The transitions that Howard does between screams and cleans is extremely remarkable and is what makes him the "S" tier vocalist in my opinion. He has so much power in his voice for any style he chooses and never loses tone or volume. Howard really knows how to keep it metal. \m/
I found this channel a couple of days ago and now I'm binging it. Found the Dio playlist and I just love how natural your reactions are and how the community slowly turned you to enjoy metal so much. Personally slipknot was one of the bands that helped me channel so many emotions that I didn't know I had or knew how to express. Metal has made me acknowledge a lot of personal things and made me grow as a person. Thanks to you and your channel for reminding me of all that!
This makes me more than happy. Howard just killed it, every time! Thank you for the excellent breakdown of the techniques involved. Hope to hear more killswitch in the future!!!
"Between the velvet lies There's a truth that's hard as steel, yeah The vision never dies Life's a never ending wheel" I love the esoteric stuff Dio always puts in his lyrics.
There's nothing better, than finding something and then showing someone it and they actually love it never mind just liking it. In this case finding "something" was finding your channel which i love watching your reactions, and "it" being Killswitch Engage. I'm so glad someone asked for you to react to them, they've been some of my favorite reactions from you
I don’t know if it’s already underway, but I’d love to see a Tea Time Interview with Howard. He is a massive influence on my own singing, and I’ve followed him all the way through KSE, Light the Torch and even Sion. Seems like such a humble guy too. 😊
KSE have been so fortunate to have two amazing vocalists. Howard and Jessie were exactly what was needed when they were needed. And they continue to make amazing music. I suggest checking out Jessie and Adam D's project Times of Grace. It's a different vibe completely.
I dunno how true this is cuz I've been bothered to check but my friends all said Phil from all that remains was even their vocalist before Jessie. I went to see killswitcg when Howard was having health problems so he had to cancel last minute and they had talked Phil into filling in the rest of the tour. They changed their tour shirts from a generic KsE a graphic and dates on the back to 9ne entirely the same but the name said philswitch engage instead.
@@masonpope9015 that's not accurate. Phil was the first vocalist for Shadows Fall before Brian Fair joined the group. Phil did try out for KSE after Jesse left the band in 2002, and he was called upon to fill in for the tour after Howard's departure in 2010, but that's as far as Phil's association with KSE goes.
One of my favorite songs by them is Arms of Sorrow. Howard Jones' voice in that song is so beautiful and he uses it so well. Another one of my favorite songs is The End of Heartache, he uses so many techniques and really displays a lot of range.
Great breakdown! Howard Jones is one of the most unique metal vocalists in the modern era, his range is incredible and the power he can convey through the music is unreal. Seeing him live is a must see! If you're looking for more talented metal vocalists to look into try Sarah Collier from Starkill. Specifically the song "Manufactured Bliss" off of their 2019 record "Gravity" It has a unique blend of ethereal female vocals combined with harsh male growls accompanied by a combination of heavy guitars, fast drums, and orchestral sounds that compliment each other really really well.
Please do more Killswitch, good choice is “Signal Fire”, shows both Jesse’s and Howard’s vocal styles together and has a great message about mental health.
I recommend checking out "Break the Silence" or "My Curse" by Killswitch Engage. Those songs display a lot of Howard's range and ability extremely well.
I honestly don't think there is anyone else in music that sounds like Howard Jones. I've never listened to any other song where I was like "wow, he sounds like Howard Jones!" Just one of the best.
