    Update comparison: ruclips.net/video/Yils3qJlcKg/видео.html Yes, the Logitech works with the 2018 and 2020 iPad Pro but does obscure the speakers a little bit. NO, the Air 4 will not work because it will cover the Touch ID.

    A couple extra useful functions on the Folio and Combo Touch keyboards: If you hold down the lock and Vol- function keys simultaneously for a few seconds, you can get to the power off screen; and pressing the lock and Vol+ keys simultaneously will take a screenshot, instead of having to reach up and press the somewhat hard to press buttons on the case itself to do the same functions.

    Great review. I looked hard at the Apple Magic Keyboard and decided this was a better product for these reasons:
    1. That top row of function keys is very handly. I had a Logitech Slim Folio for 4 years for an earlier iPad Pro 12.9 and wouldn't want a keyboard without it.
    2. The Magic Keyboard doesn't fold open completely flat like the Logitech Combo Folio does.
    3. Also, this LCF's detachable keyboard clings flat to the back of the ipad and is very nice for use in tablet mode.
    4. This was the killer - when you take the iPad out of the Magic Keyboard case, it's completely unprotected from scratches, dings, spilled coffee, etc. No thanks. The Logitech is superior.

    I have the Combo Touch for the older 10.5” iPad Pro and it’s awesome. A bit heavy, but the keyboard separating from the case-kickstand was an awesome feature. I’m glad Logitech decided to replicate the detachable design for the new 11”and 12.9” Combo Touch case.

    The only thing going for the Magic keyboard in my mind, is the stand elevates the ipad a little, so you do not have to look down at the screen (as much) as on the Logitech. But the other pros more than weigh up for this. Especially considering in our home market (Norway) the Magic is very nearly twice the cost of the Logitech.

    I didn’t know about being able to reverse the keyboard and keep it attached when I bought the combo touch. Logitech should showcase that in its advertising. But when I discovered it upon arrival, I knew it was superior to the Apple version. I subbed. You’re the only reviewer who calls this out.

  • @gp873

    I was able to get both and I would say aesthetically, the magic keyboard is superior but functionally, the Logitech.
    If you want an actual laptop replacement with a “futuristic” look because of the floating design, then you go with the magic keyboard. It feels like an actual laptop with this case.
    The Logitech feels more like a tablet with a keyboard rather than a “laptop” however, the detachable feature is awesome by itself. Logitech trackpad is also not as smooth just a tad bit.

    I Ordered the combo touch which is coming in a few days. I really wanted the Magic Keyboard but after owning 2 Keyboard folios that started to peel ( apple couldn’t do anything to help ), i decided to go with something else. The magic keyboard seems to have the same rubber coating that goes bad after a few months

  • @mb-watches
    @mb-watches 3 года назад +2

    Good review, didn’t know that you can sort of flap back the keyboard to the back.
    Ordered that one for my M1 12,9. I do write a lot with the Apple Pencil but also need a keyboard for mails and RUclips studio. So I went for the Logitech as I hate to take off the iPad from the magic keyboard. As well: I use it really for work so I have to carry it from one meeting to Another or as well in the shop floor so i really want it protected. Something I cannot get from Apple.
    I wished they included the lil flap they have in the 11” version which actually protects the pencil while carrying it around. Let’s see how it will work out the next weeks in use, thanks for the good overview

    I just received mine. It’s awesome. All other considerations aside, I want to protect my inve$tment. This is a no brainer! Previously the choice was get a protective case (Zugo) or a connected keyboard like the Apple one. This is the best of all possible worlds, currently.
    I do a lot of drawing so the detachable aspect really rocks and I can either put the keyboard aside or fold it under, if I’m out and about. The typing experience is far more than adequate and in 5 minutes I was in disbelief that I had used the onscreen keyboard for so many years. I love, love, love the trackpad.
    M only concern was that typing while on your lap was allegedly problematic. I find that if I fold one leg over the other and set the case so that my kneecap sits between the lower half of the case’s back and the bottom of the flip out wing, it’s perfectly stable. I wouldn’t do this for long periods of time, but for writing a comment on RUclips, like I’m doing now, or popping off an email, it’s just fine and dandy. If I’m going to be typing for long periods I’d rather be sitting at a desk or table and maintaining good posture.

