you have no clue how hard this is to do. when you do marching band, especially drums or percussion, you have to count, march, and make sure you are in time.
My high school drumline is sort of borrowing this. It's too good to not play. It's SO MUCH FUN. Cleanliness doesn't really matter when it's a bunch of high schoolers getting down to a groovy beat.
Cole Hintermeister Cole, Thanks for the nice comment. You guys will have a blast with this. Have fun! Post a video of your band playing it and share it with me. thx
Mason Bose I agree nothing sloppy looks good or sounds good even at the high school level they should be playing as clean as possible it's not all about fun groovy beat. I guaranty you if one drumline played this cadence all sloppy and dirty but while having fun and another drumline played the cadence clean and good and also had fun not only would the clean drumline have the same amount of fun as the dirty drumline but they would also sound better and look better.
when it comes down to it, drumline is about performing for people. if you sound dirty and sloppy performing, then no one will take your seriously. all there is to it
I like watching the originals, and other high schools play it. My hs plays this so often and it’s so much fun. Other band members (outside of percussion) love joining in on the fun too. The hype it gets at games it amazing, truly one of the most iconic cadence ever.
My school gets credit for its band most of the time(from all the fundraisers), but when I see other peoples school not supporting their band I just wanna send our extra money to them ;-;
I was stunned when the Ernie hat guy and the Cookie Monster hat guy did it together. That was amazingly clean. I would swear they were being controlled by something to be that perfectly clean. Sounded like only one person was playing... and even that's hard to make really clean. That was awesome. I love playing this.
My brother got to play the quads for this multiple times, I’m quite proud & I just get so excited & nostalgic for my own marching band days when I hear this :)
Brings backk sooo many memories🥲 first time hearing this song in elementary school is so nostalgic. Everytime they play this song I will forever love hearing it 10x louder please😅! Been looking for the name of it for so long but now I finally found it 🥲 thank lorddd
First words out of my mouth: What the hell is this? (Around 0:05) Second words out of my mouth: Holy shit I was wrong to think that about this, that's insane what they just did. (Around the end)
I played this with our tenor player for the first time on Friday. Sure, I was on snare, but that was probably one of the most exciting things I’ve done in band. Don’t worry though, next year’s the year for quints, and it’s gonna be awesome.
Thanks everyone for taking this little clip past 30,000 hits! The students love their music and do a great job! Check out this past year's version of JIG 2 - " the Redux"....
I was in marching band and the drum line always hyped us up. During games after we would get off the field the drumline would challenge the other drumline to a challenge. Now that was fun
I don’t really think there’s a story behind them because most bands if they do this they usually have colored hats, but idk if there is a story behind it or not
Sophia Milne It’s drumline, it’s a cultural thing that they will always have a bunch of inside jokes. My drumline has a bunch of voice lines that they say during our marching performance, it’s all stuff they added in. Right when our part three is counted off I always hear them raise there sticks at the same time and say “god save us all.”
Everyone needs to quit saying how dirty it is...Because if you actually tried playing it, it is hard...I am in drumline and I know how it feels to try to play it because I'm a cymbal player and i can't even play it so y'all should give them slack!!
i know the feeling, im a snare player myself, although i did learn the tenor part, ( several wrist cramps later ), it is extremely fun, and you can do a lot with it
Imma cymbal and one preformance none of our bass brums came so i became a bass drum that day (not counting the 17 tomes i messed up) but it was good just getting shoved into that spot 4 minutes before
i´m a band student in middle school still got a long way to go and this pulled up in my recommendations and now i can´t stop watching these videos. im in love with this lol
Everyone is saying how dirty it is, but have you actually tried doing it at the tempo they are playing at? It is extremely hard. Although I am a bass drum, a tenor in the drumline I'm in tries to do this and while he is close he usually has to play it at a slower tempo
***** I'm sorry can you play it? Don't talk trash thinking an alumni of the school won't see it. I can easily talk smack about your high school, but I have class. Moron
One freshman from my line is on cymbals currently but he can play the solo at full speed, just a little sloppy. He said that he has full-sized tenor practice pads and it took him a long time to perfect the solo. I guess they need a bit more practice but I would rather get all of my show songs completely perfect and memorized before I start looking at stand tunes, so I can't blame them.
You must have pretty low standards. This is trash for tenors. I can play this faster. I choose not to because this cadence makes my ears want to bleed. It's repetitive and plain ugly sounding. Most drumlines with actual good standards know about this like and their trash cadences.
Omg it is so great to see the original. Ive been meaning to look it up for forever now. The drumline at my school does it at every game and its such an amazing way to hype up the crowd
So I know two of my School's five drum majors and they ALWAYS play the beginning tune at the end of pep rallies. Eventually, after the drummers have played it two or three times, the whole band chimes in and plays the tune too. It's really cool, sometimes the two drum majors I know, at the end of pep rallies, will have a "competition" where the increase their tempo in playing the beat. Two really fun guys to hang out around and they are also in theater. Also, another two of my friends are the only Melophone players and they have their own thing they play as a bit of a solo in the tune after the whole band joins.
Ok listen here. You hear all these comments about how "Oh youre playing it wrong oh blah" Well drumming isnt always about being right. That sounds weird but let me explain. Ive been drumming for 8 years now and over the time of playing set and marching snare, you gotta change some stuff up a bit. My drumline never plays whats always on the music, we change stuff up cuz we have the flexibility to do so. These guys saying youre wrong were taught that everything is one thing and only one thing (which is the case in some things) but if thats how you were taught than there yah go. I say it was rockin so fuck all these other guys :3
i relate to this so much, i play quad toms and we were preparing for a parade and there was no music for the quads so i just played what i thought sounded right
That is very kind! I am just the videographer so all kudos to our students and directors. Thank you for your nice words and for taking time to comment. Come back often!
Sharon my HS drumline is great, they had a drum off recently with our rival school (who has the best drumline in multiple counties around us) and they did it in a whataburger parking lot at this band event. Our drumline bested our a trick where they set up all the bass drums like a huge tenor said and has our tenor solo on them.
To think that the freshman in this video are about to graduate college and the seniors in this video are well out of college or at graduate school . . .
