  • This is another keyboard plates comparison video. Featured board is the Mode SixtyFive with hotswap PCB, Mode Reflex linear switches and fully loaded with the stack mount configuration as I found that to be the “best” sounding and feeling build. Plates include aluminum, carbon fiber, FR4, brass, copper, POM full and half plates. Please remember that sound and feel will vary depending on what switches, stabilizers, keycaps, plates, keyboard case, and mods you use, this is just another example for plates comparison if you want to use it for reference.

    This is quite interesting. I also tried nearly all plates and combinations and feel like my results are kind of the opposite. For me the iso top mount sounds the best and makes differences between plates more significant. My favorite plates are POM and Copper and I'd say every single plate feels quite different. The CF that seems popular was nogo for me as the feel and sound as well was just terrible. I'm surprised preferences in this regard differ so wastly. Love the video btw.

    To my ears, Brass and Copper have a mid to low deep tone while Aluminum has a fuller deep tone.
    All three are thock sounding, but sometimes sound like a combination of clack and thock, a clock.
    These three have my favorite sound signature. If I had to choose one, it would be either Brass or Copper.

    To be completely fair I found the copper to sound much deeper and thockier than all the others based on your video, like night and day from the rest. I’m planning to buy a mode myself but I’m worried that the copper colour is not exactly copper but more orange. I don’t know if it’s a problem of colour saturation with al the videos and photos I see if if it’s really so orange. What would you say?

    • @haurjie
      @haurjie  2 года назад +1

      Hey thanks for the feedback. So I have a few thoughts on your comment here. A few factors to consider.
      1. Curious, what device are you listening on? Because different devices may also give you different results, which is fine by the way, nothing wrong with that. I also make that disclaimer in my test setup page before the sound test.
      2. Everyone has different ears and perception and definition of what "deep" and "thock" is. What I said at the end of this video here is mostly based off of what I hear in person (and I also try to align that with what my microphone delivers to viewers). But I gotta say, this keyboard to my ears comes nothing anywhere near "deep" or "thock". And all the plates sound quite close to each other to me, it's not a big enough difference IMO. However, I can agree that copper is the "deepest" out of the plates, but by no means does it sound deep or thocky at all in this build/keyboard (again just what I hear in person). Also, keep in mind this is only with one set of switches so results may vary depending on your build.
      3. The copper components for the SixtyFive are more orange than "copper" color (more brownish tint if that's what you mean).

    • @marcodebortoli
      @marcodebortoli 2 года назад

      @@haurjie thanks a lot for your reply and insights. To answer your question it was on my laptop and with headphones and yes absolutely, I didn’t mean that I was thockier and deeper in an absolute way but more in a relative one. Relative to the other combinations of this very same board as you presented it as you are pointing out in 2. Thanks for clarifying on the copper; that’s the only thing that is holding me back a little, I’d love to try copper for a change but I’m worried I might not like it if it’s too much on the orange side. Maybe I should go for mirror black and carbon fibre instead, or brass although that came across a little high pitched and pingy with through my device.

      @@haurjie Although not OP, I'm using the HD800s through the ifi Zen DAC and using Equalizer APO, and to me aluminium sounds the deepest, followed by FR4, followed by copper, POM full and carbon fibre are a tie, and brass is the highest. But I can't help but feel like you let a little bit too much personal bias dictate parts of your videos like @1:20 for example. It kind of feels a bit like "this is what I think is best so you have to accept it too" vibe. Still massively appreciate your content though and feel that you provide something completely unique and genuinely helpful that no one else brings to the table. Constructive criticism and feedback is always welcomed. I appreciate the compliment as well, yeah these videos do take a long time. Every person will have some sort of biased, but when I say it sounds and feels the best, that just means I think it does, after building it 10-12x. It means that's what it sounds and feels like to me in person. Nobody else has to agree with it. Even if it's a "vibe" because of the way I said it, the tone, the energy etc... it doesn't mean what I think or feel of the keyboard is what everyone should get as well. Hope this makes sense :)
