    The Charles I D Looff carousel that once operated at Luna Park in Seattle was shipped to Playland in 1911 or 1913 at Ocean Beach in San Francisco when Luna Park was destroyed by fire. That historic Looff carousel was built in 1905 and was originally supposed to operated at Playland in San Francisco, but due to the great 1906 earthquake it was sent up to Luna Park in Seattle. That historic Charles Looff carousel was fully restored in the late 1990's and still operated at Yerba Buena Park in San Francisco

    Exploring areas where parks once stood has always been an interest of mine. Very recently I went to the West View Park shopping center in Pittsburgh to look around and see where rides once stood. Even by just driving around there, you could tell something was off. It didn't feel like a shopping center at all and felt out of place in its location. An unnecessarily large car park sits on where a once great racing coaster thrilled riders, and an auto shop sits over the plot where their iconic Dips roller coaster flew through a low to the ground banked turn. I'd love to see more videos like these in the community of rediscovering parks lost to time!

    • @JNattyBoi
      @JNattyBoi  2 года назад +1

      Very cool! It's amazing how many small parks once populated America. Case in point, I had never heard of West Lake Park before reading your comment, but I just looked it up and it looks incredible! Two Vettel-designed coasters including a Mobius racing coaster?? Thanks for the comment and glad you liked the video :)

    Fascinating video for someone that only briefly went to Seattle in 2009, and mostly commenting to commend using Hollow Knight OST for background music, which was both a surprise and a delight to hear.

      I wasn't sure how this video would land for those who aren't too familiar with Seattle, so that's awesome to hear. Thanks for the comment - I was obsessively exploring every corner of Hollownest while making this video, so it was a natural music choice.

    Love the in-person documentary style video (found this channel via RCT but stayed for the rest of the content), the extra planning and filming for this video looks great and sets it apart from other roller coaster/theme park themed videos. Niche/often unheard of park history + on-location segments filmed with good video and (esp) audio quality, this deserves much more views!

    I really wish the guy behind pier 57 would make a whole park of his own. I really think given how well themed Wings Over Washington is that if he was given the right tools and space he could be Washington’s Walt Disney. Well almost

    • @JNattyBoi

      @@JNattyBoi the problem is lack of space. The wheel was originally going to be a coaster but there wasn't enough room so they settled for the wheel. Also the local businesses would probably complain about the noise. They often complain about the lights on the wheel at night

    Seattle is a really beautiful and amazing city. Too bad it's one of many cities that stick out like a sore thumb for not having any major amusement parks.
    Another one of those cities being Houston, Texas, after Astroworld closed forever in 2005. New Orleans also falls into the category after SFNO was murdered by Hurricane Katrina earlier that same year.
