What the Dr. says at the beggining is esential: we won't have enough willpower to fast if we don't have our mind in order.
I quit smoking more than 6 months ago, I quit a job that I didn't like so much, my anxiety went down a lot and now I am at peace.
I can do everything I set my mind to.
    I'm in control.

very true...many people are trapped in lives they hate because of money or need for acknowledgement....they re afraid what others might think of them if they choose another path...until they crash and burn and end up in a burnout which drains them or even worse, they get a serious illness due to the stress and then they suddenly overthink their whole lives...when your heart and mind are at peace, your stress levels are low, you are more energetic and have a more positive view on life and you re actually able to enjoy your life and live it,not just have time pass by until you go on the next vacation....

What a joy to listen to 2 brilliant medical minds discussing such a vitally important subject. My husband is also a medical doctor and I can vouch that it's not only tough selling the idea of fasting to those in the medical profession, but to the patient! I find it interesting that the same people who criticize and diss doctors and big pharma are also unwilling to even discuss the benefits of fasting!. - They complain that fasting is painful? Well so is illness. So is paying that pharmacy bill. And that hospital bill. It's darkly AMAZING how arrogant close-minded people can be. - I convinced my husband of the vast benefits of fasting, by fasting my way to a healthier weight, outstanding blood test results, tighter skin, a serious increase in energy, clearer mind and brain function, etc., etc., etc.! Our Creator created us beautifully. All we have to do is practice logical thinking. And hatch an ounce of faith

Up until now I had no idea why I was dragging myself through each day with zero energy. And I tried everything to feel better with no success. I just wish I have had come across this information decades earlier, since I'm 47 years old now, but I guess it's better late than never.. Another brilliant conversation. Over the last few months I’ve started going about 14 hours without food & having eaten breakfast all my life (60+) I haven’t found it nearly as hard as I imagined. So far I haven’t gone to 18 or 24 hours but I hope to try it. I’ve also drastically reduced processed food & added sugar & increased plant diversity while still having some meat, fish, eggs & dairy. All “low fat” products have gone. I’ve lost about 10lbs & knee pain I’d had for 3 years has greatly reduced. I assume that’s partly down to weight loss but also less inflammation. I've spent my whole life on this diet and that diet. After a few lbs loss they all did the same thing - slowed down my metabolism so that losing weight becomes harder. Additionally they involved doing something, thinking about food all the time, planning menus, counting calories, counting fibre, looking out for fat. Overall hard work and making me obsessed about food, which is hard when you are hungry. If you want to lose weight you need to stop thinking about food!! FASTING is different. It asks nothing of you except avoid food until it is time to eat. I've been doing One Meal A Day(OMAD). One a day I cook food and eat. That's all I need to do. I feel great and have lost 24 lbs in 2.5 months. I do not feel hungry until I've been fasting for 23 hours. It works. No easier diet exists. DO nothing and win.

Hey! What you are doing sounds amazing and super empowering. I have a question for you though! Im a female, and Im just trying to trim down and get into a healthier lifestyle. I want to be toned and fit like I was in high school as well. So, I myself, also want to do the one meal a day approach but im not sure how many calories is supposed to be crammed into that one meal, most people will tell you oh you need a minimum of idk lets say 1200 calories a day or your body wont lose the weight so that concerns me if I were to adopt the one meal a day approach. Im currently doing a 18:6 intermittent fast and eating clean and its been about 3 weeks now and Ive noticed that in my 6 hour eating windows im just not very hungry which is insane to me because I used to always be hungry. But basically, I tend to eat so much less with this fast. Sometimes I consume only 600-700 calories per day (in the 6 hour eating window) so I figured I can absolutely do the one meal per day. Can you explain about that a little more. Sorry for the long message but how should the one meal look? (Obviously whole foods & no processed sugars) but in terms of calories etc. Thanks again! ( :

@@yankees4life612 Well I've been calorie counting since I was a teenager and whilst I always lost weight the calorie counting always made me have to plan and think about food the whole time (obsessive). This time it was different. One Meal a Day eat what you think is good. Do not count, just be sensible. I have a piece of meat or fish, with low cal carb veg as much variety as possible; onions, shallots, bell pepper, toms, kale, cabbage, leaks garlic, chili. Avoiding the carbs is the key because it makes you fat adapted. No vegetable oil except olive oil and coconut oil, lard is good butter is good. Otherwise I'd have a large omelette with cheese. Always cook from fresh food, and I always have a tin of sardines each day to boost omega 3.

