have to carry out as many finger gymnastics when pasting and copying notes.
    3. The price. Cheaper is cheaper, and right now savings is king with the added cost of everything due to inflation. It’s nice that the Combo touch is cheaper and offers more like a function row, non obstructed typing, more viewing angles, and the materials do not take on oils and smudges as easily.
    I work in field sales, visiting multiple stores in my assigned territory. The combo touch I feel is just more suited for my workflow than the Magic keyboard. Not to take anything away from the Magic keyboard, i just feel the Magic Keyboard is just more suited for those working in a stationary environment.

      Just to sway your decision a bit, I’m typing this on a Apple magic keyboard and the aesthetic reasons sell me. Not only that, but it’s infinetly more intuitive. The way the iPad just connects to the case magnetically and works right away is what makes the keyboard feel like an extension to the iPad. I can easily take off the iPad and put it back on without tussling with the case itself. Given its design, the Logitech keyboard really limits you on where you can use it. The Logitech keyboard may be more practical, but the magic keyboard is far more intuitive.

    To me, I went with Logitech because the dealer breaker was the magic keyboard has no protection around the edges. My iPad is always in my backpack to and from school! Even on my my motorcycle in my bag, there’s lots of movement. The combo touch I can detach the keyboard as well and has a row of functions gives me more of a laptop feel. The only thing I hate is the hinge of the combo touch makes it tricky for “lap” use so I’m limited with where I can use it as a laptop if not at a table if using on my lap I just pop the keyboard off and use as a tablet :( but Atleast my iPad is protected !

    Great video. I think the footprint and angle adjustments on the Magic Keyboard are too necessary for QOL. I think I'd get frustrated with the footprint of the Logitech, even though the case and kickstand would be really nice for writing and that layer of protection. and then having the thunderbolt port on the hinge side is just too cool. I think they are both equally impressive.

    Just got the combo touch for my 2021 iPad Pro and I really like it. If the magic keyboard didn’t cost double the decision would’ve been more difficult. With the features of the combo touch and the price point it isnt’t a comparison in my opinion. Sure the magic keyboard looks nicer, but it doesn’t offer protection, and at that price point it is a massive oversight by apple.

      When Apple products are not perfect, that’s because they don’t want them to be. Look for logical applications of this principle. WRT minimal protection for iPad in $300 keyboard case… they want you to drop it, as that means you will NEED apple care, after investing laptop money on a tablet…

    The magic keyboard really puzzles me: lots of added weight for minimal protection, and it makes it impossible / uncomfortable to use one of the iPad Pro’s main features - the pencil. Though the Combo Touch looks like it flexes too much when laying almost flat - it’s not great if your drawing surface moves, and I’d be concerned about the longevity of the hinge.

    I have both keyboards and like both but overall I prefer the Apple keyboard.. I prefer the protection of the Logitech but I prefer how the Magic Keyboard places the iPad Pro much closer to you. If I am traveling I prefer the Logitech as the I am afraid that the White Apple keyboard will get dirty and if in the unlikely case that it dropped the Logitech would provide more protection. Another advantage of the Logitech is that if I am using the iPad without a keyboard then I prefer the protection of the Logitech. I am most likely to drop the iPad if it is not on a keyboard. In actual use I find myself changing almost daily in between keyboards which makes me crazy but I switch cases on my iPhone so I should calm down about this and enjoy both cases for different uses.

    Look, I loved the Logitech case. I got one for my first iPad and another one for the iPad Pro. But let me tell you. It’s not worth it. The edges in my first case, as well as the parts next to the speakers, started stretching out. I though this was because maybe I had accidentally pulled on them, so when I got the second case (hitch is even thinner around the edges) I made sure not to touch them. Still, I had the same exact problem. It’s gotten so bad that one of the edges actually broke, and its stretching out to the point of showing the Inter parts of the case. I got the Logitech keyboard for the cheaper price, kickstand, and very importantly, protection. But if the edges are breaking they might as well not be there. I also checked on Reddit, and this has happened to an extent to so many people. Its ridiculous that a product this expensive breaks within less than a year of purchase, and although I checked and it has warranty, a replacement unit would have the same issue. The case also completely stopped working after the iOS 16 update, and as a student I can’t afford to not be able to write for a week. If you’re on a budget a mouse and a Bluetooth keyboard works wonders. I’ve been using them and it’s incredibly comfortable. I do give points to Logitech in that they have been able to give me a refund, since it has a 2 year warranty, but that’s all I can say about it. The case was really really good while it lasted, but it has no longevity. 2/10

    I bought both, but kept the Apple Magic Keyboard. The Logitech is awkward to use on a lap - you have to keep your knees close together and push the keyboard right up into your belly, and the screen feels much further away. The Magic Keyboard also wins on a cramped desk or plane/train tray table.
    The Logitech needed a much harder press on the trackpad to register clicks, it was only working for me 1 in 4 presses. It is more versatile though and the material is much more durable.

    1. Make sure your iPad is not just simply a tablet device to you and you will actually find need for a keyboard

    This was a very well done comparison; you covered all of the differences better than any review I have seen. One small thing that would have been useful - the distribution of total weight in the Logitech between the case and the keyboard. I want to know how much weight is added to the iPad when the keyboard is detached. The case makes the iPad grippier when holding in portrait mode with one hand to read. That has to be traded off against the extra weight it adds, making it more tiring to hold up.

    Logi Combo for me ,better protection when out and about , also no one I have watched so far mentions you can remove the Logi keyboard and plug it in backwards and use it for a stand in bed for viewing content or just fold it up against the back of the case for the reading experience . The Logi keyboard also has more room between the function keys and the screen stoping you from accidentally hitting the screen when typing something that can be annoying if you lose an email you are typing . To me the Logi is an all around better pro keyboard . When I am typing it is more the laptop experience with bigger trackpad and just nicer feel . I haven’t had to many issues with it freezing but I don’t have it disconnected for long and happy to use the on screen keyboard in combo when in the iPad mode as I an usually only typing comments like this or short emails . There is room for improvement but neither keyboard has it all . I just like the Logi as it has the most options and the price point makes sense
