    You got my attention with this very record, Mr. Townsend. Thank you for recording and releasing it! It's the only one that makes me feel like crying of passion, joy and longing but I guess that's exactly the point! Devin Townsend, an exceptional artist, writer and singer, especially the latter!!!
    I bow before you!

      It's called a "wall of sound" - very few bands get it right, but it's magical when it works.
      The first time I heard that term was with Blind Guardian's "A Night at the Opera" album (particularly "And Then There Was Silence") - it's more common with European Prog-Metal, but Devin Townsend and Symphony X stand out among Western Hemisphere contributors.

      Phallus Dei I wouldn't say so. It's just not you cup of tea maybe. I don't always feel like listening to his band either. Sometimes I just get in the mood for something that I can just put on and let my mind drift. Devin can usually make that happen for me

    • @psychoskind8228
      @psychoskind8228 6 лет назад +10

      Phallus Dei I wouldn't say it's flat and boring. Townsend is writing very complex harmonies an he is a musical genius. I need to give him credits for his talent. But on the other hand I can absolutely understand you. I like a few songs of him, but there is a lot of stuff I don't appreciate. The problem you have is the one I have with Dream Theatre. In my opinion they are caring too much about the technical aspects and so loosing any feeling for emotions in their music.

    Did anyone interpret this video as I did? My wife recently told me she no longer loves me (yeah I know, sob story). The lyrics are very suggestive of losing someone. He talks about memories and using time to navigate those memories, lying to yourself, and offering yourself; your love. The video shows a boy and girl fighting desperately to find beauty, to find life. They're in a dead world but together they attempt to better they're environment. By doing so, their world crumbles. Everything they've known, everything around them is destroyed. They hold tight to eachother as the storm worsens and just as it seems they can take no more or that they may die, the storm breaks and life blossoms around them. Beauty and meaning now cover their once desolate world and lives. Best part of the video is when they hug eachother at the end with those big smiles on their faces. They made it. All of that struggle and fear was well, well worth it. I see this video as a message of hope- don't give up. Battle the storms and eventually, no matter how hard it becomes, it will pay off. This song and video are perfect together regardless of how you interpret them.

    If Hollywood is ever going to do a series of proper ''Dune'' movies ,Devin would be perfect to compose the soundtrack for it.I mean seriously,this here is epic,beyond human recognition.

      The one true Dune movie that should have been made was torn apart by Hollywood. So fuck Hollywood's version even if they do one that isn't complete shit. They destroyed a sci-fi movie that would have outshone Star Wars before its time. Jodorowski's Dune. Watch the documentary on that one, and you will completely understand.

      Soultrip89 Oh,I've seen the documentary about this lunatic's failed movie.Trust me,the ''Dune''-fans would have hunted him down,with pitchforks and torches and propably,made him eat the book,page by page.We should thank Hollywood,for shutting him down.

      Fuck that noise, Hollywood ruined a great artistic expression. It wouldn't have been the same Dune, but at least it wouldn't be the garbage one Hollywood shat after they ruined his idea piece by piece.

    "1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations."

    he had alot of problems with depression and anxiety. This song is about overcoming and not letting it define who you are. The first time i saw this video i couldnt help but cry a little because i too suffer from it. It made me realise that i conatantly let it beat me time after time. This song finally made me say i have a problem and i need help. So i went to therapy and got a psychiatrist and found out my ADHD had gotten worse, and my low energy and motivation was causing these problems. Since then i have been on Adderall and with work and persistence im starting to crawl out of the cave i dug and feel like im seeing the sun for the first time in years. It all started with this song. Thank you Devin for telling me exactly what i needed to hear.

    Dude, I was today years old when I realized that "I remember the rainy days in Chinatown" is a reference to Deep Peace from Terria. On the Metal Archives, the lyrics list "(inside the picture of the huge sterile black and white diner on a rainy Sunday afternoon in Chinatown)" for the place where the solo occurs. It's possible Sunday Afternoon off of Accelerated Evolution may even be referencing that: "... on a rainy Sunday afternoon."
    All three songs have a very similar vibe. Evidently, they're all referring to the same event Devin is talking about here. I absolutely LOVE when artists refer back to their older material like that.
