I'm from that part of the world growing up, exactly that, it is a good snap shot of a festive night, but normally life is pretty mundane and we all dreamed of leaving to find bigger and better things. Life is not easy here, work is expected as early as 10 years old, although less and less school age are in the workforce, but I did start working at 14. Which is relatively old for the time. Life in Ohio or on any small village in the Malay peninsula is not much different, it does take a different grit to be successful in both places.
This is about so much more than amazing foods: cultural understanding, politenes and human interaction. Mark: your videos contributes to an intercultural tolerance and acceptance in a way no politicians could ever dream of. And you inspire to healty living and make me wanna cook to my loveones.

Patani was the homeland to my late grandfather before he settle down in malaysia 70 years ago. According to My mum, our relatives still in Patani but we never been there.

We bit the bullet early on and did what our public health people said we needed to do. I would be lying if I said it wasn't tough. But after the initial lockdown (2 very long, very tough months), things became easier to take. There's always that fear that a second wave of infections could happen any day though.
I have never seen anyone in any entertainment media enjoy their food and be more grateful than you Mark....It is such a pleasure watching you eat and explain the food, the culture, the wonderful people of Thailand and of any other country you're visiting....I really wish I was there to witness all of the preparations and to eat such unique dishes....The squid was very interesting....I have never seen anything like that in my life.....Well done Mark!.....
"Tupak Sutong" or "Ketupat Sotong" is actually quite common in East Coast of Malaysia - Kelantan & Terengganu too. I guess you missed out this unique dish during your adventure in Terengganu & Kelantan. Plus, our culture are pretty similar with Pattani Malay people. My ancestor, from my dad side originated from Pattani too. I'm Terengganu born btw. Hehe. Subs done!

At 01:20, the lady refers to Ketupat Sotong (rice cake wrapped in squid). In their Malay dialect, 'tupak' refers to ketupat.
