Blacksmithing - Making a Forged Steel Dish
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 май 2024
- Follow along as I make a forged dish out of 100x10mm steel bar stock. This is more of an art piece than a functional object, a project that popped into my brain one day. A fun process that shows how the forging can create the design elements by itself.

Wonderful work. The texture came out great
Thank you John! I would say the texture on the back side could work equally good! Like something taken from an old boiler or something.
Eres un artista!! Buen proyecto!!
Eres un gran artista, ese plato quedó espectacular, único en su tipo.
@@torbjornahman It's like Benney Bark. But for Vikings.
Always a delight to see a new video from you, always learn something new. Nice to see RUclips smiths making art, not just sharp, pointy things.
Thank you very much!
Absolutely riveting!
Yes, riveting is riveting! Very satisfying process :)
what a beautiful and elegant design. I also love the final contrast between the fragile glass and the strong and supportive steel. There's a life metaphor in it somewhere, I'm sure.
Thank you for sharing your work with us master Åhman
Thank you!
By the shaking of hands you needed to do, this is clearly a dish 'best served cold'!! Lovely video as always! Thank you for sharing your work, and inspiring.
:) Indeed! Radiant heat from larger pieces is nothing to joke about...
It made me realize that the dish is probably oven-safe... Pity it probably can't hold water. And it MIGHT not be microwave-safe either.
i really enjoy those edits where you break pieces off. they are very well done
:) Thanks
@torbjornahman they are extremely well done. I like seeing them too
I love the punched holes stretching the edges !
Gorgeous piece of work, thanks for showing it
An artist at work. Not just the blacksmith work, but the video. Narrative, cutting, photo, sound. And music! Music in a TÅ video!? Who would have thought 😂
Thank you!
“DANGER, Engage brain before using this machine.” 😁
That label should be on all American voting machines...
I agree with the sentiment, but, in a larger sense, such a warning shouldn't be necessary.
Error 404: Brain not found.
Yeah, means I'll have to visit the AvE shop again, because I don't recall having that sticker in my collection yet.
@@user-dn4iv2ne6r It’s a joke, not an actual warning.
Watching these videos is like watching an episode of Columbo. You know in advance how it will end up but you don't know how he will get there. What a beautiful peice!
Does no one else see... He is slowly moving towards end of the world armour pieces. 😅 Great work! My kids and I enjoy watching your videos together. They see me work on cars with modern tools a lot of the time and they are amazed what you can do with a piece of metal, some fire and a hammer. You are keeping an important part of history alive! 💪
😊 thank you
Another project the totally pegs the "awesome" meter. Anyone would be honored to have that on display. Love the use of the glass balls at the end.
So that's where the SALTY SPITOON gets their cutlery from!! Only the toughest of the tough dishes can get in!
As always a true peace of art, I always look forward to watching you work! Thank you for sharing with us!
0:22 Ah! It's nice to see that you've learned This Old Tony's secret steel cutting hand technique! :D
Reminds me of the park bench you did a few years back. Watched that quite a few times . Looks brilliant. Keep em coming please. 👍 👍👌
Your technique for making the “tree bark” surface is clever.
wow.. a great design, and just enough humor.. love your work sir
:) Thanks
Fascinating.
I, for one, am glad you showed the full process for most of the fasteners.
Because, unlike watching you drill the holes (which was boring), this was riveting!
😉😁
Seeing the slugs drop out of the holes when punched puts a huge smile on my face. I'm not sure why, but it's one of my favorite things.
You constantly amaze me with what I think of as such a “crude” and rough process can produce, in the hands of an artist, such beautiful things.
That ending !!! Great!
Brother Torbjörn! Now that was just pure fun! I am going to copy. Again. Any day one gets to use top and bottom tools under the hammer is a great day. What an all around excellent project! Cheers to you and yours!
Thanks again! My pleasure, copy as you like, make a dome if you like :)
It looks fantastic. Like it was made of pieces of an old ship or something. I liked the combo of machine and hammer, and the gas and coal.
Fantastic work, as always!!
I'm picturing something like that, but round, 3'-4' in diameter as a fire bowl in the yard!
Yea, that would look cool too!
Engage brain before using! I like that message. You won't get it back. Nice tray. Thanks for posting
You are by far one of my most favorite blacksmiths that has blessed us with video content. Great work, straight to the point, no annoying overlaying music or chit chat. Thank you good sir!!
Sweet, thank you!
You need to make a video of all the beautiful things you’ve made for the house for gifts like an art display video. Be very interesting to see. I really enjoy your work.
great editing, really nice touch showing the effect of the fullering, I dont think people appreciate just how much of a difference drawing out cross peining or fullering makes to what you have in front of you or just how hot it is even with gloves on.
I like your attention to detail
Fantastic design, love the industrial shipwright vibe and those rivets are super precise considering they were hand hammered
Much appreciated! Thank you!!
AWESOME demonstration of the Leidenfrost effect at 4:15 !!
Good capture!!
I felt my upper body shake just looking at that die-grinder insertion 😂
:)
The sort of platter that Dr. Doom would serve his canapes on at his parties.
Every time I see your videos, they just get better and better. I really like the shirt you always wear. I need to get ahold of one.
Thank you!!
This might look really nice with a burnt beeswax finish and brass rivets!
Have you, or a family member started working glass, too? Beautiful metal and beautiful glass are synergistic. Thank you for sharing your skill and creativity.
Thanks, no, but I would love to try some more.
I really enjoyed this video and the craftsmanship/ artistry involved in the creative pathway to thos remarkable piece!
Thank you!!
Wow! What a beautiful piece. The riveting reminds me of the Titanic era.