    I think it's great, the trackpad seems to work surprisingly well, unlike most 3rd party iPad keyboards, I do have a few things to say though.
    u said you could completely detach it from the keyboard and use it in full tablet mode, I mean u could do the exact same thing with apple's keyboard. And about that row of function keys, back when I was an all iPad user, I had a 3rd party keyboard with function keys, and tbh I rarely found myself using them. I used command space for spotlight, I never used the virtual keyboard, I used command h to exit applications, and I had my iPad turn off whenever I closed the case so I never used the power key either. I only found myself using function keys for adjusting volume, and rarely for brightness, as I had True Tone enabled.
    I think getting a better looking, first party keyboard is worth the trouble of pressing the physical buttons on the iPad or going into the control center to adjust volume, for me at least. I would still get Logitech's keyboard though as I would save a 100 bucks lol.
    great video btw 🙌

How could you, Apple, neglect those so much needed keys from your Magic Keyboard? And You Apple, charge a lot more?. I was just about to search for a Logitech review for this Combo Touch….and Das Jerry popped into the test lab and show us the wonders of the Combo Touch. Just in the nick of time. I will order it tomorrow first thing in the morning. Even before I order the new 2021 iPad Pro. The reason being is that I have yet to decide what options I’d like in the new device. I honestly don't know why more case companies don't add the feature of the Kickstand which can separate from the Keyboard, its such a brilliant design, but can be very scarce on Amazon Uk etc. I was always on the Zagg Slim Book designs which were perfect, but these days they seem to be slow at releases in Europe market, so I've decided to drop them and buy the Combo Touch. Specifically purchased because it separates and has a kickstand (for lying in bed watching on your chest, watching at a table)...fantastic product from Logitech and meets all my needs.

    I have the 12.9 case since 3 days now and I can say that the quality is really nice and the keyboard is perfect as is the trackpad. HOWEVER: this thing adds a lot of weight to the already more heavy 12.9 2021 Ipad pro. it actually adds another 300+ grams, I measured 1040 grams without the keyboard. So you will really feel it. For all 12.9 use cases this is fine, it can also rest nicely on the lap with the fold holding it in reading position. But it makes your 12.9 a 2-hands device, one handed you need gorilla arms to hold it. With the full keyboard, you have 1.45kg of weight.
    The tablet is nicely snug in the rubber fold. Writing on it is good and it is protected and nicely on the desk. But you cannot get it out quickly and easily. I think it is good, but it is the necessary compromise of weight vs. protection vs. quality vs. handling you have to make, especially on the large 12.9.

    • @eknight2904
      @eknight2904 3 года назад

      @@coolcat6544 I am slowly getting used to it. The use goes to two handed, though. Upside is the resting position on the lap with the kickstand, better than holding. Also, I am large enough to use with keyboard on my lap. Upside is that it feels better on the desk. I think for more pure one handed tablet use the recommendation is to use an 11 inch without a keyboard, but also in that case I think the pro is overkill and the air or normal the better choice. I keep my old air 1 for the couch potatoe use, the 12.9 is clearly best for artist use and laptop exchange. A kickstand case for only 100g additional weight would be a winner 👀

      I have been reading on forums that it drains battery. Is it true?

    • @eknight2904
      @eknight2904 2 года назад +1

      @@kshitijraina I cannot say as I do not have a comparison. Three things I found with this device: first, it is not suitable to take off and on, this is quite hard to do and if you do it wrong you can even damage the iPad, hence I left it on the whole time. As the back cover provides a good option for putting it onto your knees as a kick stand or onto the table to avoid movement while drawing/writing, I never take it off. Second, the keyboard quite often freezes on the mouse pointer, you can easily revive it with a single keystroke, but still this is pretty annoying. Third, the borders of the rubber that frames the speaker holes on the left side both bulge out - either this is specific to my device or common, I do not know (does not happen on the right side), but clearly is a design error. Not a big deal, but for the price of the device it is a negative. Overall it is a compromise, probably one you have to make. Not sure if the Apple keyboard is better, because if you remove the iPad from it, you have no protection and no flat rest on table due to the camera bulge (bad design by Apple for a tablet).

