If there was an upper deck in CF, it would've made it up there, easily. My best estimate, using Google Earth, is that that ball probably carried between 520-530ft. Never seen anything else like it. that crowd pop is incredible, absolutely electric.
Truly one of the greatest sorry his off field stuff and injury kept him kept him from his potential
I remember me and my cousin watching this at his house, we were on the edge of our seats and in disbelief the whole time
Hamilton’s blasts looked more impressive than Vlad Jr’s
@@DTB1995 vladdys a rookie with a lot more pressure tho
Daniel Barwatt give the kid 3,4 more years and you’ll see the greatest HRD ever
Mike John , ah NO! 😳🙄🤔🤷♂️🤦♂️
@@flow1742 the only way Vlad beats Josh is if they go back to the old format.
Vlad hit way more, Hamilton hit them further.
Nothing will ever top this
I was there that night...Ive never heard a sound like Josh Ham hitting or the way the ball jumped off his bat....It was incredible, he had Mickey Mantle, Darryl Strawberry type natural power
One of the greatest players ever, natural ability at its finest. He was awesome
It’s crazy ..I’m not even a baseball fan but i remember this day …i literally forgot until they mentioned the all star game on ESPN…but i was on the field all the way in some gated area with my PAL i was in 8th grade
That was. The best hr derby I watched it and I was in awe
Josh Hamilton, crazy story. Its amazing this home run derby wouldn't have been the same. Wonder how many other indigo children have not lived up to there potential because of the pressures of society?
That’s one smooth swing. Reminds me a little of Ken Griffey Jr.
Even though Josh didn’t win the Derby that year. No one will top this performance.
Except Pete Alonso in 2021.
@@mattj4211 Alonso’s performance was stellar!
His bat sounds so shallow 😂 he really was crushing the ball
Whos here after Alonso just hit 35 in Round 1
yep. Alonso’s a beast but with the old format it looks more impresive
@@fabri1314 how? He can take as many pitches as he wants, take breaks
@@fabri1314 Having seen plenty of both formats, I think they’re both not very exciting…but other than 2008, and maybe a couple of others, the 10 out format was boring as SHIT
@@fabri1314 just seeing dudes take pitch after pitch after pitch was brutal
Yep
Just me Clay Council (the guy who pitched to him) at my son's HS baseball game. Big supporter of HS baseball and a really great guy.
One of the most naturally talented players ever. He was incredible.
Hamilton may not have won. But his derby performance is one of the most memorable ever
This is still the greatest HR derby performance ever. Hitting multiple 500 ft plus bombs in less then 10 swings…getting 28 moonshots with only 10 strikes when you could get 30 plus strikes in the new HR derby era.
