I thought this might be punching down at first, like some kid traced GF and uploaded it. But then I saw it had a voice actor associated with a theatre, now I’m not so sure. And as bad as the animation is it’s better than what some random kid can do right?
Just an FYI, the story of this rip off is that the main character lives in Republic Tatarstan and his parents send him to the countryside because he somehow only speaks Russian and can't speak Tatar, even tho literally everyone else in this cartoon speaks excursively in Tatar, including his parents, and he's able to understand them just fine
Is common here in the US too for children of immigrants to understand their language but not be able to speak it. Is kinda fascinating how that happens (I'm Hispanic and had a lot of friends like that)
It’s important to mention that it’s not actually Russian, it’s from Tatarstan, so it’s a Tatar gravity falls rip-off I’m from different middle Asian country, but near to Tatarstan, and it’s always very disrespectful when foreigners call our countries “Russian” or “Russia” because many people there speak Russian I’m not trying to be negative, but I just wanted to clarify this stuff Edit: Tatarstan is a part of Russian federation, that is correct, but it still made specifically in Tatarstan, and refers to specifically Tatar culture, and most of the characters speak Tatar language, so it’s important
@@BottomOfTheDumpsterFire yeah, not only Tatar people, pretty much every nation who was previously in USSR is treated very poorly, I often heard racial slurs thrown toward me, just because I don’t look like a totally slavic person
This show isn't really Russian. I mean, it was originated in Russia but we shouldn't forget that Russia is a multinational country and that not only Russians live there. this show is about Tatarstan (a republic in Russia) the mc wasn't just sent to a countryside, he was sent there to learn his native language. This is actually kinda a problem in Russia. that people in cities don't speak their native language
I love the meme of someone saying that they are from El Salvador, only for his friend to say "oh your mexican." That is how I saw this comment. Very informative though, thank you.
Thanks for the helpful insight. Saberspark must have been confusing it with the russian-funded The New Norm. This has been all very confusing year for animation: While it has been a good year for investors, salarymen, shareholders, and grifting vultures, everyone else practically suffered since one of the most notable Disney TV animators is back to square one and Gooseworx is trying to combat the grifters trying to make mountains of molehills trying to start another elsagate using her (and vivziepop's) work.
@@aironi2391 yes, that is true, tho it's republic, not a country. still saying russian referring to that as a country, not a nationality, is still correct, in russian there are two words for that anyway
The letter "ә" is not from the russian alphabet, but the original name of the cartoon says that it is tatarian. So tatars are the etinc group in russian federation, they have something like their own republic called Tatarstan wich the capital city of Kazan. But you spell "вәли" correct anyway.
Today on Saber Mispronounces a Name, it's 'soos' not 'zeus'. 'Soos' is short for Jesus which is a common Hispanic name, pronounced 'hey-soos', Soos is clearly from a Hispanic background, hence his abuelita and his last name is Ramirez.
Yes! His mispronouncing irks me bc it reminds me of how he said "Luz"-- which made it obvious he hadn't watched the show but he pretended he did and reviewed it. He may have watched Gravity Falls, Zeus is close to Soos, but there's no way he could have mispronounced "Loos" as "Luhz" ig he actually watched The Owl House. Yet he pretended he did and put out that review. I've been watching Saber for years, it bothers me sm how untruthful that was and no one talks about it
@@anzuklutz Pronouncing names wrong is annoying, but doesn't mean that he's lying or hasn't actually watched the shows he reviews. Some people just don't care to learn how to say names correctly, especially names from other countries or cultures. I know people that are MASSIVE anime fans that frequently mispronounce Japanese names, even when the names are pronounced correctly in the shows the watch. Hell, even in regards to real people, there are people that I've known for years, even people that are *related* to me, that just... won't say my name correctly.
@@anzuklutz People don't talk about it because not remembering every pronunciation isn't a sign that someone hasn't seen a show. Heck, I forget character names while I'm watching stuff sometimes. None of us know his timeline on how he makes videos; for all we know, he watched it months or years ago and hasn't re-watched it recently and the name got skewed in his memory. Guy has to consume a lot of media for this channel, so it's reasonable that he occasionally misremembers details like that. I'm not trying to be rude, but that's just such a big accusation to make toward someone whose job is to watch and review things.
