  • Using these switches for the past couple of weeks, they've probably become my favorite stock tactiles I've used. They sound nice, feel smooth, and I'm a fan of the shorter travel distance.
    I got my switches from RingerKeys: ringerkeys.com/collections/sw...

    I think this is a great "in the middle" of a clicky switch and a tactile switch. In my opinion at least, it's not the annoying part that the super clicky high pitched blue switches make, but it is definitely not subtle as a regular brown switch. That's how I see and hear it at least. And I actually think lubing the switches brought out the tactical "nature" (weird way to put it) Anyways, nice review man!

    Excellent review. I just picked these up today in the 68g spring. They feel fantastic and I dont think I will be lubing them as I only have Krytox 205 g0. This is my first tactile switch and they do feel fantastic but to be honest I did expect them to have a lower pitch with my Drop MT3 WoB keycaps. I am coming from lubed Tealios V2. However as you said, you really need lubed and filmed black inks in you want the deepest thock. My lubed Tealios sound a little deeper than these and I do have films on the way. However I do really like these Boba switches and with the MT3's it looks and sounds (sort of) like a 1970's IBM terminal keyboard.
    EDIT: Lightly lubed the rails and donut dipped the bottom spring with 205g0. Made no difference for me in terms of sound or smoothness. These are excellent switches out of the box.

      Hello. Replying to an old comment here but I was planning to get these switches along with some drop mt3's as well. Any regrets/things you would do differently after 10 months? Thanks! Also, isn't krytox 205G0 suggested for these switches or no?

    Glad to know lubing the switch is not necessary as they sound great already. Got a couple of questions, how's the spring ping and leaf crunch on these? Do you think I'll need to lube the springs? And also how would you compare the tactile bump compared to more tactile switches like Moyu Blacks/Zealios/Kiwis? Thanks for spending time looking at the comments and replying to all of them :D

    • @walkerstandard2373
      @walkerstandard2373 3 года назад +4

      Lube the springs; the bump is more rounded than zealios/kiwis

    • @AustinV
      @AustinV  3 года назад +2

      I would say lubing the springs isn't as necessary on these switches. Since they come donut dipped already, there's a strong chance you won't hear any ping from them.
      Significantly less leaf crunch/ping than lubed zealios and about the same as lubed kiwis. Haven't used moyu blacks before.
      Yeah bump is pretty strong. Bigger than all of the above I would say. It's so strong I would almost say it's snappy

    Great video but I think that an unmoded Tofu case is the worst for these sound tests, the original audio profile of the switch is barely noticeable in all the 'clank' coming from the tofu case. With low profile cases OR O-ring modded and foamed tofu case it should show a difference between the lubed and stiock version of the switch.

A lot have already told me that it's ultimately up to my preference for linear and tactile but I love the way both switches felt. Also I I current have an anne pro 2 with box whites. I honestly can't pick! Maybe I could order a sample of both but idk. Thoughts?

    • @AustinV
      @AustinV  3 года назад

      I definitely agree that it's up to your preference esp since linears and tactiles are such a different experience. If you're used to box whites you might find tactiles more your taste since linears can have more accidental presses if you're not used to them.
      However, since you have the ikki68 I'm assuming you got the hotswap version, so you could just get both switches and swap them out whenever you're in the mood

    hey how would you compare the tactility compared to maybe a panda, a kiwi and (hear me out) cherry mx brown cuz iv only ever tried mx brown as a tactile and i wana give a shot to tactiles nut im afraid i may get something too tactile since iv only used linears in my main keebs

    • @AustinV
      @AustinV  3 года назад +1

      From my personal experience, the bobas are the most tactile. The bump is large and also very sharp at the same time if that makes sense. The kiwis aren't as sharp but still have a large bump. Compared to the other 2, I think the HP actually has the smallest bump, but it's all relative.
      If you've only ever used browns, it's going to be a big shock I think. Browns have very light springs and a negligible bump. You may find your fingers getting sore pretty quick.
      If you're afraid of these switches being "too tactile" maybe try out an ergo clear or something similar like the dragonfruits or naevies

    I've run into a problem. I entered this hobby with a prebuilt keyboard with mx blues than after hearing about U4Ts, transitioned immediately to U4Ts and I can't seem to find a worthy contender. For instance, I've tried lubed GPs and it just doesn't measure up to U4T standards. It's kind of got me a a point where I don't know what switch to try but I want to get more boards lol. And I certainly don't want to have all boards with U4Ts for the sake of variety. Any worthy contenders out there?

      @@Chaosrayne Thanks, I got whole bunch of Kailh box switches including navy, but the navy are too heavy for me. I tried pale blues and they are amazing but I've come to dislike the clicky sounds at high wpm and also quite heavy. I think box whites might be the closest to my preference.
