  • My short, relaxing walks are vital when I need to negotiate stress. Stress is the most common cause of my ankylosing spondylitis flare-ups. During these walks I incorporate a slower pace together with a measured breath much like I used in walking meditation as a Zen student, and similar to how I coached people in a corporate setting to release stress.

I am deeply sorry for the passing of your father. With AS, we understand how tiring the struggle can be. He was indeed a warrior and I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
AS is indeed frightening. I have mornings the pain is almost too great and I feel I cannot face another day. I surrender myself to my ritual and hope the pain diminishes enough over the next hour or two so that I can walk. Only other AS warriors understand the horror of mornings.
Remember you are not alone in your struggle. I will try to keep sharing what I do from day to day. May God grant you peace!
