So I've always heard of Devin Townsend and the Ziltoid albums,but I never checked him out. I saw DTP live a few days ago and I had to immediately rectify that mistake,I can't believe I didn't listen to his material earlier.

This man is a f***ing genius! I love all his songs and everyone of them hits me in the feels! I politely disagree, lyric videos are cool.
You gotta understand this album has a lot of emphasis on the story line, and sometimes the vocals are not that easy to follow.
This is video was produced having a lyric video in mind, hence all the loop animations that would make a rather boring video if it wasn't for the lyrics.
Lyric videos are good for promotion, and cheaper than typical music videos.

I've never even heard of Devin Townsend, and only clicked on the video, because I wanted to see what the hell those floating Krang-looking things were. If the rest of his lyrics are as bad as the ones in this song, this will most likely be the *only* song of his I'll ever listen to.

I hope I'm not the only one who absolutely loved both sides of Z2. It's an amazing work from Devy, and one of my top picks of the year.
I thought I was the only one too. :3 Sky Blue felt like a brilliant amalgam of, dare I say, his entire discography in a way with some new twists. Not to mention considering the album's theme is centered around loss, it definitely hits home numerous times. For me at least. As for Dark Matters, HOLY SHITBALLS. Over-the-top hilarious, musically epic, and all around a barrel full of monkeys. ^^

I loved the whole damn thing. Just about everything Devy's done in the last 20 years has been great.
I hate Sky Blue. It's the worst thing Devin has ever written hands down. It's hard for me to believe that the same guy who wrote Terria and Ocean Machine also wrote Sky Blue. Z2 was pretty bland as well. These two albums made me stop looking forward to his releases.

All Devin Townsend stuff is basically just fluff after Ocean Machine, Terraria... And his metal band "Strapping Young Lad" has some of the best material too.
He became totally pop-obsessed at some point, it's kind of sad, cringey and cheesy, no matter how catchy it is sometimes. Regardless, his core material was a while ago.

So I was up at 3 am one day with some friends and I found this song. It was just on my recommended page and it was alone with no videos beside it. I watched it and then it turned off and I couldn’t find the song for months. It haunted me. The song was stuck in my head but I couldn’t find it anywhere. I heard someone singing it and I was questioning everyone around but they all said no one was singing it. And then one day I actually found it after something bad happened. Okay. I have this theory. It's a scientific one, so you better listen up.
Poozers are real world posers. They are idiot whiner (wiener?) ballsacks, who go back to their mama like real world posers, pointing at their "flawless super guru kami god", their idol, when they are criticized. So Poozers are everyday follow-the-flock music listeners, and the Queen Blattaria is the idol, the vain, cruel and hungry for acceptance, stardom and record sales.
In contrast Ziltoid is the true nerdy, undiluted creativity, much different from what we people in general believe artists to be like (that they are narcissist Blattarias.) Casual people are in the story kinda normal, kinda clueless, like we all listeners really are.
Devin is trying to tell, that real creativity is much less pompuous and vain than we think it to be, and how posers/Poozers think it is. Real creativity is nerdy, obsessed in weird things (Coffee as the ultimate end?!?!) and looks totally alien to the general mass of people. Some people then have "false idols", people who appear to be creative, but are creative just for their own vain and greedy gain.
Oh god, this is like a high school literature analysis, I've sunken.

I always thought ZTO was about DT's music career before he had his kid...lots of hedonism, selfishness, and vanity, getting smashed when suddenly he was a dad. Between the responsibilities and joys of being a dad and all that, he realized he wasn't that different from a normal guy. Everything before N9 was his career at the height of his rockstar persona, N9 was him finding out he was a dad, Omnidimensional Creator through The Greys is him trying to reconcile his persona with himself, and Tall Latte is when he finally accepted that it was all silliness.
If you go with that, then then Z2 Ziltoid doesn't totally fit in with that. I don't think DT thinks he's God's gift to music, I think he thinks he's just a guy trying to make what he wants. If he was a little self-loathing about it, maybe he still self-identifies with Ziltoid a bit, and that's why Ziltoid still acts like he does. Maybe he's just recognizing that your 'true artist' isn't perfect either.
But really, I think a lot of this stuff, especially the end, is intentionally schlocky B-movie nonsense. Intentionally avoiding being too highfalutin', so he doesn't slip into bad habits. That or he pulled a Mike Portnoy and thought up a cool idea and dug himself into a real big hole with a huge project, and sorta had to fudge it to get through in the end.
