@@ulfingvar1 "I can see across the world its starting.... the seeds of love!... But there are monsters...." Devin had a concept for this album of animals and monsters playing with each other, dark and light intermingling. There is no "enemy" we're facing, we're all human. If anything the "enemy" to be faced is the seeds of evil within every individual, not some group of people.
theyre not really giant... maybe slightly bigger than normal, but look at 2:42, theyre only about twice as tall as he is, which isnt so big depending how tall he is.
Kinda goes for the message of the song, elephants are known for their memory and it's about remembering and understanding our place in the universe and how everything is connected. "Remember when we were young" and showing the gorilla just drives the point home (we're all in this together and we should remember we come from the same source and work together).
Jesus Christ... i am crying like a baby in the middle of the afternoon.... I read your comments too, and i am so glad that in this world finally exists so many kind people with real emotions.. we must be united people...we must love each other... i wish i could meet all of you!!

At the time of watching this video where everyone is going crazy and so many people are downhearted, this song is so incredibly relevant. Thanks for the music, Dev. \m/
The volume of work Dev has given us and I'm yet to say, "Oh that song sounds like ......" Every song is unique, and it's not like he's just pumping out commercial, generic 3 minute songs, his music is epic., every album is a musical masterpiece. I love introducing people to his music, and to watch their faces as they try to take it all in. Devy should be listed as the 8th wonder of the world.

The most beautiful fact about this song is how it's written to make the listener the center of harmony. It's all unison for the first minute-and-a-half of song, giving the listener plenty of time to learn and sing along. And then, right about 1:31, the main melody disappears, the vocals split into a harmony that leaves YOU in harmony with everyone else. Literally. This is one of the most meaningful musical metaphors I've ever experienced.
Looking through the comments, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one reduced to a blubbering mass of tears by this track because damn... This song doesn't just kick me in the feels, it fucking SHATTERS them. In the best way possible.
@@thattypicalslimy8548 But I see YOU'RE definitely not. See what I did there? Because you used the wrong "your/you're" in YOUR last comment. See, I did it again. This song at bloodstock was probably singularly the most purest most beautiful experience of my life, after the past near two years of not seeing friends and family, being in a field of people singing out hearts out to songs and drinking beer was something special. Thank you Devin for putting your life on hold for two weeks to play two shows for us you'll never know how much we appreciate this.
Devin has saved my life for longer than I can remember. I'm 32 this year. 5 suicide attempts. PTSD, BPD, a seizure disorder, a wonky spine and hips, severe depression and anxiety. Domestic abuse survivor and 2 children, the oldest named after the man himself for all the respect I have and healing he's enabled. I turned my life around thanks to this man. I have the lyrics remember in the end that death is not the end tattooed on my arm. I love you Devin, see you at bloodstock 🖤
@@nolanblodgett4466 only thing that's changed is I'm 2 years older. I've had blips and dips along the way since I first commented this. Thank you for your comment 🖤
Saw the dialled back live version of this a couple of days ago. Devin dedicated it to anyone who's lost a loved one to depression and suicide, and to those who are currently suffering. Bawled my eyes out, especially at "remember you are loved". I've never before witnessed an entire audience of metal fans tearing up. It was profound, and inspired me to ask for help. If you're reading this and you're struggling, speak to someone, please. The world isn't perfect, but it's better to experience the highs and lows than to never feel them again.
I've never realized, before this moment, just how much I've always wanted a gorilla bassist. Once again, Mr. Townsend has opened my eyes. Bless this man for all the incredible music.
I would love to hear a different mix of this song that would have all the vocals mixed way up. Or version where band would have a short pause in chorus and vocals would still continue. Those vocals are awesome.
If you are interested in great metal vocalists, you should check out Leprous. Their lead singer Einar Solberg is classically trained and boy does it show. His last two albums, Pitfalls and Aphelion are much more approachable to people who are not into heavy growling like me. Check his solo album 16. He experimented with several styles of music. Also check out his live acoustic songs.