The worst part about this is that the show seems to be presenting Tatar culture, which could have been really cool and interesting to see since they’re an ethnic minority in Russia! It makes me wonder if this was some kind of passion project that’s unfortunately brought down by the level of plagiarism…
It not even Russian, it's Tatar, one of many national minorities of Russia, Plot about Waly speak russian and having bad grades in Tatar language, that's why parents sent him to mostly Tatar speaking village to his eby, not babushka. And creatures in the intro from tatar folklore and fairytales.
Then it's a shame, because a show with a kid getting to know folklore monsters is a great premise. They did not have to rip off Gravity Falls to make it good.
@FaultyGear9 there's a movie series called Las Leyendas that's about that premise! It's about a kid who can see ghosts and explores different Mexican legends, folktales, and ghost stories. It's all in Spanish but I'm sure you can find the movies with English subtitles somewhere
I actually heard from one russian youtuber that this was from Tatarstan (or other country, but not russia) For those interested about which youtuber im talking about, it's sndk (fully Sienduk (sounds like Chest in russian))
The fact that you didn't know proves your youth. Every show that ever actually mattered faced severe pushback or even cancellation at the hands of corporate entities wanting to hide truths and push "safety"
Tatars aren't Russians. To me this looks like a fond flattering imitation aimed at their own local audiences, perhaps as a way to hone their animation and writing skills.
Perhaps yes, the creator trying hard about how to create cartoon series, then ta da, Gravity falls was discovered thus the next step are copying its premise and animation style
Y'know, what's fascinating to me is like- somebody copying someone else's art style and chararcter designs this closely and trying to pass it off as their own wouldn't even fly among _DeviantArt communities._ As a kid, I remember ripping off somebody else's OCs was a cardinal sin. You'd get _eaten alive_ for trying to bite somebody's style like that. ...and here we have a professional studio doing it and actually putting it on TV.
I'm Russian and this thing was never on the TV. Even russian RUclipsrs make fun of it(sndk for example). Like, we know it is terrible and the only russian thing in this are subtitles with grammar errors (which is funny because it was supposed to be educational)
First of all... Thanks for nostalgia. I have remembered a 7-years old video about that masterpiss (wow, i did not suspected someone actually would find this, especially after that amount of time). Second, if we talk about country, which created this "gem", then yes - it IS Russia. But if we talk about people, who created show - it was actually tatars, not russians. Third... HOW DID YOU FOUND THAT?! JUST HOW?! WHO GAVE YOU TRAIL TO THIS?!?!😂
The difference between tatars and Russian is the location where they live. Tatars live in the Republic of Tatarstan (PART of Russia). Russians live in Russia generally.
Dude. I'm Rus and this is NOT russian ripoff. This ripoff from TOTALLY ANOTHER LANGUAGE HAS - IT'S FROM TATARSTAN REPUBLIC. It's about tatar culture, it's not like russian. Only rus there are subtitles.
Uh this is like saying Florida or California isn't part of the US. It's a state IN Russia. By definition it's Russian, you should know your own country has different languages.
No, but it would be like Quebec doing a cartoon like this about the French language. Yeah, Quebec is in Canada, but Quebec does it's own thing so it wouldn't feel Canadian.
@@viktors9385 That's a great comparison, because at first glance someone who is not familiar with the English-Latin alphabet may see French and think it's English, not being able to recognize that English doesn't have certain letters/accent marks. But that doesn't mean Quebec isn't Canadian. The Tatarstan Republic is a republic of Russia (like a province in Canada or states in the US) and it follows Russian law while having its own state laws. And heck, it's even smack dab in the middle of Russia.
