In my latest workshop project video, I needed to make a latch for the chicken coop. I took this opportunity to practice some blacksmithing techniques that I have been watching on RUclips. I combined several different techniques and methods for this blacksmithing project. I am not considering this a pure blacksmith latch, I just needed a lock for the chicken coop, so I made one. Thank you to all the blacksmith that share their skill on RUclips!

I loved seeing how the metal moved to make that U shaped part. I always appreciate how you show different ways to solve problems. The sound of the latch is so satisfying.
This must be the most overkill chicken coop latch ever made
I was thinking that. Let's hope the fox hasn't got a screwdriver!
Overbuilt on purpose like ZT knives hahaha
Love it 👍 nice work 😁
It is not just a latch... an excuse... to have fun and make art.
@@willford8475 maybe he Maybe he tag will fit them
My brother You better not get tired of hearing this , because I'm not going to stop saying it... I was Educated / Entertained watching this video .
Stay well Taylor, Willie and all the 2 and 4 footed members of the farm and of course you my brother .
Love and respect ✊🏻
This is advanced Play-Doh with hammers. Well done.
Xoxoxox
Haha!!! - Most excellent job!!!
Play-Doh for REAL men (and women)! Excellent job (really liked how you made a die for the press for the brackets).
@@dwwoodbuilds thank you 🙏🏼
Your turn to start forging cool stuff too.
A lot of work for a door latch, but it amazes me how you can see something in your head, and bring it to life! I love the old techniques that you use. Beautiful work!
No wonder why blacksmiths were thought of as magicians in ancient times. Now we look at it and there's a science behind it, but it still seems magical. Love your videos they suck you in with the sounds of progress and work, what you make is practical art and it's truly an inspiration. Thank you.

Fab antidote & cheer up to Covid: Making something beautiful & functional & seeing all the birds living free range with such healthy feathers & sparkling eyes. Thanks for sharing!
Completely necessary and not over engineered at all.... I like it.
I LOVE stuff with super simple function yet way over designed. This might be coolest latch ever thought up by a human brain.
this is the best coop latch in the world
We can all agree that you've got some amazing and valuable tools. However, the MOST valuable tool is the one between your ears. Nicely done, as always!!
Everyone else is going in the automated chicken coop latch direction and Jimmy is going full 18th century. Love it.
I bet not many 18th century blacksmiths wore Rolex. JD has skills and class!
When you absolutely, positively need to have the most over the top over enginered lock for you coup, DiResta is your go to guy. Cool latch!
U r a great designer and a very hard working guy.... oly this work proves your efficiency 🤩🤩
Good Sunday morning treat 👍
Ahhhh the geometry of mechanism is so satisfying! Jimmy has the gift of making hard stuff look easy.
And easy stuff look hard.
That should keep them safe from dogs, foxes, and the occasional velociraptor.
Velociraptors are the worst.
@@saginawdan T-REX, get's no respect. I'm telling ya, what's this world coming to.
even if it's a clever girl.
@@MonsieurNab Velociraptor comes over with a screwdriver. -Jimmy: "Clever girl.."
The doorlocks! Get the doorlocks!
Normal people: I bought this really sturdy latch for my chicken coop!
JD: Hold my cutting emulsion...
Excellent. I enjoyed everything about this video very much. This is the Diresta that brought me here years ago.
Classic diresta video. Super smart design.
Cool latch and a beautiful bend! :)
Thank you brother 🙏🏼✊🏻
Jimmy,
Thats a nice compliment from the best blacksmith on youtube!
this is the diresta I miss. Not the cnc/ printed builds. Just raw design and skill.