    I got the previous Logitech Touch Keyboard instead of this new detachable one. Currently the Logitech goes for $145, but about a week ago it was $120, and I don't feel that the ability to detach the keyboard is worth $70. I feel like I would have the keyboard attached the majority of the time anyways. The last Gen-model also has the little flap for your pencil; where I will say that it doesn't feel like the magnet would ever become week enough for the pencil to fall off (it is seriously on there!)... its nice to have! I think the older model is worth it at the $120...

  • @drscrubs

    A couple negatives for the Combo Touch. The footprint the Combo Touch takes up is much much larger than the Magic Keyboard. You have the keyboard which is basically the dimension of the IPad Pro + the distance the tablet leans back + the distance of the kickstand protruding out back. 99% NOT something to use on the lap. And even on a desk, you better not have anything behind the iPad as you set it down. The Magic Keyboard’s footprint is only a little bigger than the size of the iPad itself. Much more compact.
    The other negative is the cut out for the Thunderbolt port is too small. If any cables, dongles etc is not deep enough, you cannot plug it in. Logitech should have left that portion wide open.
    Also the trade off of having nice thick bumpers is you cannot use adapters like the one from Anker that plugs into the USB C port and provides more ports or SD/micro SD card reader access. You have to use a dongle that has a cable.

    • @JerrySchulze
      @JerrySchulze  3 года назад +1

      Absolutely agree on the footprint. As for cables I havnt had an issue with any of mine. I have Apple Anker and some others.

    • @williamrodriguez6502

      Agree 100%, i wanted to keep the Logitech but the footprint was the reason i decided to return and keep the magic keyboard. If you want to use the iPad on your lap or use in a plane the additional footprint of the Logitech would be an issue.

    Great review mate, really pointed out a lot of important points, i just thought you missed one - how good is the logitech (12.9 inch) when used on the lap? As the kickstand doesn’t have a lot of center weight, i think the case could be a little messy when used in the lap, compared to Apple’s. What has your experience been regarding this? Thanks

    Excellent video, Jerry, thank you! After watching a number of different videos you've helped me to finally decide to go for the Logitech. But I have one concern. Since Apple has decided to remove the headphone jack I'll want to also buy a USB-C hub. But I've heard that certain hubs may not connect well to the Logitech port because of the surrounding case. Have you any insight into that issue, please? 👍

    I’ve got the combo touch and overall it’s great, the two things that give me pause however are the kickstand and back fabric; the kickstand doesn’t feel like a hinged piece of metal but instead one that is being bent back and forth, my concern is that it will eventually loosen and snap, it also doesn’t have a clear stop point when opening it out so can be opened too far putting excess strain on the hinge/metal. The back fabric on mine has already started to crease and come away from the metal at the ‘hinge’ point and you can hear the adhesive separate as you open and close the kickstand.
    Have you experienced either of these with yours? Wondering if I have a defective unit.

    • @ReFreshRC
      @ReFreshRC 3 года назад +5

      I have the same thing with the fabric making a crease and I can hear the adhesive separating. I guess it's just the design of the hinge - it's not perfect.

    Thanks for this review! I’m curious about one thing: I had the Combo Touch case for an older 2nd-gen iPad Pro 12.9, and it was mostly great… except that when the keyboard cover was closed, when carrying the iPad Pro by its "spine" (the opposite side of the volume buttons) you could inadvertently trigger the Play button on the hardware keyboard! I can’t count how many times that random songs started playing while I was carrying my iPad or when it was in my backpack. It was the ONE infuriating thing about that design. This keyboard case looks scarily similar to that case, so I’m concerned if it has the same problem. Would you please try testing that?

    Hello, I have the magic keyboard currently, I don’t like that my pencil comes off super easy, already lost one and had to buy another. I don’t like there are no function keys. I work in a clean room environment so my question to you about this keyboard is what is the “durable material” you highlight in the video? Is it a cloth type or just textured plastic. I cannot use a cloth case inside a clean room environment. Otherwise, thanks so much for the comparison video… it highlights the function keys but seems the lack of pencil safety is still a negative for me… :(