Just for clarification, "Вәли" is a cartoon from Tatarstan and it IS an important detail, because the main premise for the show is Vali learning to speak tatar language(this is why he got sent off to village - his grades for tatar language were terrible), using Tatar culture and references. It is easy to notice that this boy talks exclusively in russian, while his relatives and friends(even parents) use tatar. it's a big shame the cartoon turned out just a really bad rip-off, it could've been a great show about tatar culture :/ You should've seen posts in the official group. it was genuinely hilarious how confident creators were in greatness of their cartoon 😭 a little note: yes, Tatarsan is a part of russian federation, but they are not same countries + they have different cultures, traditions, languages yet they have many things in common well because history and russian conquering another note: it is not very strange for Vali to speak only russian and understand tatar, this is just a thing in bilingual countries Also i giggled when you called vk facebook, that was funny

As many others have pointed out - this isn't a russian rip-off. It's from Tatarstan, which yes, is a part of Russian Federation, but many still consider it a separate country. As for the point of the original first episode: it was made in order to raise interest to learn tatar language in younger audiences.

It feels like the lack of research, cause it could be so much more if you only ask someone to help u with translation or just to describe the plot. This pilot episode is so much more and there is a lot of information about it in the internet and on Russian social media platforms. This cartoon is actually Tatarstan's and it depicts the problem of learning native languages of the federal subject and small nations in Russia. This info could make the video much more interesting and tell people about local culture and mythology.
you're kinda late to the party. Russian youtubers ripped this apart years ago. And this isn't a Russian rip-off exactly, it's Tatarian. Russian alphabet doesn't even have letter ə in it.
This wasn’t even made by the Russian studio LMAO, don’t mislead people 😂 This was made in Tatarstan, and it’s also very funny to me that the video appeared NOW when there is one video from a Russian guy made 5 years ago
"We had like an episode of Regular Show where musclean had an actual shotgun and was blasting off shots. You probably wouldn't see that nowadays. It'd probably be considered a little bit too uncomfortable to have a cartoon character with an actual rifle shooting it into Forest." I am uncomfortable with how unaware one could be between the distinction of a rifle and a shotgun. As the saying goes, "people fear what they do not understand."
Um, Saber... this is nationalistic ._. It's not RUSSIAN cartoon. ITS TATAR cartoon. Like, the pilot literally saying so. They even speak on Tatar. Even subtitles SAYING SO. This is basically about boy that doesn't speak or know much about his heritage and by the GF style of shenanigan's they teach about Tatar culture. Like, dude, russian subtitles doesnt mean its russian for 100%. We have like TONS of different nations there that isnt slavic by any means. And, yes, in Russian part of the internet - everyone already made fun of it, that's why this didn't really continues.
russians like to say that something is "theirs" even tho it's not even close to be it, but when they made some shitty poopie cartoon and geting attention for it, it's now not thiers lmao
This situation just adds few more layers of irony. - Tatarstan is part of Russia, but even Russians are confused. - This "show" supposed to show how unique Tatar culture is... And it's a shameless rip off at the same time.
@@Eyks001 while there certainly are plenty of anecdotes of the style of "if you're from Tatarstan why do you have a Russian passport?" from other parts of Russia, I think most people complaining here are well aware that as far as international law is concerned Tatarstan is part of Russia. Some of the complaints might be from people who consider this status quo illegitimate, but for the most part I think the source of contention is that English doesn't really differentiate "Russian" in the sense of "associated with the Russian state" and "Russian" in the sense of "associated with the Russian ethnicity/language/culture". In Russian and most of the languages spoken in Russia those are two separate concepts, and the latter is not applicable to this cartoon. This, combined with the fact that the word "Tatar" doesn't come up even once in the video, makes this video's characterization of the cartoon as "Russian" feel reductive and poorly researched at best and cultural erasure at worst.
To answer the whole "do kids watch cartoons" I mean I have a niece and nephew and they both watch tv on nick or nick jr mostly. It's mostly paw patrol, but they also watch Bluey and it seems like its a mix of cable and streaming. Honestly I was surprised when my niece said she doesn't like Spongebob and referred to the new show. Like it was my favorite growing up, but its gotten so bad that even she doesn't like it. Anyway just wanted to throw this in.
It hurts hearing so much "russian" in here. Actually, this is a pilot episode made by Tatars, and it's mostly about asking youth to stop using russian language and start using their native - tatarian. After their similarities with Gravity Falls became a topic of discussion, they promised to change the style and did release another teaser in different style right after. Obviously, this cartoon didn't come to life because... because why would russia fund anti-russian cartoon? Sad story of russian-occupied nations...