*- Gorgeous art, Torbjörn ! ! !*
*- And sturdy too.*
Torbjörn, you are doing an impressive job!
Thanks
When seeing you beating those red hot bolts or what they're called into the dish to lock the pieces together, it reminds me of the making of the mask in the movie The Man in The Iron Mask. 😂
Rivets are pretty cool!
Thats a mighty fine piece of craftsmanship
Wow…the pattern is unbelievably cool! Wow
Wow, what a beast of a bowl....the FrankenBowl!
Great timing. Was just binging a bunch of your videos. Awesome content. Thank you!
Cool, glad you like them!
Magnificent rendering! Masterful blacksmithing!
I am just stunned. So organic and playful yet so brutish in its proportion. I love it beyond. Truly beautiful.
Your beautiful creations tend to "fire me up" to make something 😛
Wow Torbjörn, you're very strong to be able to pull apart metal like that.
Beautiful piece! Just don’t make your wife mad. You don’t want to be on the receiving end of that flying dish!
That’s an extraordinarily beautiful piece.
What a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, amazing result .. FANTASTIC 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻😳
Stunning work as always! The radius of the rivet heads matching up with the edge of the plates was very nice
You are a true master at your craft! Beautiful work, as always!
Stunning work! Your creativity is beyond limits
The only dish on the planet that will survive the apocalypse. But it's beautiful!
Good job Thunder Bear. I always look forward to your updates.
I think this is my favourite video yet. Keep up the great work, Thunder Bear!
Wow, thanks!
Removed some rivets from a 1945 Ford 1/2 ton truck frame rivets are forever.
Thanks for again showing how it's done.
What's not to love about this. Hot rivets and treebark texture. It's a masterpiece.
A real work of art!
A beautiful, sculptural artwork for the home - That the kids cannot break! Awesome!
Beautiful work, as always :)
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing. From design through to the finished product.
This is Art. The work, the video, and even the sound by the end. I love your work.
Makes me imagine the next one being many more segments. An eight or more pizza slices in a dish. Would make it look like one of those steamers with the fan. Could give the triangle putter edge a point to one side or something fun.
Steel plates and rivets remembers me the fleet of early 20th century or orcs technologies
Great work as always
Superb video. Superb craftsmanship. Excellent design sense.
This may be suitable for the dishwasher. But the dishwasher is not suitable for the piece.
Art and craftsmanship united. Great work
Congratulations, great work! Laughing a lot about the Kort Linolea break. In fact, it has already become an icon in your videos... hahaha
sinto cheiro de uma armadura medieval rústica vindo no canal. Um abraço aqui do Brasil amigo!
Such a cool and unique sculpture in steel. I really like the texture and the rivets. 😊
Esta linda obra de arte previsão durar longos 5000 anos. 🇧🇷🇧🇷
That's art nothing short of it.
Perfect dinner dish for a nice bowl of boiled linseed oil soup. Mmmmm, just like mom used to make.
😎
Beautiful!!! I like this style!
Blacksmithing poetry :) Great work Torbjörn ! :)
Very Good, keep the videos coming!👏👍🦾
I love it! Beautiful work as always!
"DANGER Engage brain before using this machine" I've just made 3 of those stickers for my woodworking shopI
Thanks! Yes, great stickers!
Love the new danger sign!!!
Craftmanship, artistry, technique, great lighting on the final shots, and were those grade 8 bolts for alignment, wow
Beautiful work.
Fantastic artwork. Love the style and design details.
Awesome. Think ill make one as a xmas gift for my mom this year.
Great! Thanks
They say if you have nothing nice to say that you shouldn't say anything, so i'll try to make this criticism positive.
This is the first and only thing i've ever seen you make which i don't adore. I think the exaggerated hammered texture makes this genuine, skillfully created piece of craftsmanship look like it's fake and made of plastic. it seems like something that an affluent banker or lawyer would have on their coffee table, instead of the humble, practical, wholesome, unique and beautiful pieces you have made in the past which made me fall in love with your channel.
Please never fall into the trap of making things you think the algorithms will enjoy over the tens of thousands of people who love you for your uniqueness
I was wondering who commissioned a Brussel sprout/Horseradish plate for those two evil foods, but then at the end it was just a display piece, I knew no one was that mad.
Beautiful work, and beautiful design, thanks for sharing, hugs from southern Argentina.
Nice. The aestethics lokks like something from the forges of Isengard. Really nice!
You’re work is absolutely amazing keep up the great work
Simple but elegant Thanks Thunder Bear
Beautiful and very creative piece Torbjorn! Masterful matching of the parabola's too and best of all the final setting in the window sill really pops! Loved it and learned a bunch too! Thanks Always for you great content and videography!! Hat Tip, ~PJ
Much appreciated, thanks PJ!
Jag har tittat på dina videor länge och slutar aldrig att beundra ditt arbete. Tack för ännu en release.)
Tack!!
I think the serious genius in this piece, is when you stopped and it was linseed oil time. I knew you were done. It's perfect. If I had your skill set, I'd obsess and turn it into a monster. Well done as always T🎗
That dish is beautiful.
Gracias por permitirnos apreciar la belleza de las obras de arte que vas creando con tus propias manos. No me salen las palabras para expresar el placer que me provoca al observar la textura del acabado que le diste. Felicitaciones desde Argentina.
Great design
Wow. Just wow. Incredible work.
Brutally beautiful! Thanx for sharing your process. ✌️😎
Another amazing Masterpiece, as usual...thank You for sharing your artwork
Freekin AWESOME dude! Thank you for having this channel.
Thank you!
Phantastic forging art skills, and great cutting method for the flat steel….respects from Luxembourg 🇱🇺 Europe
