    This is a chilly April trip I did with my dog, a lively 9 month old Jack Russell Terrier. This little guy is built for this stuff and did great in my new Hammock.
    Join Toby and I on this adventure as I talk about the trip, new gear, camp tips and head home in the hail.

      Hi Troy, I really want to try crown land camping but I don't have the slightest idea how to find these areas in Ontario. Can you recommend any books, maps, URL's for anything that will further my quest to camp on these lands? Thanks!

    So nice having you back at it. I unsubscribe to channels that go inactive all the time and I never could bring myself to dropping your channel, it was just so great and to be rewarded with even better content is the best part of a snowy work day. Thank you for coming back!

    I have found my solo boat is nigh unmanageable in any wind with just me and my pack in it. I have to put some weight in the ends. I have solved this by carrying a couple of large drybags with me ... and when I need some ballast, I fill them with water and place them at either end of the canoe. That way, when it is portage time, I can dump them out and not carry all that weight ... and then refill at the other side.

    • @MaddyTheGoose
      @MaddyTheGoose  6 лет назад +1

      That's a great idea using the drybags with water. I think I'll be giving that one a shot, thanks for the tip and thanks for watching.

    • @xnbomb
      @xnbomb 6 лет назад

      Good thought. They are self-portaging, which is a plus. You have to feed them I guess.
      (Alas, I am dogless.)

    Excellent idea having the little gear loft tarp hooked up on the canoe as a shelter for Toby. Looks like he's taking advantage of it. Maddy had to rough it so much more with getting hit in bean with rain. She paved the way for him. :)

    • @MaddyTheGoose
      @MaddyTheGoose  6 лет назад

      Ha... yup, Maddy took one for the team in those early days. Toby is the perfect size for that tarp as well as fitting in the hammock. He'll be coming on plenty more trips for sure.

    They are great dogs. They can be a little much at times but that’s just how they are. My guy mylo adapt to our family and communicate with us very well. Especially when he needs something such as his toy the bathroom or food. He will make sure he gets ur attention. They are hyper and super fun dog if ur active. Not for home body people. These dogs sure loves to be outside and dig.

    I had a dog named Toby and he was the best dog I ever had.! I have encouraged all my other dogs since him.! Good luck with that.! Looks like you will definitely not have to worry about bears in camp with Toby establishing a perimeter..! Annie's dinners are far Superior with real cheese, unlike the KD that changed theirs recipe yet still call it original.! I called them out on this and they said it would take two years to change it back.!.Also you could almost flip Tobys tarp up for a small sail when going down wind.! Just found your show, so get ready for all my thumbs up. Thank you for sharing.!

    It's true that it only takes that one capsize. My parents spent 35+ years in the BWCA and finally got hit, badly. They flipped (capsized) in a rapid storm while out in the open, losing a bunch of expensive stuff, but worse: stuck on an island without real gear. They managed to stay safe enough overnight, huddled under the canoe, to get back to camp, but I think it was their last real backcountry trip. My pop said he wondered if they'd get out a all. Be safe!

    Just stumbled onto your channel and when I saw Jack Russell I had to click on to it. Lost my jack russell a few years ago, after 16 yrs of companionship . I always said they are wired for 110 volts and plugged into 220. Keep training him, they learn so fast with 3-4 short sessions a day of less than 15 minutes and he would have it usually in 2-3 days.
    Only problem is protecting them from every thing, that they may attack, glad we didn't have bears and lions . I'm to old and disabled to exercise another one . He had been in 13 states and didn't care where you stay or what you eat, as long as he was with you.

      Hey Buddy, good to hear from you again. I actually got out for a fair number of trips last year. Two with the kids and a few solos which I have in the wings so stay tuned. You'll be seeing more of Toby for sure, he's a lot of fun to travel with and nothing brings him down. He handles bugs like a champ and can always make me smile when things go sideways. He also sleeps well in the hammock with me so that's a huge plus since if I'm going solo it'll be in a hammock from now on.

    I see your point of making the site look clean. How do you feel about leaving firewood and kindling for the next camper? Every camp site I leave, I leave enough kindling, split wood and logs ready for the next camper. You pointed out exactly a good reason for this.... If someone flips they will be too cold to have the motor function to cut and split wood. Seconds are crucial. I make a tittle lean-to with birch bark to keep the kindling dry. I believe this should be common practice, but you're lucky to get them to bring their garbage out. Hope I see you in the park sometime.
    peace.

      I think it's a nice surprise when you find prepared starter and/or wood. 90% of the time if I'm getting wood for myself I'll get more than I'll need. If I don't have a fire it is what it is. It really depends on my mood and situation at the time. Hope we cross trail someday as well. Enjoy the season and thanks for watching, I appreciate it.

      I hear you, I still call Toby "Maddy" at camp sometimes. Just know that Maddy is happy as a clam at home with the rest of our crew. Glad you enjoyed the video and my new star Toby, he's such a riot to travel with. I'm still getting used to the power of the Jack Russell, If only I could harness that power for good.

    Great video. Toby is a riot. Very similar to my dog who is a bit bigger but i swear she has got some terrier in her.

      MaddyTheGoose One place u really shouldnt miss is the national park Abisko up in the north. Absolutely spectacular in its own way! But I would also recommend the west coast! Great for hiking, with both Nice coast lines and lush forests. Cheers!

      Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. My father-in-law is in Vancouver and I love visiting there, beautiful place for sure. I'd just have to get used to the fact that there are grizzly bears. I'm comfortable with black bears but brown bears would take some getting used to.
