This gentleman is to be thanked for the effort of making a video. The technique has many flaws. Use a proper spanner set not an adjustable wrench as the caps can be very tight. Also, with the other hand hold the valve stem with an adjustable wrench when you remove the caps. Pipe stems can bend and even brake, something that this gentleman is ignoring.The air con unit must be placed on COOL setting not heating setting BEFORE you decommission the external unit. Run for at least 5 -10 minutes. If possible place an air heater in front of the internal unit to warm up the evaporator coil. With the hex key break the seal (as the valve will be fully back seated) of the liquid line (HP) valve (1/4" pipe). NOTE at 2:22 in this video when he closes the liquid line, the copper pipe ices up. This tells you that the liguid refrigerant in the pipe is now evaporated. You need to allow all the liquid to evaporate. Run for a few minutes. He runs it for under 2 minutes. may not be enough. You will hear the compressor noise changing as it sucks all the vapour in the compressor circuit. You need to give the liguid refrigerant time to evaporate(in the evaporator that is why the heater will help). Close the gas vapour valve (front seating it) (LP)(5/8" pipe). Ensure both valves are tightly closed. Don't overdo it. Remove the copper pipes and IMMEDIATELY place masking tape to fully cover the valves and the pipes!!! Do not use bubble wrap like this gentleman did. NOTHING must contaminate the pipes or valves. Place the caps back on. Also useful to bring a spray bottle of soapy water to spray on the valve once it is closed to check for leaks. The professionals will use a manifold to decommission the external unit. It allows you to monitor the gas flow and to understand if there is more liquid gas in the evaporator. If the unit is very old it is possible that the valves leak. when you break the seal at the beginning, place soapy water all over the valve and see if it bubbles. If it does. Place the caps back on and call an HVAC pro. Allowing air to enter the condenser when pumping down means that the gas must be removed and disposed of and new gas introduced.

Basically when you want to reinstall or install the AC, you need vacuum and gauge to clear the air inside the cooper pipe from outdoor to indoor. The reason is to ensure your gas is purely and not mixing with air trap inside the cooper pipe to maximise the cooling operation. But you still can do that.
Installation no need to turn on the compressor as pump down process. Hook up, release the gas and turn on the AC. Probably need to use gauge to check either has enough gas or not. For better results, please consults your local expert.

For reinstall you need vacuum to clear the air trap inside the cooper for better results. Procedure should be reverse from dismantle process but you need to check all the connection are good to ensure no leakage.

This process I just follow the instruction from the service manual for this model. You may refer to your AC model service manual for better view or clarifications.
A question: you tighten up the gas valve first, after the air is changed from hot to normal you again tighten up the valve, is this process can be done 1 time or it should be done in 2 steps?
To hook it up with proper way is just need another step which is vacuum the cooper pipe before release the gas. You need to have vacuum and gauge to do this process.
@Khanh Phan to install new AC I suggest to follow the actual procedure which is you need gauge and vacuum pump. This video just for special case to disconnect your AC without those equipment. Please refer to AC expert on your area.

You will lost the gas inside the pipe and indoor unit. This is not a good practice since you will release the gas to the environment. Also it will cost you during installation because need to top up the gas.
Sorry about that. I forgot the size for the Allen keys. I have a set of combinations size so I just try which one is fix. If I have the opportunity to confirm on this I will share in my next videos.

Yes. There is another joint at indoor unit need to remove. Disconnect the incoming power cable as well. After that you can lift up the indoor unit out from the bracket. Then remove the bracket at wall. That it.
I closed liquid line and after a few minutes decided to not pump down but re open liquid line. I expected the system to revert to normal operation, but the compressor cuts of after a few seconds, like there is a problem sensed. I left over 24 hrs to rebalance gas but the compressor still stops after a few seconds and cycles about every minute. What could be the problem after this closing of liquid valve temporarily for a few minutes? Why does the compressor stay on. It was fine before attempted cut short pump down.
How long you turn on the AC after re open the valve? What is the temp setting at your AC controller? You can try to set at min temp and run the AC. Usually the compressor will turn off if the indoor sensor detect the temperature tally with the controller setting. Hope this help.
@@chipchannel174 temp was set at minimum. After 24 hrs rest just in case of pressure imbalance or frosting I tried ac on for 15 minutes but always cycled on for a few seconds off about 1 min. Pumping compressor down for a few minutes maybe damaged compressor in my case??

