You are right that the system is screwed up and he probably does deserve it. But if guys like Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron and Willy Mays didn’t get in unanimously no one should.
Far and away the best all around and pure hitter of my lifetime. In an elimination situation with 2 outs bottom 9 there is no one I want in the batters box than prime David Ortiz. No one.
It is amazing that almost all his postseason homers tied the game or gave the Red Sox the lead, or were otherwise hit in crucial clutch situations. For example, he wasn't the type of slugger who would hit solo home runs in the later innings to, say, cut a 7-0 lead to 7-1 or extend a 9-0 lead to 10-0. Pure stat padding. Instead, he'd hit walkoff homers, game-tying homers, homers in the late innings to cut the opponents' lead to a single run or extend Boston's lead to 2 or 3 runs, etc. Clutch
I agree. What's funny though, some clown at SABR about 10-12 years ago attempted to analyze what constitutes a "clutch" hit. He failed, and because he failed he determined that there is no such thing. I felt like telling him to watch David and he'll learn.

I didn't think anything would ever eclipse the HR against the Yankees in Game 4 of the 2004 ALCS, but the 2013 ALCS grand slam against the Tigers may be his most enduring postseason highlight. It led to that iconic image of Hunter going upside down in the dugout while the officer celebrated, it turned that series around, and it added some mythic luster to the "This is our f---in' city!" speech earlier in the year, after the bombing. Ortiz is like a folk hero.

The fact that Ortiz has 9 and a half minutes of homers just in the post season alone just goes to show how good of a hitter he is. MLB is rigged if he doesn't make the hall of fame.

One of the best things that ever happened to him was when he got all those nagging foot/ankle injuries in his mid career (like '08, '09). Realized he had to lose weight if he wanted to stay in the league. Slimmed down and was better than ever for the next 7 years. Also the worst part of this video is all the Tim McCarver.