Usually, I can pick up on most of what Devin is trying to say with his videos and songs but this album is kinda mysterious in that regard. That being said, I assume the guy at the start is supposed to be young Devin daydreaming all of that stuff about his future. As for the lyrics and the actual theme, I'm not 100% sure on it.
@@jakobfel2 Devin's statement regarding this song, "'Spirits Will Collide' as a song is pretty standard fare for me if you've followed what I’ve done over the past few years. It’s ultimately an 'anti-suicide' statement and it’s meant to be melodic and straightforward. A video with CGI Gorillas playing bass and Elephants playing drums in front of a billion people is so ridiculously dumb that I’m surprised it makes me feel as happy as it does, but the theme of the song is essentially about trying to convince kids or teens to 'hang on' when they feel depression or suicidal thoughts. The story of the video is that a kid that has a fantasy about playing at a massive concert with thousands of people as a choir, animals etc...just the biggest concert he can imagine, and the strength of the sound and the intention of a bunch of people singing together is such that the sound blows away the darkness."
Had the incredible pleasure of hanging out, getting to know and singing with Devin almost 30 years ago when we were recording all the background vocals for Sex & Religion. Devin has always had THE MOST POWERFUL voice I can think of. We would joke that he could "gargle glass" and still sing anything he wanted. Of course, back then we were both still in our 20's. Devin may have actually been 19? :). Devin, you were incredible then and you are incredible now. This arrangement, groove, melody, writing, passion and performance is nothing short of amazing. I am not surprised. Hope to see you again someday.
"Sex and Religion" was and kind of still is one of the most futuristic rock albums of all time. Steve Vai gathered a real SuperGroup for that album. Mann, you were lucky to be on the recording end of that.. must have been incredible! Wow!
Oh god, I have never cried to a song, and I will admit that when he says "Don't forget that you are loved" hit me like a truck and I started crying...This song is so goddamn beautiful. 10/10 Devin
I've cried to many songs, and this is one of them. Barely even listened to Devin. Only started actually listening to strapping young lad a couple weeks ago and I'm only now looking into his other music projects. Wonderful stuff.
Devin, my son is in the ICU for a horrible asthma episode, critical condition, we are still here as of this writing, and this song kept playing in my head and keeping me sane, and it's now the anthem to his recovery. After 2 days, He pulled through. He's up and eating. Weak, but alive and being a happy loving kid. This song helped us so much like it was a sign from God. Thank you for being you. And I just discovered you last week. He also wants to play guitar just like you when he gets home. Love always, Mama Roxi
“So they rise: The fear and pain, but this isn't how I am Don't you forget that you are loved! Don't you forget that you are them, It's hard enough” Damn, this hit me hard. I needed to hear this right now and Devin delivered.
No joke, "Don't you forget that you are them" is one of the most powerful lyrics in history. Seriously incredible lyricism on this album....Devin is on a different plane of existence than the rest of us, he just gets it, and is helping to make the rest of us better people.
@@danjones5047 Be careful. Words like this and promise of a better future can actually make the issue worse. It's better to train coping mechanisms for the "now" -- talking about the future is a bad thing a lot of the time because it simply means there will be more of everything. Telling truly depressed or suicidal people "it will get better" isn't helpful because that means they have to continue another day (or more) before it will get better and facing the reality that they need to face another day can easily push them over the edge. My point being that the "shit life" now doesn't make anything in the future worth it and depressed/cynical/nihilistic/etc people don't believe those promises either because the person saying them have no idea what the future holds.

How amazing that he wants to deliver an encouraging and positive message to keep on fighting in such an epic way. I love it! I seriously need to find a way to get my hands on a copy of this album. It seems absolutely worth it.
It's worth every penny. I finally got the 2 CD set a few days ago despite ordering it on Amazon the day it came out (I also bought the mp3 version from Google Play).
I think it made my depression worse. Started making me miss all my family members that have passed away and all the friendships that drifted away over the years due to people moving away or marriage.
This stuff is far too complex for the average dingus you pass in the street. I love the fact that i get it and 98% of the world doesn't. @@michaelrigney9682 So much yes. Just, yes all day. What amazes me about this man is that he has absolute ZERO limitations. None. He cut his teeth playing the old school rock/metal with Steve Vai. Then he goes and creates one of the most iconic and original heavy metal bands with Strapping. Then he decides to further amaze and change the world of music by going solo/DTP and completely getting rid of the confines of a single genre, despite being pegged as Prog Metal. Think about it. He's done the heavy as shit with SYL. He did the epic Prog stuff with DTP and solo. He did the mellow and beautiful with Casualties of Cool. He went intergalactic with Ziltoid. He has albums that span everything from the most beautiful harmonic ballads this world will ever know, to the heaviest most evil sounding metal in the universe, and literally everything in between. And all of this from a man who believes that he's a mediocre musician at best. He's inspired me beyond belief and his music has lifted me out of some of the darkest places I've ever been in. I'm thankful that this man exists and is able to do what he does. Why I'm really pulling for this album to succeed beyond anything else he's done. In the same boat as you Grah. Most of the people I know that listen to metal or musically genres that align with Devin's style have never even heard of him, or even SYL. I see all these people and I can't help but smile and know that his music is doing good for so many others around the world.
lucky you I ve been a fan for over a decade (started w/SYL ) and not a chance to seem him live yet