@@Swenser Im facing 1 issue before this outdoor unit not running or intermittence due to not enough gas..need to top up the gas according to outdoor specs then the AC back to normal. You need have gauge to confirm on this.
Basically, you need gauge and release the gas into empty container in order to dismantle the outdoor unit. Do not release the gas direct to environment. This video just show the pump down process before dismantle the outdoor units that still function or working well.
Pump down process actually to pull all the gas inside the pipe and keep inside the the compressor. So, please complete the process to avoid release the gas to environment which will cause the pollution. Second things is you no need to top up the gas or just minimal when you reinstall the AC to others location and will save your money as well.

Thanks for your comment. The proper way is using the gauge or you can refer to installation guide ( pump down ) according to your AC model and brand. Some manual said the duration is 5 minutes or more referring to your lines length. You can feel the hot air blowing turn to normal temperature and you can close the valve. For my case line length also about 10ft. Anyway, Im not an expert but I’m sharing this video based on my experiences.
To pump down the gas and keep inside the compressor, you need to follow this steps with running condition. Once done then you can switch off the supply and dismantle the cooper pipe.

The reason why I’m slowly turn the hex wrench because of to ensure all the gas flow into the compressor. It’s not just about to close the valve only.

For reinstall you need vacuum to clear the air trap inside the cooper for better results. Procedure should be reverse from dismantle process but you need to check all the connection are good to ensure no leakage.

No longer used. The power cable is from the indoor units.

@@Swenser Im facing 1 issue before this outdoor unit not running or intermittence due to not enough gas..need to top up the gas according to outdoor specs then the AC back to normal. You need have gauge to confirm on this.
What if the compressor is damaged.?
Basically, you need gauge and release the gas into empty container in order to dismantle the outdoor unit. Do not release the gas direct to environment. This video just show the pump down process before dismantle the outdoor units that still function or working well.
What about if there gas still in the lines?
Pump down process actually to pull all the gas inside the pipe and keep inside the the compressor. So, please complete the process to avoid release the gas to environment which will cause the pollution. Second things is you no need to top up the gas or just minimal when you reinstall the AC to others location and will save your money as well.

Tiada masalah..tutup semua valve rapat elok. Sama seperti kita beli AC baru, dlm dia sudah ada freon dah. Untuk pemasangan semula kemungkinan hanya perlu tambah freon sedikit sahaja. Jimat wang.
Using the shifting spanner the other way around is less likely to damage the spanner.

Thanks for your comment. The proper way is using the gauge or you can refer to installation guide ( pump down ) according to your AC model and brand. Some manual said the duration is 5 minutes or more referring to your lines length. You can feel the hot air blowing turn to normal temperature and you can close the valve. For my case line length also about 10ft. Anyway, Im not an expert but I’m sharing this video based on my experiences.

To pump down the gas and keep inside the compressor, you need to follow this steps with running condition. Once done then you can switch off the supply and dismantle the cooper pipe.

Procedure should be the same. The different between this AC type just to control the power. For the duration you may refer to service manual or expert on your area. I just show the step by step process only. Hope this help.

Boleh direct sambung power cable untuk pastikan compressor berfungsi. Jangan lama sebab bila compressor jalan dlm keadaan valve tutup akan jadi tekanan tinggi.

Depend on the AC model n saiz..1hp around 10-15 minutes. You may refer to AC manual for correct timing.