I'm so glad that you got around to this one. I immediately thought of it after watching you react to Dio's. There are tone of songs from Killswitch that Howard does an amazing job with. Arms of Sorrow, Save Me, My Curse, Break the Silence, and Rose of Sharyn. Then you get into Killswitch with Jesse and Signal Fire literally ties the two old/new/old singers in a great sone. And then there's The Blade and Inside the Hollow by Sion that Howard sings and they're such powerful songs. He's just absolutely great
I used to gig with the bassist Mike when he was still in Overcast! He has our demo. When Overcast broke up Unearth thought they would get Mike but he formed Killswitch Engage 😅
You must be a Masshole lmao. The central Mass music scene at that time was phenomenal. Hilarious remembering that about Unearth. Also, Phil from All That Remains was pretty much 2nd choice to lead Killswitch when Jesse left. Thankfully Howard(who we knew from Blood Has Been Shed) got the job. Got me all nostalgic 😂
@@samhersh2134 actually Since the Fall was a Reading PA HC/Metal band. RIP Ronnie James Dio, I was listening to Eddie trunk on Q104.3 in New York when he passed away and I was riding in my car and it was one of the saddest moments he was truly one of the greatest metal singers of all time. My father was a big rock fan and I hope that they’re singing it out in heaven :)
One thing about KSE is that they have fun, both in videos and live. I’ve seen them almost a dozen times and they’re not above being dorks onstage 🤘🏽 also if you can find a full clip, Howard Jones singing “Simple Man” 🤯. Shinedown probably has the best cover but the soul Howard has in his cover 🤌🏽
One thing I love about your videos is that it's like relistening to the song from a whole new perspective that makes it almost like new. You also have a way for putting how I feel into actual words that I could never express. Thank you for your content!
This is going to be great! This is such a good cover. My favorite KSE memory is seeing them play this song live to close out the show. It was a cherry on top of an already incredible show.
I always love seeing you do reactions to my favorite bands, Elizabeth, and your enthusiasm for Howard's vocal abilities is thrilling! If you are looking for another vocalist that excels in very smooth transitions from clean to harsh vocals, I *HIGHLY* recommend checking out Bjorn Strid of the band Soilwork! He has made a career out of effortless vocal transitions while displaying immaculate technique and an incredible breadth of stylistic application. My top picks would be the songs "As We Speak" or "The Ride Majestic", but it's hard to go wrong with any of the selections from their amazing history. Thanks for another wonderful video!
The whole tribute album this is on was really good- Ronnie James Dio: This is your life is the name of the album. Corey Taylor sang Rainbow in The Dark, Tenacious D performed Last in Line, Motorhead did Starstruck, and a bunch of other metal bands.
I'd love to see you do a reaction to the band Seven Spires. Adrienne Cowan's voice is absolutely incredible, and she manages to hold down strong belting, guttural vocals, and lzzy hale-esque grit while still incorporating operatic elements. "Gods of Debauchery" might be a good place to start.
Absolutely love all things Killswitch! Analysis of Jessie Leach, the band's original and now current signer would be excellent as well. His raw screaming is some of the craziest I have heard - perhaps a song like "My Last Serenade" for a taste of his earlier work, and "Hate by Design" for some of his later work!
Love this analysis and any excuse to cover Howard Jones or Killswitch Engage is always appreciated. I still think it would be awesome if we could get an analysis of Within Temptation's "Dangerous (feat. Howard Jones)" to get more of Howard's beautiful melodic voice
This has always been my favorite cover of Holy Diver, so glad to see you finally analyze it. I'd like to recommend "Voodoo" by Godsmack for a future video.
The band members played all the major characters in the video, Adam played the princess. The red eyed character in this video is a nod to the mascot for Dio, the large black figure on the cover for the Holy Diver album.
This one is going to be fun! It would be very fun to see your analysis of Queen - Somebody to love live in Montreal 1981. One of my favorite live performances of them.
I had the good fortune of hanging out with Howard after a Killswitch show in the early 2000's, super humble guy, and super positive dude. His enthusiasm was infectious.
Glad to see you talking about Howard Jones again! I really love his vocals, especially his cleans. I would love to hear your thoughts on Ross Jennings from Haken! Cockroach King, The Good Doctor, and Prosthetic are some of my favorites by them!
Truly a great vocalist. Howard Jones knows what he is doing! A really great cover too. Dio has inspired so many of the great singers we have today. It just shows, using good practices, what you can do with your voice.
