    Thanks, this was way better than what I found. Was having trouble since I was using a transparent background. If anyone has the same issue. Know that there is a proper way to make effective stencils.

      Thx! Does it work for you now?

      yeah it helped a lot. MOst tutorials already had a stencil made and didn't explain what a proper stencil was.

      Christopher Fall Yeah that's true, thx for your input.

    Thanks. I especially like the SP tutorials as there are not a lot of good ones out there and there are a growing number of PBR shaders being developed for Blender. Perhaps one day Cycles will have true PBR rendering and will come with native Dielectric and Metal shaders.One suggestion I have is to spend a bit more time on how you are using the layers or refer to a previous tutorial on layers. I use SP so it was easy for me to follow and I understood what you were doing in adjusting the various options in each layer. But those new to SP or who are thinking about buying it probably need a little more explanation as to what you are doing in adjusting the layers, selecting brushes, how you add alphas for a project or permanently in the standardard SP shelf or your custom shelves.There is a fairly steep learning curve for SP, especially if you are not familiar with complex layering of materials, but once you get the hang of it, it is a huge time saver for really spectacular materals in Blender.

    Thank you , now it would be nice to explain how to import maps into blender and applied to have the same result :)

    • @JayAnAm
      @JayAnAm  8 лет назад

      Yes, nice idea. I am a gamedeveloper so I am more interested to import the materials into gameengines like UE4 or Unity like I showed here:
      ruclips.net/video/NCQc7jzyfZA/видео.html
      ruclips.net/video/I6Du9sg28tY/видео.html
      But I understand your use-case - and this is of course not that easy since Blender is not known for having a kind of out-of-the-box-pbr-shader-workflow

    Does the alpha have to be in PSD format or a tiff or PNG does the trick too? I own Sketchbook Pro, but not PS. I can make alphas so it should work too? Also, how can I color the stencil after I applied it? Like I want it to be yellow or a metallic paint in red. Please and thank you!

    Thanks sir.., But at starting you are baking normal map and other maps without adding high poly mesh.. why and how its bake details without adding high poly to bake option.. when i am at xnormal its necessary to add high poly mesh when we are going to bake high poly detail to low poly.. Please reply sir this question bothering me :/

    • @JayAnAm
      @JayAnAm  7 лет назад +1

      Hi, I understand your question, but when there is not highpoly model and you bake, things like AO or curvature are just baked from the low poly model - in xnormal you would achieve the same if you just add the low poly model to both slots - low and high poly - and you can still bake the maps.

    Nice but I use Substance Painter 2017.3.1 version and it won't let me select smart materials for my Fill layer, only Materials. So I'm stuck.

    • @JayAnAm
      @JayAnAm  6 лет назад

      When dragging a smart material to your layerstack you kind of automatically have a filled layer.

      @JayAnAm  7 лет назад

      Hi, I don't know what you are trying to achieve, cause I don't see that you have a stencil activated, you just selected a brush and you are painting with it. Please refer to 5:56 on how to use a stencil and an alpha.

      thanks for your reply! sorry about that, that i put the hard surface to normal
      this one imgur.com/a/pkKxm

    • @JayAnAm
      @JayAnAm  7 лет назад

      So you want to paint in just a normal, not a stencil? Refer to the documentation: support.allegorithmic.com/documentation/display/SPDOC/Normal+Map+Painting

    • @ronaldlee5324
      @ronaldlee5324 7 лет назад

      let me tell more information, i add a layer, add paint, choose default brush and beveled to stencil
      like this imgur.com/a/FlSiX
      however, i cant paint anything on that

    • @ronaldlee5324
      @ronaldlee5324 7 лет назад

      this is my main problem
      imgur.com/a/jP2EK
      not only the stencil paint on the model, the brush size also paint on that