When I tell my friends and family that I do not have any cravings and I'm not hungry at all when I fast, they seem to not believe me :) I tell them to try it and find out for themselves. None of them have. I won't get into drawn-out explanations but since I started fasting a year ago I lost 56 lbs and my health has improved exponentially. My eating window is from 10am to 2pm. When 10am comes around, I'm often not hungry. I'm thinking of doing a 48 hr fast just to try it.

We have 7 fasting in the year: 1) Two month fasting at least 20 hrs fasting, 2) Another two months fasting , 3 ) 40 days fasting, 4. 16 days fasting, 5 ) 3 days fasting, 6) every wendnsday and Friday the whole year . You can calculate how many days we can fasting. My self I haven't taken any drugs in my life, I don't have any issues, 160lbs all the time, I don't get hungry. All my hunger is only black coffee ☕ 😩 other that none. I roastered my own coffee the way I want . I eat natural food, drink natural tea without sugar, drink water and sometimes some wine. So the conversation will help a lot people who believe in eating foods all the time. Thank Dcs.

Based on the research I have done and found how powerful fasting is. This body begins to clean itself and the additional information shared here by both doctors I am certainly going to only eat when I feel hungry. Thankyou for the information.
I would love to get hold of the protocol of this Doctor. It will be useful in situations such as diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, menopause symptoms and people can start support groups to empower, inspire, enable and support themselves in taking responsibility for their own health.

30 years ago when I was 40, I went on a 3-day water fast, having a mentor to supervise and already having had a clean, fresh and raw diet for 2 weeks to prepare myself, but I'[d always eaten well with minimal processed food. At about 2 1/2 days the left side of my body was so completely weakend that I was unable to control any movement and I was effectively paralysed that side. My mentor asked if I'd injured my back and on thinking about it, I had done and was told it was probably that injury that caused weakness and I assumed that I must have damaged nerves controlling that side. I broke the fast with easily-digested food and doing it sensibly. I felt absolutely fabulous; mentally I could move mountains and had the clearest thought process as I'[d never experienced before. The left side weakness instantly disappeared and physically I also felt great. On reflection at that time I felt I should have continued the fast to allow healing to complete.
I haven't done a fast since, although intermittent fasting, up to 18 hours, only occasionally.
I am now 70. I got married in my 40s. Life changed and I developed bad habits. My husband died of a brain tumour a month ago and taking care of him for the past year caused unbelievable stress and anxiety and grief. I have severe gastritis and many other health conditions which are making a normal life impossible, all because of my later life and stress.
Stress is a killer. I have been so reminded and encouraged to clean up my diet further (I've never resorted to processed food) and reduce the time I eat by this podcast, and will see what happens.
I am a nutritional therapist, retired, but stress attacks all of us.

Moral: be true to yourself, live YOUR life . Try not to have regrets and be kind to yourself and others.
Fasting has wonderful life saving properties but lifestyle is equally as important .
My body will repair given time.

It is not the lack of food in general during fasting that is good but the lack of carbohydrate and FORCING the body to go into ketosis that is good. Once the person understands WHY fasting is good to break the glucose cycle and fermentation pathways in cells and mitochondria then it is easy to understand the benefit and also what to eat after they come out of fasting.

I have been fasting annually for 4 years. I had a moderate case of psoriasis. Furthermore, I was taking a biologic to fight the symptoms. The first year I fasted for 14 days, and it made my psoriasis dormant for an entire year, leaving no traces. I didn't take any biologics, topical, or light therapy. After a year, the symptoms returned, but were very mild. The second year, I fasted for 10 days, experienced the same mild symptoms and only periodically had to take a topical for my scalp, knees and elbows. To the third and fourth years, the symptoms pretty much remained the same. I plan on fasting for 14 days the next time and see if it removes the symptoms entirely again. I want to add that during the year, once or twice, I'll do a 3-day and a 7-day fast.

I've been eating one meal a day for a bit more than 15 years. It wasn't a plan. I've never been a breakfast eater, and I got really busy with work and started skipping lunches and enjoying a meal in the evening. I liked eating this way and decided to stick with it. Everyone in my life tells me that I am going to get nutritional deficiencies and that I am damaging my body. I'm trim. I'm fit. I'm never sick. They are all mostly overweight and taking prescribed meds for various ailments. To appease everyone, I had a physical checkup and had blood work done. My blood work was perfect, but the doctor referred me to a nutritionist when I told him about my one meal a day eating. I met the nutritionist. She was horrified by my eating style. My main sources of calories are potatoes and beans. I eat all varieties of potatoes and all the varieties of beans. I make a huge pot of beans from dry beans every week. Freeze half of it and eat the other half during the week with steamed potatoes (I cut them up before steaming). My main condiment is salsa. I also usually toss a small handful of walnuts on top before I sit down to eat. Sometimes I add other veggies like broccoli, mushrooms or bok choy to the pot of steaming potatoes, but for most meals it's just potatoes and beans with salsa and walnuts. My desert is usually just a piece of fruit if I have it, which can be an orange, an apple or a bowl of berries. I drink water, nothing else. No booze. No juices. No coffee. No soda. The nutritionist gave me a bunch of literature about meal planning. She wanted me to eat three meals a day and include dairy products in my diet. She was nice and seemed genuinely concerned about me, but she was also fat. I didn't adopt any of her advice. It's two years later. I'm still healthy, fit, and trim and enjoying potatoes and beans. Everyone in my life is still telling me that I am going to get sick. After 15+ years, maybe tomorrow is the day.