@@pistolpanda4582 thank you 🙏🏼
6:53 A wonderful snipped of cinematography. Bravo!
You have some pretty chickens... so diverse in color and plumage... very cool
That's the kind of latch I would expect on a bear cage, maybe for a tiger.
No those are ninja chickens
how about a pack of raptors
Let's talk about this Jimmy : looks same as my wife's chastity belt . Jimmy do you know my wife ? 🔪
JAJAJAJA TAL CUAL , SEMEJANTE PESTILLO SOLO PARA UNOS POLLOS JAJAJAJAJAJA
@Jibrhan Jamal Khan I think it's time we sit down and talk about your alcohol addiction sir
Well done, the egg production can only benefit by the security engendered and the appreciation for such a well constructed latch
I have no chickens, nor a coop and yet I'm now inspired to make a latch. Great work Jimmy!
Absolutely love the creative ways you approach your projects. That's a serious and awesome latching system!
Blacksmithing opens up so many more cool projects to make. I love it.
Every Diresta project is having an unique art. We're watching with enjoyment.
Beautiful chickens. The slide bolt lock has the most interesting and unique operating mechanism and it’s as pretty to look at as the birds.
That is the most beautifully over the top latch I've ever seen.
I really am concerned about the foxes you've got in your area, Jimmy..
As always, great video and wonderful content. Its always a treat to see you freestyle a solution to a problem; no intricate measurements, just going straight from conception to production. Thats the sign of gift and skill.
I can't believe 545 people didn't like this film. Madness..! Probably guys who think they're blacksmiths and could do a better job. No one could..!
Hola señor..desde Argentina lo admiro por todo lo que hace muchas gracias.
Simple project that goes beyond, Heavy metal neatly done.. Approved..
Wow! Totally bad ass! I love the design. So creative.
That Video transition at 13:36 is so on point! Really great Jimmy! :)
The latch was built over complicated and I love it👍
Always a joy watching you engineer. Very cool latch system!! Home Run Jimmy
Simple, creative, beautiful ❤️ and useful
Nice work and nice quality Pferd File set. I have the same here. And i bought aditional the special File from Pferd for soft Metals (really woth the money!). No more aluminum stucking to the file teeth.
That’s the hottest piece of over design I’ve ever seen. Real nice Jimmy.
Jimmy - I appreciate your abstract vision. 👍
It's always so satisfying when you have everything you need to make it yourself. Thanks for sharing!
You are really good at this kinda mechanical things too!
I just want this!
Even the chickens get awesome stuff in Jimmy's world. Well done sir
That is one hellava latch! Not going to fall apart any time soon!
Congrats to mister Jimmy, nice latch, and to those darn chicken; good luck trying to break loose now, damn you!
Jimmy makes the best videos
Next a new all metal chicken coop to match. Beautiful craftmanship as always!
Looks like you are glad to be home with your workshops!
Very beautiful work and very nice idea. And also very pretty collection.
Hey Jimmy Diresta, it's been a while. But, your work outstanding. This lock is crazy fantastic. You should've shared our design of the lock. I think that would've been kool to do everytime. The lock had some great 45°. On it. But, you did it.
Thank you. Your great.
Very nice work! Those chickens do look pretty buff!
The poultry saver great stuff Mr
Must love those chickens alot. Lol
Great looking latch. Love it
That turkey is looking mighty tasty 😃
First thought: Being one of JDs chickens would be SO damn cool ._.
To....see him work on stuff of course.
Yeah, real cool, until it's dinner time, and he's having you over for dinner... as in YOU'RE the dinner...lol
So cool? Oh, no i think it's so hot! Lmao
And they'd all be tattoo'd with his name on 'em...
@@batterymakermarkii2654 Of course.
I like watching the metal move.
So cool!
That things cool, most skookumest thing on the coop.
How so many projects get started, the good old scrap bucket! I envy you guys with your huge work shops in my townhouse, now retired after a long career of all things manufacturing/machining, started as a tool and die apprentice finished as an Instrumentmaker.
Respect for the master, wonderful workshop !!!
You made an astonishing progress with your blacksmith skills.
Jimmy Derista is always brilliant, creative, and wows you with his work. Really, you are so cool 😍🙈
What a good day, Habu upload video about brass pen and now I am watching a new video from Jimmy 😁
These are amazing man. The thing I find most incredible about your creations is the economics of it. I think your most incredible achievement has been making money as a builder. You did it before youtube and before your show and I'm most interested in those time frames where you didn't have a show but were able to pay for life and accumulate tools. I'd love to see a "how to" on the economics of being a maker in the real world.
Fenomenal es una obra de arte amigo felicitaciones Dios bendiga sus manos saludos desde Cali Colombia
This is excellent! Cool latch and nice to see the process and problem solving. Classic Diresta.
Absolutely beautiful. And unnecessary complex. As always.👍
That latch is for when times get rough, and they're going to get rough. You could drill a hole on the part that raises on the right hand side and the part that slides and hang a lock in there, so the day sleepers couldn't steal your chickens for sustenance or trade. Just my thoughts from the guy in Tucson
Such beautiful chicken!
That's the nicest chicken door latch I've ever seen, I hope they appreciate it. (giggle)
I've never seen a latch like that before, but I Iike it because it's made by American hands, and it's well built. Good work, Jimmy Diresta! 🇺🇲
I'm probably too easily impressed, but watching the heat get sucked in the vise at 1:16 is really cool. No pun intended!
That is certainly very cool and innovative!
Awesome, very unique Jimmy
Как всегда: надежно, красиво, необычно и брутально!💪 Diresta🤝
Fantastic lock
Большое спасибо, всё как всегда на высшем уровне!
I love the rooster telling you to hurry up, he's a great foreman.
Fantastic look and concept! the last image looks digital!Perfection!,Cheers from Toronto Canada!
Hello jimmothy thank you for sharing this project. I like it
Coop with a mini medieval drawbridge...that would be the bum dig! Beautiful latch!
Jimmy, that's awesome idea.
Roosters so pretty cool!
My 5 yers old son love your roosters, he said: dad, say Jimmy, that he would never kill them. They must always live!
those are some dangerous chickens.. a good way to keep them in =D very nice looking after all.. I liked it..
Jimmy and Nick Offerman need to collaborate already
They haven’t? I thought they had... couldn’t be two better guys.
Nick doesn't have what to offer to Diresta, different league
Jimmy and Nick Offerman built a canoe together and that canoe was used in Parks and Rec.
They have, on a show called "Making It", also has Amy Poehler.
Great idea, as always! I copied your idea for Mobile Anvil Stand. I will be glad to see your assessment.
It's amazing how you make the simplest things so beautiful.
Created in harmony with nature🤝
Nice cut at the end from the bench to the door. 👏👏👏
Awesomely overbuilt
Jimmy, that is the coolest bit of Ferrier work I've seen in some time. And, great design. Thoroughly love watching you work. So sorry you weren't able to hold a get together when you were in So Cal. Would have loved to have shared a beer and bumped fists. I'm sure our illustrious Governor, Gruesome Neusome, had some thing to do with his "No Gatherings" rulings. Oh well, maybe next year. Here's to a renewal on your show and a great holiday. Again, great work. You are truly a Renaissance Man for our time.
thank you !!
Looks awesome. Great work.
Love seeing these mechanisms you make. Great problem solving
You have mad skills!
The forged product looks great against the background of old wood!
Totally fascinated me. Wish I had the room for a black smith shop.
Your crazy jimmy that is awesome