Would love to see a video about Amaranthe, a 3-vocalist band with clean female, clean male, and harsh male vocals. Drop Dead Cynical or Viral would be fun
Found this channel at the end of last week and watched a few vids… I would like to say this kind of content is chill and easy to vibe to especially since some of the songs/bands I listened to a lot back in high school. Also I would like to recommend the band Avenged Sevenfold - “So far away”
So much fun! Love this cover of the masterful Dio. Howard Jones is brilliant. Of course if you also want to hit a powerhouse vocalist there is one worth checking out more in the rock genre. John Farnham has a whole catalogue of tracks that you should check out. Particularly his live performances. His covers of The Beatles "Help", AC/DC's "It's a Long Way to the Top", Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" (just a sound check recording) or his own tracks like the Anthem "You're the Voice". You wont regret taking the time to give him some time. He's called The Voice for a reason. His range and vocal skills are second to none.
Hard or near impossible to do as good as Ronnie James Dio, but this is pretty good. I've seen a couple other live covers on RUclips by Devilskin and Burning Witches that are decent. Would love to see your thoughts on New Zealanders Devilskin and Jenny Skulander on vocals. Voices, Fade or Pray would probably be good to start with.
I absolutely love seeing the excitement in your eyes when listening to metal musicians. I'd love to see you analyze Polyphia "Goat." It's an instrumental track, but it's so technically sound in guitar, drs, and bass that I'd love to hear your take on it.
YES!!!!!! 🤘😎🤘 In my opinion they did a great job showing Dio respect while putting their own spin on it. It’s my favorite cover of this song. Enjoy! 😁 Much love, peace and as always…. MTFBWY!
I would love to hear your take on almost any Coheed & Cambria track, but "The Crowing", "Unheavenly Creatures", and "The Dark Sentencer" would be stand outs. Love the videos, thanks for making them!
Howard has always been on a whole different level vocally and he’s a great guy to the fans. Saw them live was one of the best life events I ever had back then. 🤘
I have been getting more and more into these "scream" rock tunes. Thank you for being so detailed in your observations, it has made me more aware of what they are doing. I recently went to a Slipknot concert with my daughter. I really enjoyed it; the music was perfect and the "crunchy" vocals was unbelievable. I am curious if you have done or will be doing any Slipknot reviews?
In my opinion this is one of the best covers ever. I love your reactions to these songs. You can visually see your appreciation and love for it with every note and lyric. Side note… I noticed you picked up on it a little but every one of the band members plays a different character in the video. Even Adam D plays the princess. Lol. I really enjoy watching every one of you’re reactions. Thank you.
I really love Howards vocals, both clean and harsh. But there is something special about his harshs, they feel like having a very harmonious pitch to them.
Loving your content. Very entertaining, and enlightening to listen to your passionate analysis of a lot of my favorite artists. Including, but not limited to, TOOL, DEFTONES, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, and many more. Your analysis of all these favorites of mine, have actually helped me to appreciate them even more. So, thank you 🙌 A few others, I'm unsure if you've done, that I'd thoroughly enjoy hearing your take on...ATREYU, AUDIOSLAVE, and VOLBEAT. Keep up the good work🤘😎🤙

So excited, been wanting this one for ages! Howard Jones and Dio's song, a perfect combo. Also shockingly my first introduction to the song!
This makes me more than happy. Howard just killed it, every time! Thank you for the excellent breakdown of the techniques involved. Hope to hear more killswitch in the future!!!
"Between the velvet lies
There's a truth that's hard as steel, yeah
The vision never dies
Life's a never ending wheel"
I love the esoteric stuff Dio always puts in his lyrics.
There's nothing better, than finding something and then showing someone it and they actually love it never mind just liking it. In this case finding "something" was finding your channel which i love watching your reactions, and "it" being Killswitch Engage. I'm so glad someone asked for you to react to them, they've been some of my favorite reactions from you
Howard's clean vocals have a certain richness to it them. Absolutely love him singing with Jesse in The Signal Fire
Hands down my favorite music analysis channel on RUclips. You shine knowledge and positivity!