To be honest, federal Republics in Russia do legally have a right to teach and speak their own native languages. But yeah, central government can influence these things unfortunately.
Here in Russia, almost all major works can exist only with the help of the state budget, or they try to do it themselves at a pure loss for the soul, although with the first it is also a loss (not for those who do it, but for those who sponsor it).
Hmm... About 3 years ago I remember once seeing this cool fanmade trailer of what would Gravity Falls look like, if it was Russian and have a distinct Post-Soviet setting, I think it was called GRAVIPADOVO. Ever since then I've been thinking about the sheer amount of potential a Russian Gravity Falls holds, afterall there are at least 10x as many mysteries, interesting legends, ruins to explore and etc. in the post-Soviet world than anywhere else I'd say. But this is CERTAINLY not what I had in mind. [Edit] *13:45* Oh you do mention it! Epic.
Ok, this is actually something I've heard about years ago, so here's some information I'd like to share about this: It is not just a russian show, it is a show that is aimed at the youth of the Tatarstan Republic (which is a part of russia) and was *trying* to teach them the Tatar language and culture. Everyone except for the main character (who speaks russian) speaks the Tatar language, so the show has hardcoded subtitles. As for if the blond kids in the short video showcasing the upgraded "Вэли" are siblings: The boy mentions that he is "practically dating" the girl, but that "she just doesn't know it yet". So I'd say they are most likely *not* siblings
Bro, forget the gun. Y'all remember the episode of Regular Show where they said, "You pissed me off" as a main plot point in the episode? I remember me and my brothers literally dropping our forks while watching the episode and eating. It was so out of nowhere and one of my favorite cartoon network moments ever, as it felt like finding some secret episode.
Ngl...a more cynical russian version of gravity falls with kids exploring a rural town surrounded by a forest of post-soviet mysteries and stalker-esque horrors would be kinda lit
dw in the future i might use an idea similar to this lmao bc it sounds awesome i'll make it actually GOOD though... and not just... whatev is happening here XDD
Actually, this is not a Russian cartoon, but a Tatar one. Just letting you know, in Eurasia there are other nationalities besides Russians, can you imagine??? Even in other countries, what a shock, right
The thing is this cartoon wasn't even about Russia, it's about a boy who can't speak tatar and parents were so disappointed with him, they just sent him away (yes, during the school year, some role models out there) to the granny who could teach him speak tatar. You could say it's the opposite of russian representation, because the boy gets shame for knowing only russian, but not tatar (it's not even a big deal, because there are lots of people who speak russian in Tatarstan, that's completely fine).
In fact, this is not Russian ripoff, but Tatar, and it was aimed at making Vali teach Tatar language because, for some reason, he only knows Russian. This ripoff was reviewed a long time ago by the Russian blogger Sndk (Dmitry Syenduk, he was in the screenshot with tweet)
For the “Not S&P approved” thing, I like how they’re immediately like “um, please don’t do that” when there’s nothing offensive or inappropriate about the line, meaning they really don’t have any control over it (unless I’m misunderstanding what the purpose of the department is for.) It’s just an attempt to abuse their power, but without a half decent excuse like any of the others.
Saber please for God's sake do the proper research. Like, u didn't even put at least SOME effort for ur review. The cartoon is trash, sure, but u've misssed A LOT of what's actually wrong with it
@@rumptsss I have a feeling he just made this video because it's a gold mine for views. (Since gravity falls is popular again) Why do proper research and respect people's culture when you instead can make a video with "gravity falls" and "knock off" in the title? -This is sarcasm, but seriously. This was a very horrible video from Saber I don't know why he made it. This video was basically him talking non stop about gravity falls for 6 minutes and then proceed to call the show a rip off of gravity falls for 8 minutes
I was playing "spot the Gravity Falls characters" in the background of that dance scene. In addition to Soos, they also had Candy and Grenda on the left. Anyway, I'd say Adventure Time popularized the "start out as an episodic comedy than gradually reveal an epic serialized plot" format more than Gravity Falls did, but GF was definitely the show that brought it to the Disney Channel. I wouldn't call Avatar: The Last Airbender the originator though. That show was a serialized "Wu Xia" story from the start. I'd actually say Codename: Kids Next Door is the first Cartoon Network original show I can think of that went from pure silly comedy to developing a serialized plot with semi-serious moments. And, I guess Reboot did it all the way back in the 90s!
