Dude, He's the Greatest Clutch hitter of all time. I'd say he outstrips Reggie Jackson and Babe Ruth in the Clutch category. Don't take it the wrong way, Reggie had big hits in big games, but Ortiz seems to have game changing or winning hits in every series he played in. His 2004 ALCS was equally impressive, as was his 2007 and 2004 WS. He was MVP of multiple playoff series and hit about .300 for his post season Career. His Home Run Rate, his batting average, and his RBI rate all increased in the playoffs, and it seems the ALCS and WS in particular, his Batting AVG was far higher than his regular season numbers.

@@avigdorbenhaim2551 @Avigdor Benhaim Not at all and it's not particularly close. Martinez was remarkable at DH and their stats are kind of similar in some ways - like .933 OPS for Martinez vs .931 for Ortiz. But Ortiz produced more over a longer period of time, which is why he has 500 more RBIs, 200 more runs and 200 more homers. So while some average stats go for Martinez (ex. OBP), Ortiz produced a significantly more over their respective careers. When the averages are close, quantity really matters and that alone makes Papi a far better DH over the course of their careers. If two guys have OPS's of 140+ over course of their careers, the guy who maintains that significantly longer is simply the better player. Then there's the postseason and this is where Martinez doesn't just take a back seat, he's not even allowed on the bus. Martinez shrunk in the postseason, hitting .266 and a OPS .873 and winning nothing over 36 postseason games. In fact, he was truly dreadful when his team lost their postseason series, hitting .087, .150, .238 and .188. He was a large reason his teams never made it to the World Series. Ortiz .289 with a .947 OPS against the best pitchers and the best teams out there over 85 games, winning 3 World Series and delivering some of the most clutch baseball ever seen. It's rare for a hitter to post BETTER statistics during the postseason when the pitching tends to dominate but Ortiz did and in truly spectacular fashion. This isn't a knock against Edgar.