I don’t know if it’s already underway, but I’d love to see a Tea Time Interview with Howard. He is a massive influence on my own singing, and I’ve followed him all the way through KSE, Light the Torch and even Sion. Seems like such a humble guy too. 😊
Came here to say this 👍 I too would love to see an interview with Howard and hear about his story and vocal techniques
If you love his vibrato style here, you're gonna love it on "My Curse" by the same band, of course. Arguably his best vocal performance.
@@CrazyChris576 ah fuck how did I mix those two up? They're nothing alike. Thanks for setting it straight for me
Was so thinking your chuckle about the turkey leg was over making the connection that the king, "is that the drummer?", was eating a drumstick.
If you liked this Killswitch song, then PLEASE check out My Curse (the album version)!! It really showcases Howard Jones' voice!
I can't stop watching your videos. And it is an absolute please to see other people recognise Howard Jones and Killswitch Engage.
I have been waiting for this! Howard Jones is one of the most underrated singers and Killswitch is amazing. Thanks for doing this!
As a major major Dio fan, I totally respect this cover. He does an amazing job, adding some of his own extra heavy touches (cookie monstering...lol)
It's a damn fine, respectful and yet evolved cover. Dope af.
I honestly don't think there is anyone else in music that sounds like Howard Jones. I've never listened to any other song where I was like "wow, he sounds like Howard Jones!" Just one of the best.
My all time favorite singer. Not even a competition.
Our singer was from CT and we played CT, Mass, RI, NH all over NY state (Met Overcast the first in Rochester, too bad me and my fellow dreadhead singer were SXE Brian asked us fkr weed so we missed out on thst😅 We played Boston Metal Fest 99 both nights and I think met them there. They had a punk fill in Bassist who talked about shitting himself live in a Zine interview. Trevor had Pink Glasses and short hair. Then we played Hellfest 2001... I miss those days.
I would LOVE to see her do the Tenacious D cover of Last in Line
You can tell how much fun they had doing the song and the video. Just a bunch of talented artists kicking butt at something they're great at.
I discovered Ronnie James from the Killswitch cover. I will always be grateful to them.
Or anything from an evening with Godsmack nick acoustic. Concert
Yes to Voodoo!
Thank you for lining out a song a I really love, its the best cover from a band that is fantastic! Thank you so much!
The band members played all the major characters in the video, Adam played the princess. The red eyed character in this video is a nod to the mascot for Dio, the large black figure on the cover for the Holy Diver album.
Howard is absolutely amazing. He could sing damn near anything and it would be beautiful and metal and amazing.
This one is going to be fun! It would be very fun to see your analysis of Queen - Somebody to love live in Montreal 1981. One of my favorite live performances of them.
Hi macslee, Elizabeth has been working on a Freddie Mercury/Queen full analysis, not just one song but why they're great.
Cockroach King, The Good Doctor, and Prosthetic are some of my favorites by them!
haken absolutely slaps, and in terms of being vocally interesting id love to see crystallized. The group vocal section is so cool.
Amaranthine would be the best showcase
@@Kairos_Karasu amaranthine is a good showcase of the vocals, but the actual music is more fun in DDC ans Viral.
Howard is one of my favorite vocalists of all time
Found this channel at the end of last week and watched a few vids… I would like to say this kind of content is chill and easy to vibe to especially since some of the songs/bands I listened to a lot back in high school.
Also I would like to recommend the band Avenged Sevenfold - “So far away”
This is my favorite Dio cover of all time! I love Killswitch Engage with Howard and Jesse!
Howard is an absolute beast. One of the greatest singers ever
Check out The Signal Fire by Killswitch. You can analyze both Jesse Leach and Howard Jones on one badass song!!
Plz do!
I also recommend checking out Jesse alone. My last serenade.
I highly recommend Rose Of Sharyn. His vocals are crazy powerful, especially live
YES!!!!!! 🤘😎🤘
In my opinion they did a great job showing Dio respect while putting their own spin on it. It’s my favorite cover of this song. Enjoy! 😁
Much love, peace and as always…. MTFBWY!