My daughter, age 11, is never hungry in the morning - so she doesn't want breakfast and I have never forced her to eat. I think by forcing kids to eat at a certain time (or finishing their plate) we send the message that they should ignore their hunger cues, which is a bad long-term strategy for eating competency as they grow up.

Good for you! I was a terrible eater as a child. Terrible according to adults' criteria. I was having a reduced appetite, I used to wait until the food was at a tolerable temperature, I was chewing slowly until everything would become a paste and, if in the morning, I was always waiting until my tongue was awake too (this was one way of saying it, not knowing that, indeed, systems and organs do take time to wake up)... and so on and so forth. I started IF in November 2018. I was going through a real personal disaster, feeling lost, completely low. I found it on youtube and on a whim, I just did a 18hr fast and guess what "nothing happened". I experimented and got to 20:4 pretty fast even with work and everything. Since then, I have recommended it to many people I care about. I agree with all the benefits but as a layman:
    1. My confidence in my own body has gone up exponentially. I am more grateful for my health, I am extremely tuned into the feedback from my body.
    2. My will power has gone up.
    3. I now have added about an hour of meditation daily.
    4. I have since graduated to cold showers, running marathons and ultras, and to entrepreneurship.
It is freedom, good health, gratitude, confidence, will power, everything. Once you realize what an exquisite piece of machinery this body really is, you treat it better and you treat yourself better and that reflects in everything else that you do.

Fasting has saved mine and my fiancés life. He was severely diabetic and now his numbers are great. Blood pressure better. He's lost 100 pounds and I've lost 128. We both love gardening so we sold our house in California and were buying a piece of raw land to build a cabin and plant the biggest garden we can dream up. Major improvements. I recommend it whole heartedly. Oh, his cholesterol and acid reflux are also no longer requiring treatment other than the occasional tum. We sleep better. I could keep going. It's been good to us. And, for the first time in 25 years, I'm gonna go for a run with my daughter when
I visit her next week. 😊

Congrats! I have a question. What was your husbands starting weight and ending weight? I’m currently 295 and going for 195 and I’m wondering about the loose skin issues that I’ve seen for people who lose 100 or more pounds.

First day, 16 hours. Second day, 18 hours. Now, I’m at 45 hours and counting. Five pounds lost already. Lots of energy. Very clear mind. Slight headache, but I’ve been trying to up the electrolytes for that. Can’t believe how good I feel without food. And the hunger isn’t bad. It comes in waves, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. It’s so much easier to do this than calorie counting or portion control, and neither of those things ever work for me. I’m almost positive it’s because I’ve been insulin resistant. I’ve had a couple of tests where the doctors have said said my liver enzymes are “off,” too. Don’t know what that means, but I bet I have fatty liver. Going to see how long I can keep this fast and clean up that liver, my gut, kidneys, and everything else. Thanks to both of you for these videos on fasting. This may be one of the best things I’ve ever done.

Great video indeed. I'm becoming a bit of a medical detective - every time you mentioned a term/name I didn't recognize, I paused the video and learned something about it. Hahaha I'm laughing because, for me, nothing could be further from the truth. I keep putting off starting an exercise regime. "I must buy swimming shorts, I must buy swimming shorts".
Once your body is fat adapted, fasting becomes easy. Of course, it's better to build up to lengthier fasts gradually. There are one or two hunger pangs along the way but minimal willpower gets you through. Since my OP I did a 6 day fast to break a stall in weight loss. It totally worked. Got my waistline down to my ideal 36".

Exactly right! And Orthodox Christians (and Catholic Monastics) implement a guru-based Pythagorean/Platonic philosophical system of fasting and feasting regimens with musical accompaniment. Americans get ripped off constantly with fake "belief systems" and fake "pill packaged bottled" fake science and filthy factory foods. I am software engineer, but I don't eat CPU and memory chips. We compute (estimate) with our computing tools. Computers don't compute by themselves.