@@michaelstrong5383 BCG (and probably P&F) are good, but many people consider them to be on level of SpongeBob, TLH and TTGo, non-serialized episodes where you can't miss if you watch them randomly
Gravity Falls is great but it was also airing alongside Steven Universe, and they both were doing the “slice of life that turns into something much deeper and darker” at the same time. I’d say they had about equal influence on the cartoons that followed - Gravity Falls didn’t dominate everything (though there’s quite a bit of it in the Owl House for sure, but that’s largely because of Alex Hirsch’s involvement.)
Please note that the show is not about russia. Its a delicate problem through years of other nationalities being slowly put into the brakes of being lower or worse than russia and this is a problem and generational trauma for our languages being erased
Its actually in tatar language Its VERY different from russian, even if Tatarstan is part of russia Please do your research more, tatar people are discriminated against because of nationality, religion and language in their own country Also this ripoff was a controversy a veeeery long time ago, like 7 years ago? Everyone copies everyone. The plane for example, North Americans stubbornly believe that the Wright brothers were the first to fly, but in fact it was a Brazilian, Santos Dumont, who deserves the glory.
If you want to be that specific, than the first people to fly were Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and François Laurent d'Arlandes on November 21, 1783 in a hot air balloon. The Wright Brothers were the first to fly with an actual airplane on December 17, 1903, while Dumont's was on October 23, 1906. You can credit Dumont with flying the first airship, which is a type of blimp or zeppelin, but since those types of aircraft aren't really used today, there's a reason why Dumont is not recognized outside of Brazil.
Your commet makes 0 since, what you're basically saying is the Wright Brothers copied a Brazliain, which is literally impossible considering the time period and locations, just a way for you to act like you need all the attention, desperate

So - let's call everything by its proper name and not generalize - this PILOT plagiarism is TATAR, not RUSSIAN. Often all the humor in it is built on Tatar flavor, even though the main character is a Russian speaker. I realize it sounds strange, but that's first of all. Secondly - Back when the pilot appeared (which was +- seven years ago), it was reviewed by a well-known Russian youtuber Dima Syenduk (@sndk). Even in the review, he essentially what you said about the unconcealed meticulous visual plagiarism and the strangeness, incomprehensibility of humor, and also hilarious just over the level of animation, humor, dialogues, etc. But also - knowing that the series is Tatar, he studied a bit of Tatar mythology and PART of the humor became more understandable - but hardly funny in the whole pilot. That review influenced the “hype” of the Tatar pilot, after the review of which, the comments of the pilot itself were flooded with angry criticism about the absolute non-creativity of the authors, and even more so their PR campaign in Russian social networks - in short, they positioned their future series based on the shitty pilot as a REAL REVIVAL OF TATAR ANIMATION and BLA-BLA-BLA)).
No matter how old I get, I’ll always have a soft spot for Gravity Falls. That show got me through a lot of tough times while I was attending community college at the time. There's a big difference between copying and inspiration. Which some people(not all)seem to understand. You can be inspired by a person's art style but, when you strate up copy The Mona Lisa and add a few things to it to make it "your own", that's bad. It's a fine line to walk on, like a tight rope. The trick is to achieve that perfect balance.

tatarstan is a part of russia. it's like you say "it's not from usa, it's from texas", makes absolutely no sense

The letter "ә" is not from the russian alphabet, but the original name of the cartoon says that it is tatarian. So tatars are the etinc group in russian federation, they have something like their own republic called Tatarstan wich the capital city of Kazan. But you spell "вәли" correct anyway.
And if anything, this name has Arabic roots.
Plot about Waly speak russian and having bad grades in Tatar language, that's why parents sent him to mostly Tatar speaking village to his eby, not babushka.

Please do your research more, tatar people are discriminated against because of nationality, religion and language in their own country
Also this ripoff was a controversy a veeeery long time ago, like 7 years ago? If I remember correctly
He didn't even get one of the main characters names right You can't expect that he's going to do enough research to get something like that correct. He's not even reviewing anything He's reading the script from somebody else He's got to be
@@letsgetreal6402 probably that
The video is too superficial and empty.
