I am a Seattle-born Boomer now...I am so glad that Seattle has retained much of it's 1962 World's Fair properties!..I attended the Fair as a 15yo kid...it was a revelation to me...and it really graduated Seattle from being just another big "town", into a very progressive, more modern big City! For sure, the Fair was the most significant Civic event of the last half of the 20th century. It should be noted, that surrounding local smaller towns and neighborhoods boost the population of the local area to well over 2 million. The Seattle I grew up in had maybe a half million folks. Time marches on!

If there isn’t grey sky and rain I can’t bring myself to believe it’s real as the multiple times we’ve visited from Australia is has been nothing but rain rain rain. I was surprised you didn’t know there was a restaurant at the top of the Space Needle. (Not meant as a criticism). I have been there a couple of times, DECADES ago. I got my first job after graduation the UW years back and took my friends for a dinner there. I really enjoyed how you’ve shown things that have come to be since the Worlds Fair. Seattle Center is something that has amazingly survived from the 1963 event. I was a busboy there and worked at Orange Julius as well. I loved being able to go to the Science Center over and over. VERY NICE WALKING TOUR

A life-long resident of this area...and I can tell you that while people here are superficially "nice", they are not particularly warm, friendly folks. Younger people seeking mates, refer to the "Seattle Freeze:, wherein, you exchange phone numbers, and then nothing is followed up! Of course, more people now just go to various dating sites on their cell phones!...glad I am old now!

That little fountain is not the "iconic" fountain. The main one is called The International Fountain and it is huge, probably 50 times this size of the small one in front of Space Needle. Lived in Seattle for 70 years and have been there too many times to count. Also the Gum Wall is just right below Pike Place market, you walked right by it. It's right below the famous flying fish market.

Seattle has many sunny days, beginning from late April, and increasingly through late September. But it also has many cloudy/ rainy days, and is tied with London for the least total number of sunny days!...I know about this, having lived my 76 years in the Seattle area. 38" of rain is not really that much in total, but it does show up unexpectedly, even in summertime! Seattle is like number 16 in the top 20 rainiest cities in the USA. As a native resident, it does not bother me, but transplants from other, sunnier parts of the country, frequently suffer from a type of depression "SAD"-seasonal affective disorder!

Alweg went out of business many years ago...but Seattle has it's own Monorail Repair facility, and somehow keeps that now elderly monorail going...There was a time when the monorail concept was considered the future of transportation for larger cities...but it is just too expensive to build and maintain...That Seattle monorail really has obstructed what was once a wide, city street, although some room for autos was factored in. As a Seattle native, I like the concept, but realize it was not really a serious display for future transportation needs.

I was so sad, when the venerable, rotating restaurant atop the Space Needle was replaced with just a sort of sandwich bar!...the viewing area is more modern though. Still, it was nice to have a nice dinner at the old restaurant, while the entire restaurant rotated 360* once an hour, providing excellent views of Seattle! It was pricey, but not too bad. The Needle is slightly over 600' tall, but the viewing deck is at the 550' level. The late civic dynamo, Eddie Carlson, got the idea for the Needle, when visiting a European country that had a similar structure. Eddie grabbed a table place mat, and scribbled a very basic outline as to what he thought the Space Needle should look like. That place mat was kept by Carlson for years, but eventually went on display in a local Museum! Carlson himself was an amazing success story...He started out as a bell-hop at a Seattle Hotel, and ended up as Vice -President of Westin Hotels! He was integral to the idea of having a World's Fair in Seattle. We were blessed to have a group of civic business leaders who shared a great vision. The Fair drew over 10,000,000 folks in the summer of 1962...and was one of only two World's Fairs in history, to actually make a profit.
