this man went out of his way to test 4 different switches on 5 different plates, he had to swap out keyboards 20 times just for this video just so people knew what plates and switches sound like
No 2 minute long intro about who he is and what this video is about. This video goes straight to content and really well organized and concise content at that. Video title describes exactly what this is about. I give this 10/10
Dude can’t agree more. I hate when youlosers spend more than half explaining their exact setup and methods for testing. Every possibke stupid answer to every troll comment they’re already expected and then very little time showing us what we want. Just commenting for the algorithm and for my appreciation on so much effort. Poly-carbonate seemed to sound the best in my opinion for almost every switch!

The comments on this video highlight just how greatly necessary it is! Not only are people's preferences vastly different, but also the way they interpret terms and describe sounds. As a newb, this really helped me set my own baselines and helped to understand why I read so much "conflicting" info on the same components. Thanks so much for the time & effort you put into this!
Not just the raw effort. The formatting was so clear and well thought out. Coming from countless frustratingly incomplete or hard-to-parse sound comparisons, this was a LIFESAVER. Thank you! PS I had 10 minutes left to make up my mind on extras for an ending GB and the clear side-by-sides at 16:47 were a godsend!
Thanks so much for the praise! I had a hard time finding a good comparison with a lot of different variations all in the same video, but couldn't so I made one myself :)
Oh wow those quick comparisons towards the end are absolutely perfect for hearing how they sound differently so I’m not trying to manually scrub a video for comparison.
I am blown away by the difference in sound between the aluminum and brass comparisons. I am really liking what the brass is doing to the switch sound. FANTASTIC video!! I know that creative endeavors like this take a lot of planning and imagination; you successfully compiled some really solid information here. Thank-you.
I am surprised how consistently bad the silk yellows sounded and how AWESOME the black inks sounded regardless of the plate. The stainless steel plate also sounded pretty amazing. I was not expecting that either. What a video, great work!
this video is just perfect. we get all the plates material, with different switches, no boring intro to skip, no useless content, just the results. and oh my the effort this guy made to swap 4 switches onto 5 different plate materials, that's 20 switch swaps.
Carbon Fiber was all around my favorite. While it retained a sturdy, deep bass, with some cushion, it negated the harsher tones while listening via my Sennheisers. Also saw glarses on your video, and that made my day even more. Props to such a quality video! Keep up the videos Austin, liked & subed.
Insanely high effort video. Most of these kinds of comparisons involve different keyboards/keycaps/surface areas etc which automatically invalidate them since even just minute changes within a keyboard's structure can significantly affect the sound. Really well made, thank you for this!
Very informative, I've been looking for a video with sound differences, I can barely notice any change between plates to be honest but I think I'm still going for Brass since I like the gold glimpses you get here and there on the board. Amazing comparison video!
Thanks! Gl with your future build! Another thing to note is the "bottom out feel" of the board when you type. It's not something that you can really hear, but the stiffer the material, the harsher the feel. So if you like a softer feel, brass might not be the best option. Just an FYI
Holy crap. This video is absolutely amazing. I can only imagine how long it must have taken to setup. No ways around it. This absolutely help me understand which sound profile I like best and I can't thank you enough. I now understand that although I don't have a definite favorite (yet) I do know 100% sure that I can't stand the aluminum plate. It emphases the sounds I like the least. It's all personal obviously, no hate to those who like aluminum plates! To each his own!
@@AustinV hard to choose but the stainless steel has such a deep thocc for that spacebar but I love the uniform sound of the carbon fiber! Those are my top two

one thing that i think some ppl rlly underestimate is that polycarb plates can make a keybord much quieter than other materials. i have a kbd67 lite with box jades and a polycarb plate but my linear boards with aluminum plates are actually louder despite my 67 lite having one of the loudest switches in existence
For the metal plates Sounds like brass has most thock followed closely by stainless and then aluminum trailing far back. Aluminum had high pitched, unpleasant sound. For more muted sound go for PC or carbon fiber with PC being the more muted of the two and carbon fiber being the thockier of the two. Aluminum sounded the worse of all plates. In order of thockiest to shittiest it goes brass, stainless, carbon Fiber, PC, .........., alum. Videos like this are great for helping people decide on keeb parts. 👍🏼
Thank you so much for this, you really went all out for this video its incredible. now i at least kind of have an answer for what plate to put in my super quiet build

@@bopbop8179 yeah CF is deep, but it sounded very hollow tho, can almost hear the case ping. I couldn't believe it when i heard it, in my mind alu should sound like that, a bit pingy and hollow, but alu is closer to polycarbonate.