I'm disappointed 😢
Adventure time, Gravity Falls, AND STEVEN UNIVERSE
SU is a part of that trio for the 2010's 😡
Seriously. Steven Universe started only shortly after Gravity Falls did, and I’d argue it had just as much influence on following shows.
Everyone copies everyone. The plane for example, North Americans stubbornly believe that the Wright brothers were the first to fly, but in fact it was a Brazilian, Santos Dumont, who deserves the glory.
usually i’m on top of these but thank you for the example cause this is one i didn’t know
If you want to be that specific, than the first people to fly were Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and François Laurent d'Arlandes on November 21, 1783 in a hot air balloon.
IT'S NOT RUSSIAN! IT'S TATAR! Please, it's not that hard to check, seriously. And yes, we on Russian RUclips also laughed at this thing about 7 years ago, so yeah
I love your dog, she’s adorable. We got our baby boy (our dog, that’s just what I call him, lol) when he was 2 months old, and now he’s 4 (we get him in my junior year of Highschool, and these years have been wonderful so far. I know you’ll enjoy those years with your little one too)
8:40 This episode was released 10 years ago yesterday by the way.
It also left a huge impact on me as an artist, influencing both my drawing and storytelling skills, and inspired some of the best fan art I’ve ever drawn and posted on Deviant Art.
I’ll always remember how funny the show was. One of the few shows that made me burst out laughing (Especially when I’d come home after a long day of college classes).
6:43 My brain will nvr stop gigglin at the line '"Not S&P Approved" has been approved by S&P'
Saying Ducktales 'copied' gravity falls and not the other way around is insane lmao
Bro, Saberspark did not just call Soos “Zeus” everytime in this video
It’s seemed like animation was coming back with shows like she ra, the owl house, amphibia, infinity train (my BELOVED)… but now. Idk if I’m just not tuned into that world but where are my shows?
Why can’t we have more awesome stuff like the great warrior wall where it was inspired by Kung fu panda and Naruto.
Saber, NO MATTER WHAT, don’t accept a sudden all expenses paid trip to the highest floor of the most luxurious hotel in Moscow.
the Gravity of this situation makes me fall
3 minutes in and I had to come here and say how happy I am that you took in a new puppy🎉🎉 she will bring you so much joy and love into your life. CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
1. You like late, like 5 years or so
2. Not Russia, only a small region that whole series is based on, its just about cryprids, myths and all that type if stuff, Gravity Falls fit really nice , so a group of small animators could make educative episode for kids.
more than a region, it's a nation and a republic.
@@Game_Hero yeah
There's a big difference between copying and inspiration. Which some people(not all)seem to understand. You can be inspired by a person's art style but, when you strate up copy The Mona Lisa and add a few things to it to make it "your own", that's bad. It's a fine line to walk on, like a tight rope. The trick is to achieve that perfect balance.
Saber, I beg of you, please do a once-over on name pronunciations. The big guy who works as a handyman for the Mystery Shack is named "SOOS". It is short for "Hay-Soos", the Hispanic pronunciation of "Jesus". His name is NOT "Zeus".
That is all. Keep up the good work. Thank you for your time.
Fun fact: Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls “wrote” a book recently called The Book of Bill. Just came out in July.
It’s exactly what you wanted out of a companion novel written by the creator of the show from the perspective of its villain.
Think this was an excuse for Saberspark to tell his love of Gravity Falls, cause I totally forgot what the video was about halfway through. Would love a deep analysis of Gravity Falls or even shows similar to it
I like to imagine that every time a youtuber does a Helix sponsorship, they get a BRAND NEW mattress so after like, 6 videos they already have a pile of them in a room. After awhile they have a room that looks like the mattress store from Spongebob.
You're a bit late to the party, everyone on Russia already destroyed and forgot about it lmao
The way he keeps calling that Soos character 'Zeus' and it's bugging me so much 😭😭😭
I didn't even know that the gumball ripoff was real. I just remember the one episode making fun of it.
Me: Can we watch Gravity Falls?
Mom: We have Gravity Falls at home.
Gravity Falls at home:
