I bought both and after trying both I am returning the Magic Keyboard and keeping the Logitech. Main reasons are the more options for tablet orientation from flat to viewing. Second is the typing experience for me was close enough to not deter me from Logitech. The last reason it the top row of buttons. I use these buttons frequently. Just my two cents. Have a good day.

The absolute deal breaker here has to be that the magic keyboard offers zero protection if you want to use the apple pencil. Like its design completely hinders your ability to use the pencil, it may as well not have a cutout for it. The combo touch’s versatility makes it by far the better choice, thats without the fact that here in the UK the combo touch is also £164, thats almost £200 cheaper!!! A no brainer for artists

Traveling back in time….I originally purchased the Logitech Combo Touch for my M1 12.9 iPad Pro. Now moving forward, my Logitech Combo Touch keyboard started to malfunction. The letters wore off of some of the well-worn keys. I do use the keyboard a lot. Also, the rubber along the corners of the Logitech Combo Touch bent outward and formed loops. The volume rubber also bent away. So I bought an Apple Magic Keyboard and haven’t looked back. I love it! ❤

If you are worried about style - go with the apple MK
If you think to get the most out of the iPad - stick to Logitech CT.

I just bought an iPad Pro and I was dead set on buying the Magic Keyboard. However, the store that I went to had the Combo Touch on stock, so for some reason, I decided to buy it last minute instead. I do not regret it at all. I thought that it would be less immersive because the tablet was not floating, but I don’t feel it. I also have more confidence when using and transporting the iPad because of the case. It also does not feel bulky or heavier than the magic keyboard. What I appreciate the most though is that the keyboard is detachable and that there’s a kickstand so I can use it in many orientations without the keyboard. I don’t regret getting this great product while saving money!

Your answer is in your question. ‘Good feature’ means different to different manufacturers. Apple focused on the floating experience more. I had the Logitech Combo Touch for a year and recently sold it and got the Magic Keyboard. Here’s why. The way I use my iPad Pro has changed because I got the new 14” Macbook and the Logitech setup became too similar to the actual laptop and too big for me. I would prefer taking my computer and have that on my lap while writing on a couch or on a lap. Logitech is not very useable when you want to have it laid on you. Logitech keyboard is great when you have it spread out on a table. But then why not use a laptop. I realized I used the ipad more without the Logi keyboard just as a tablet in the past few months. So I switched and I use it way more on my lap now, sitting on a couch or in the bed with the keyboard when typing. It’s more portable and comfortable than laptop, yet I get a great quality keyboard. I can also just pick it up while open with one hand and move it aorund the house without the keyboard flapping around and loosing it’s type-ready shape. I also really enjoy taking it off the case and use it naked. After having the Combo Touch for a year, always on, I forgot how light the iPad actually is, which also changed how I use it a lot. I just hold it in my hand naked when consuming content. I was honestly tired of the way it’s difficult to open the Combo Touch and then the second step of spreading out the kickstand made me use it less. It’s those unconscious micro-decisions that made me not want to use the Combo Touch’s keyboard so often unless I knew I was going to sit behind a table. In which point I prefer Macbook. So in my opinion, Magic Keyboard makes the iPad more portable and table-y. You get the advantages you should get with having such light and portable device. With Logitech Combo Touch, iPad feels more like a computer. It is great, the keyboard is great, the weight is similar to Magic Keyboard, I would still highly recommend it, it just depends on your style of use. When you detach the keyboard you are left with a little bulky tablet with a kickstand. While it was useful to have the function keys and I really miss those, for my use, Magic Keyboard is a better choice now.

The big deciding factor is whether you want to be able to use the iPad naked, that is benefit of how light it is, or you want to keep it in the case all the time, because you are scared of dropping it... Extracting the iPad from the case is a pain, so if you want to use it naked the MK is a much better solution. Another factor is whether you want to use it on your lap or not. I have both keyboards and for my use case the MK is much better and I also definitely prefer the key feel. The trackpad is pretty similar...

I chose the Magic Keyboard for the 11” iPad Pro. Recently I replaced my 2017 10.5” iPad Pro, for which I had Apple’s Folio Keyboard. It is significantly lighter than the Magic Keyboard, and like the Magic Keyboard it provides no protection for the sides of the iPad-so I’ve dealt with that limitation. The Folio developed connectivity issues after about two years; I had replaced it once and the second one was failing. I wanted something that would be more substantial. (Apple seems to have addressed those connectivity issues with the smart connectors and magnets in the newer iPads.)
The deciding factor was which keyboard would work best when I held the iPad in my lap as I do much of the time. The smaller footprint of the Magic Keyboard was the better choice.
The Magic Keyboard is heavy! I like using it, but carrying the iPad with it is like carrying a laptop.
As for the price, I was able to find a retailer that would match Amazon’s price.

  • @TheAceOfCubs
    @TheAceOfCubs 3 года назад +13

This was a hard choice, but I ultimately went for the Magic Keyboard to use as a laptop. It’s sturdier, holds better on my lap, comes with a USB-C port and detaches smoothly when I switch cases, which I will get to. The only issue I have is the lack of function keys. I rarely used them on my previous laptops, but it’d still be nice to have that option.
My second case, ESR Rebound Magnetic Case, is what I use for drawing and taking notes. I love how the clasp from the case protects my Apple Pencil whenever I carry my iPad around. I’m aware you can transform the Logitech Case from laptop to drawing, but, to me, it just seemed bulkier and doesn’t offer protection for my Pencil.
There is no right or wrong answer between Magic Keyboard and Logitech as they are great products. It’s what fits in your lifestyle.

  • @SuperSocks7
    @SuperSocks7 3 года назад +4

i initially bought the combo touch for school work with a 12.9 inch pro. but after using it just shy of a month with heavy use, i’m switching to the apple keyboard. The smaller footprint is a huge thing for me, on top of this the logitech keyboard has shown continuous and regular errors and glitches while being used, often requires g me to disconnect and reconnect the keyboard or turn the ipad on and off. It was surprising when i found these glitches were purely physical from the keyboard and not from the software of the ipad. At the end of the day while the logitech is more versatile and cheaper, its still £230, and thats still a lot of money, and if something at that price range is gonna start failing after just under a month i’m not gonna keep it around to see if it gets worse. Sure i may miss the function keys but they can be skipped with commands, touch gestures and the control centre, so its no huge biggie. The other problem was the bulk of the logitech. In handheld mode the ipad became heavy and unpleasant for longer periods of time, and i’ve found that i’m at the stage in which heavy protecting for my ipad is rarely required. That’s why i opted to also by a smart folio case. Since it is magnetic just like the keyboard it means i can use the ipad for drawing, watching movies/shows, reading in handheld with ease. This solution of buying two expensive products and ditching the cheaper logitch isn’t for everyone but i’ve learnt that ‘buy it nice or buy it twice’ is probably most true in the tech world, and at the end of the day its done wonders for me. If i’m gonna go on a plane i can leave the keyboard in my bag and just enjoy the flight with the thin, light smart folio. but if i’ve got to type up an essay it takes seconds to switch from ipad to laptop. And while it cost me a few extra bucks its the best decision i could have made for my ipad, as it has become significantly nicer, lighter and more efficient to use. both in the keyboard and the smart folio case.

I have the combo touch for the 12.9 and the magic for the 11. After using both, I lean more towards the magic keyboard because I use the iPad more with a lap or as a tablet, and it is far simpler to separate the iPad from the keyboard with the magic keyboard for quick tablet use on the table.
Not saying the combo touch is not a good keyboard, but if the primary use is for on-table use, then it is a perfectly usable keyboard plus a protective case. It is more versatile in terms of angling, plus it offers the functions row. But if you primarily use it on top of the non-flat surfaces, small spaces, or your lap, then splurge a bit more, and you should not regret it.

    Pros:
    Logitech - Protective Case
Logitech - Extra Row of keys
    Logitech - Lower price
Apple - Power Port on Keyboard frees up iPad port
Apple - Can rest on your lap
Apple - Can use any and every cable or hub attached to iPad port
    Apple - Better keys
    Apple - Better Touchpad
    Cons:
Logitech - Protective Case restricts what cables you can use due to the opening for the iPad port is very narrow.
Logitech - Protective Case eliminates the ability to use hubs that connect directly to the iPad
Logitech - Cannot use on your lap at all, simply falls over.
Logitech - Takes up more space then the footprint of the iPad
    Apple - No protection
Apple - Costs a bit more
For my use it's a no brainer and the Apple Magic Keyboard wins easily. I must be able to use it on my lap and when on my desk I want to be able to run power without taking up the iPad port. And, I must be able to use the accessories I want to use and not be limited to what will fit due to the a case being too narrow at the port. If Logitech fixes the above things I'll get one for sure, as I really do like Logitech products.

Look, I loved the Logitech case. I got one for my first iPad and another one for the iPad Pro. But let me tell you. It’s not worth it. The edges in my first case, as well as the parts next to the speakers, started stretching out. I though this was because maybe I had accidentally pulled on them, so when I got the second case (hitch is even thinner around the edges) I made sure not to touch them. Still, I had the same exact problem. It’s gotten so bad that one of the edges actually broke, and its stretching out to the point of showing the Inter parts of the case. I got the Logitech keyboard for the cheaper price, kickstand, and very importantly, protection. But if the edges are breaking they might as well not be there. I also checked on Reddit, and this has happened to an extent to so many people. Its ridiculous that a product this expensive breaks within less than a year of purchase, and although I checked and it has warranty, a replacement unit would have the same issue. The case also completely stopped working after the iOS 16 update, and as a student I can’t afford to not be able to write for a week. If you’re on a budget a mouse and a Bluetooth keyboard works wonders. I’ve been using them and it’s incredibly comfortable. I do give points to Logitech in that they have been able to give me a refund, since it has a 2 year warranty, but that’s all I can say about it. The case was really really good while it lasted, but it has no longevity. 2/10

Of these, the combo touch gets closer to the spirt of the iPad Pro. It at least gives you the option to use a keyboard in a position that would allow you to write or sketch notes. Any keyboard solution that doesn’t do this is inhibiting the very reason to get the device. I personally have a simple folio cover which I place at a 30 degree angle and a Bluetooth keyboard. I do math heavy work so sometimes I like to type and sometimes I like to use my stylus to clarify the math or draw a diagram. Is it a bit less portable? Yes, but both easily fit in a slim messenger bag.

I bought the Folio Touch first. Loved it for one day but hated taking off the keyboard part, how bulky it seemed, and the kickstand was cool but takes up alot of room on a table and doesnt sit well on your lap. When I decided to take it off it bent my ipad.
Wasnt going to buy the magic keyboard but Bestbuy had a crazy sale over the weekend and got a new 12.9 keyboard for $199. (I know crazy) But I am in love with it. Only thing that I hate is the lack of function keys.

For me the combo touch is magnificent! The fact that I can detach the keyboard, flip out the kickstand and prop it up on one knee to view is amazing but not only that but with it propped on my knee I can actually attach the keyboard and lay it out and I am typing this in that configuration right now and I can still lay back against my pillow without any issue and no wobble. For me that super comfy. I literally have the kickstand out maybe halfway out and propped on my one knee and got the keyboard attached to it laying slightly angled up and my hands are resting comfortably and having no issue. I guarantee that you cannot do that with the magic keyboard. For me this is how I use this keyboard and case setup and I am super comfy lol :D it works for me.

I have been imagining a theoretical version of an iPad Pro case that would combine the best of these two, the stability of the magic keyboard but the flexibility/different use cases of it. Basically it’s the combo touch but the keyboard has an opening hinge similar to the magic keyboard, but is still removable. It would also have a slightly stronger hinge on the back for the stand (so it’s more stable when using keyboard and when you pull off the keyboard, also in the case of someone using it to take notes, it would support their hand better if they wanted it at a small angle), and should the latter work it’s a 50/50 on whether or not you would need the stronger opening hinge cause the back one could support it, but if you wanted to use it in a smaller footprint, then you would still need the opening hinge to keep it up but not take up as much space. Anyways I’m probably going to be getting the Combo Touch in a few months should I need it for school, and can’t wait to try it out