I'm pretty sure this man is capable of finally bringing peace to this world.
Devin Townsend with Wyld Stallyns = Peace in the universe.
Unfortunately not..not with the new kind of enemies we're facing today.
@@ulfingvar1 "I can see across the world its starting.... the seeds of love!... But there are monsters...."
Devin had a concept for this album of animals and monsters playing with each other, dark and light intermingling. There is no "enemy" we're facing, we're all human. If anything the "enemy" to be faced is the seeds of evil within every individual, not some group of people.
He's definitely bringing Kabbalah to the public via music.
a question...: HOW??
"giant elephants playing drums" was that the dream of Mr. Townsend about the live dvd?
theyre not really giant... maybe slightly bigger than normal, but look at 2:42, theyre only about twice as tall as he is, which isnt so big depending how tall he is.

The volume of work Dev has given us and I'm yet to say, "Oh that song sounds like ......"
Every song is unique, and it's not like he's just pumping out commercial, generic 3 minute songs, his music is epic., every album is a musical masterpiece. I love introducing people to his music, and to watch their faces as they try to take it all in. Devy should be listed as the 8th wonder of the world.
It’s funny you say this because there’s a few people in the comments section that think it sounds a bit like Enya’s Only Time.

I can't stand whoever this guy is in the video and the music sucks too
The most beautiful fact about this song is how it's written to make the listener the center of harmony.

I came from the "Kingdom" video, and as a vocalist, this man has entered my top 5 in record time. Those pipes are serious, dude.
Lyrics:
So they say, you'll be ok
But words are not enough
Nobody remembered me
The words were not enough
Calm yourself down
Don't you remember when we were young?
Don't you remember who I am?
You're strong enough!
Dues to pay towards the way
Towards my friend, towards
Two must play the foolish game
To war my friend to war!
So they rise: The fear and pain, but this isn't how I am
Don't you forget that you are loved!
Don't you forget that you are them,
It's hard enough
Remember the flame in your heart burns strong
Remember and the spirit will collide
Remember! Together!
Remember in the end that death is not the end
So we rise!
Receive the pain, but this isn't where this ends
Don't you forget that you are perfect
Don't you forget just who we are
We're strong enough!
Wherever the flame in your heart burns strong,
We may not be brave so lets start
Remember and the spirits will collide!
Remember! Together!

Remember! Together!

I think people that don't understand depression also don't understand how simple and straightforward lyrics like these can mean all the difference.

Agreed. Luckily we have over 2 hours of epic greatness between the main and bonus discs. I don't think there's even one wasted second in those 2 hours.
I've listened to this song at least 200 times, the first 60 were within the first 24 hours after I heard it. Problem solved
I was an extra too, you can see me at 0:38.
What was it like on Devin's concert asteroid?
Good job
I love the fact that this video allowed me to have this conversation with my 9 year old daughter:
Dad, why are their elephants playing the drums?
Because the Gorilla got the bass, Devin got the guitar and that was all that was left
Oh, that makes sense.
As only Devin Townsend could
Feeling this big time down here in lil ol New Zealand...we need all the uplifting we can get..arfta ow recent events un Christchurch....😪 love ya strapping young ladd Townsend
I think a that rock concert in space, with elephants and gorillas playing instruments, and a Moon made of speakers, and millions of viewers could have been the perfect ending scene of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Now they have to think of something else.
I think this was the song Bill & Ted were meant to write...
Awesome 😂🤘🏻
This is my absolute favorite song by Devin Townsend. It's very positive, very motivation and very inspiring. Bless him and his extravagant talents that he puts into his work.
this is deep .. i love that somehow i got here even though i can't stop crying. thanks for this masterpiece.
My stepdad used to listen to devin and when he died this song made me feel like he was with me again
A Friday night in Tokyo starts with this! This is how beautiful life can be.
I count myself very lucky that Im living at the same time as this brilliant fucking man. He never ceases to amaze with his music.
If this sounded any bigger, I would have to go outside to listen to it.
Amazing piece of work.
harambe is totally killing it.
Harambass
How this man managed to become one of my biggest influences so fast will always amaze me...
Because he is literally THE MOST talented musician alive today. And I would defend that statement and put him up against anyone living today and proudly bank all my money on Devin. Not that I have much. 🤣
I went from knowing nothing about Devin/SYL to within 3/4 of a year him being one of my main influences if not THE main influence. Devin just does that, man.
Because I read an article about how he's dumped $170K of his OWN MONEY into recording and releasing this album. And he flat out said, if this album bombs and doesn't do well. He'll have to stop making music. And that would destroy my soul.
This is the song this world needs right now. Thank you Devin. Thank you.
Cersei Lannister: I wanted those elephants...I was told there would be elephants