Whooo hooo!!! This was a video I was waiting for!!! I remember asking for this in one of your videos, too!!
I would love to hear your take on almost any Coheed & Cambria track, but "The Crowing", "Unheavenly Creatures", and "The Dark Sentencer" would be stand outs. Love the videos, thanks for making them!
The Light and The Glass
I've been such a huge Coheed fan since 2005. The comics their tracks and albums are based on are really good too
I cant say ive ever listen to coheed. But if you're mentioning them on a kse track i may have to check them out!
@@letsrock12345 They’re more prog rock than metalcore.

Love you and how you been doing metal lately , you grew on me so much as fast when I came across your channel last year
Um brasileiro aqui comentando. A voz desse cara é um patrimônio pouco reconhecido pela humanidade. O cara é um monstro!
2 aqui kkkk simplesmente magnifico
Howard has always been on a whole different level vocally and he’s a great guy to the fans. Saw them live was one of the best life events I ever had back then. 🤘
I have been getting more and more into these "scream" rock tunes. Thank you for being so detailed in your observations, it has made me more aware of what they are doing. I recently went to a Slipknot concert with my daughter. I really enjoyed it; the music was perfect and the "crunchy" vocals was unbelievable. I am curious if you have done or will be doing any Slipknot reviews?
I recommend Alice in Chains and Pantera if you like Killswitch Engage and Slipknot. 🤟
So, thank you 🙌
A few others, I'm unsure if you've done, that I'd thoroughly enjoy hearing your take on...ATREYU, AUDIOSLAVE, and VOLBEAT. Keep up the good work🤘😎🤙
Whenever Elizabeth starts talking about holy divers and swords I get a little nervous.
I would be really nervous if there was a holy hand grenade on Elizabeth's shelf! But swords are ok...I should know, I have one too...and an Axe and a Shield...😁👉🗡🪓🏹

YES!!! IM SO HAPPY YOU GOT TO ANALYZE THIS COVER!!! People tend to hate it because it's not a 100% faithful cover, they revamped the solo and threw harsh vocals in there. But as you can see, they did it TASTEFULLY and respectfully! If ANYONE could nail a Dio cover, it's howard fuckin jones!Jones!! (Also did you notice the princess is the lead guitarist Adam? XD)
You know what I seen this 100 times and never noticed that until just now lol

I had been so hoping you’d react to this song! Great cover, great reaction.
Adam D as the princess always gets me chuckling. Every time.
A big beautiful hairy princess
Thank you charismatic voice. I didn’t think it was possible to find new depths of appreciation for heavy metal and you have delivered. Throw the aussies some love 🇦🇺 parkway drive all day.
Another great video, thanks! I see you are less than 2 thousand subscribers off the MILLION too!!! So well deserved, you do such a brilliant job. Always will listen and learn and love!
Would really want to see what words you would choose on " Howard Jones's cover of simple man ". My own reaction was. First of all I broke down in tears, Second is his story telling in this video.. Sooo much emotion but so sweet, It just melts my heart and soul everytime no matter how many times I listen to it. The goosebumps... Yeah you will know what i mean..!
"Where the heck is our full version!?" Such a beatiful cover!
Really want your words on this one!
Also it is making me so very happy listening to you appreciate how incredible his voice is.
bout to hit that big 1 mill subs huh? letsgooooooo
Just did! Thanks much, @Flugmorph !❤
Howard has been a vocal crush of mine for years. I saw KE with Jesse singing recently and he does a good job, but Howard is unmatched. 💜💜💜
This has become one of my favorite RUclips channels. Your reference to "Holy Grail" & "Coconuts" solidifies the fact that you are simply amazing. Me personally... I was expecting a reference to The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.
Finally!!! And thank you, great react as always.
Best cover ever. Loved it for ever. Howard Jones has the voice of an angel
Another amaaaazing cover of Dio includes two other folks you have recently done reacts to, Corey Taylor performed Rainbow in the Dark with Dio's band at a benefit concert for cancer, and Tenacious D performed Last in Line at that same concert!
